honest feedback from a widely loved player who has loyally supported this team since launch even on the bleakest days: they won't even tell me why I'm banned. they asked me to take my bug reports to tells instead of addressing them, and when I did move solely to tells with a curious person, they banned me completely. ip, discord, paid accounts, free accounts, everything. ive played in old servers where you got REWARDED for pointing out game breaking bugs. i was pointing out TWO of those and even wanted to tell them of more i had found, but instead of rewarded im completely banned. i wasnt expecting any special treatment for finding the bugs, just what many agree would have been fair for the situation. almost as though i shouldnt have had the audacity to speak ill of their precious baby.
This was my first MMO. I still remember trying to get into screens and being bounced back because too many people were trying to get in. Thousands of people on the server and most of which weren't even bothering to level past certain milestones. We would sit in town in our guilds' hangout areas and just talk. There absolutely was PVP in this game. The guilds usually had tags like MECH or something similar in their names. The guild I was in *WoC* actually fought them quite often because of them being pkers and thieves. Being invisible or tricking people to turning their pvp on in a few ways just to summon them to certain areas to kill. I remember particularly weekends being amazing to wake up to this game but every day back then was tons of fun. The house parties and lawn decorating and giveaways were so much fun as well. Having someone setup their lawn and their whole house just to open it up for everyone lined with different pelts and hats and boots and weapons etc.
Wow! I recommended Realm Online to you a few months back, Im so glad you did a video on it! It was my very first MMO and Ive always had a soft spot for it, i always considered it a bit of a hidden gem. Thanks so much for doing videos on games like this, you the man!
@@VagrantVideos Thats a great idea they would love it. I can say for a fact this is the best and most in-depth video ever done on The Realm. As I'm sure you could tell there just isn't much information on this game available, you actually did a great thing for video game preservation by taking the time to make this,
Nice video! I've played it off and on since the early days in the late 90s. I picked it up again recently, and my favorite thing about TRO is just turning my mind off and doing the grind to level and find new loot. Pretty basic, but very chill. It'll always have that special place in my heart of nostalgia.
@@VagrantVideos If it looks interesting and you make a video, let me know. I'll help you out and I can be a source of knowledge for making it a little easier.
the Realm was my first online game. Plus my 3 boys, lol. Had lots of fun with it. And yes, still have an acct with it and play every now and then. It is playable but you have to get used to the old way of playing. Hope it keeps going!
0:18 AWWWWWW SHIT dude I can HEAR the piano! YEAAH!! Woo, I can hear it...! ... I can hear it for like 12 hours on DSL connection... I... I can hear it... [Rocks back and forth sobbing]
This was my first MMO. I remember once you hit over 500 ( I could be wrong its been years) the leveling process slowed waaaay down but if you crafted you could get easy(ish) experience. But you could only do so much like twice a day maybe? (maybe once every 12 hours honestly don't remember) But, I would wake up early before school craft to get the easy EXP then do it again later that night...Played this game for a several years off and on and then everyone was moving to WoW and went there too. This game still holds mega nostalgia for me..PvPing in the Killing Fields..grinding Holy Caves..the lawn contests...People duping like wild...lol Blast from the past....we're getting old boys!
Hey this game was so fun! Happy few years I think about it with great nostalgia. And every time I think about it I look it up and it's always still up and going somehow. I really really hope that someone that takes this type of gameplay and makes it modern in ways that would allow people to actually enjoy it in the long run. Every piece of equipment you would get F/I/V/E(/S OR /D) That means fire ice venom electricity and strength or dexterity. It was awesome. When you got attacked if you had your armor enchanted you would do a lot of damage to whoever attacked you. In the same way if you had your weapon enchanted in that way you would do a lot of extra damage. I believe it is equal to the base damage so if you were to do 50 damage normally you would also do 50 fire or 50 ice 50 venom and 50 electricity. (Unless there are resistance) Also it was pretty cool because the first item that you enchanted with something like strength or dexterity you would get a + 2. I think that the second item would also give you a+2. The third and 4th was +1 and each subsequent item after that it was + 0.5. simple and effective. The PVP was sweet also you could hide in a area behind some trees and when someone walked into the screen if they had their PVP on you could just jump them and take everything that they had. Level 1,000 players were notorious for this. You also get a bandana or a sash something like what Miss America wins that goes across your shoulder and it's a color and it represents certain level achievements. So if you got the hunter green sash what you can only get at level 1000 and then you lost a PVP you might lose it for good.
I played The Realm back in 2.0 on my old 486 dx2 with Windows 3.11 for Workgroups. When they revamped the game to version 3.0 (the basis for the current version), I was unable to play until I got a new PC with Windows 95. So many great memories. Back in the day PVP was more prevalent. My friends and I would bait people in the Killing Fields - they would be invisible in the trees and we would wait for someone to jump me or pickpocket me. Then we would mind shackle them (make them unable to flee) and take them out. So PVP *was* a thing back in the day - it just looked different compared to what we see in more modern MMOs
I really want the old 95/98 interface back. I loathe Win 11 with the stupid bubble edges everywhere & the fonts maxed & screen space minimized for boomers - who never truly embraced PC use/gaming. And good luck rooting around because nothing's organized by common sense anymore. KF & death piles... So much nostalgia for this game. Sucks to hear that the devs are corrupt & banning people for pointing out their job failures for them to fix, but instead choose to have an ego about it.
This was one of my favorite games besides the original Diablo where I loved player killing the player killer cheaters. I must have spent $150 on this game. I don't regret it either. What's really strange is besides when world of Warcraft first came out and I had no idea how to play it and very few other people who want to play it like they play nowadays the way they force you to play... I probably had the most fun in this game.
DA banned me from discord over sacastically and gritty wording on my complaints. It came from when they got the launcher and my computer didnt like it and wouldnt let me install and use it. This made me unable to play. So i dunno about the 10 people multiboxing the hell outta the game but the staff im not a fan. BUYER BEWARE as this is not near the quality it was under Realm worlds....sorry but im going to be brutal honest. The real realm...under sierra and even under codemasters was great. But this...this is a case of let it die already
this sucks. they won't even tell me why I'm banned. they asked me to take my bug reports to tells instead of addressing them, and when I did move solely to tells with a curious person, they banned me completely. ip, discord, paid accounts, free accounts, everything.
@@metadoukeni got the launcher to work on my laptop. I wont do more then log into dg a few minutes here n there. They just silenced me. But id bet ya $5 they would happily take a subscription fee from me for the MG. Shady ass crooks.
The game is pretty much only populated by a dozen "whales" who spent 14+ hours a day grinding the same zone with 6+ accounts. Add a pretty much broken client, incompetent staff that absolutely cannot handle any sort of criticism, hell anything other than telling them how great they are, and will gladly ban you from discord. Ain't that right Grady? It used to be a charming little niche MMO, but instead of RL, it went to the wrong people, and they are piledriving it into the ground while trying to milk most out of it. Damn shame.
It's one of those games that if you played as a kid, you always find yourself coming back to. I'm glad it's back and the developers are trying their hardest to make Realm great again!! 🤟🏻🧙🏻🥷🏻
Have you played The Realm Online?

Always cool to see some of these older mmos. Gives some perspective on how they have evolved.

Most people don't know this: The Realm Online was the first game to feature instances. Specifically the combat themselves are instances.
I started with The Realm, went to EQ (never played EQ2) then went straight to WoW. Loved them all.
Do Neocron next :) It was an early shooter MMO with such great promise, still being developed today!
Neocron? Never heard of it.
