    Three year old woodchip on garden. Semi broken down. Germinated all my watermelon seeds on paper towels. I am breeding a landrace mix of all the watermelon genetics and selecting the strongest. Planted germinated seeds under the woodchips. A week later they started pushing through. One day I’ll switch to direct seeding them so genetically only those that germinate and sprout under woodchips will pass on their genes to the next seeds.

      HEY PD!!! That's awesome. Do you add more woodchips every season? I said I was going to do the paper towel method, but I have not done it yet. I must think I will mess it up. I'm going to do a trial run, especially on peppers. I'm going to try a few spots for direct sowing.

      @@GrowSomethingTastyI have not added new wood chips yet, it's starting to look like in will need to next year or year after. I direct sow a few things just to test as well. This years big test was trying towel to ground a variety of seed sizes to test them and less grow trays under lights for everything for lengthy time to start everything. Big things like squash seeds and watermelon seeds worked well. Okra worked alright but I had old seed and a few didn't pop up out of wood chips yet.i direct seeded radish and they did good. Tomatoes are towel to cups to grow out big for transplant I did two or maybe three towel to wood chips and have one growing well the others no sign. Beans are soak and direct seed before germination sign, still waiting on them. Towel to ground melons did alright. Cucumbers direct and waiting to see sign. Kale was direct and waiting. Did some marigolds direct and waiting. I plant more with towel to ground because plants are small and no plants in garden means wood lice or other seedlings munchers are hungry.

    Hey Bear! I'm growing a lot of things this spring/summer, but watermelons are the main thing I'm looking forward to growing. I didn't get a great harvest last year, but I've changed some things up and have been watching your watermelon videos, so I'm ready to grow this year!!😊 I started my seeds indoors about a week ago and so they're just beginning to develop their true leaves. I went a little overboard and I have a million different varieties of different types of melons. For watermelon, I have jubilee, sugar baby, yellow doll, lemon drop, Leelanau sweetglow, Charleston gray, dessert king, orange tendersweet, orangeglo (as I'm typing this, I realize I have lost my mine planting all these) 😂😂😂) ...and..😂😂 Crimson sweet, moon and stars, and sangria,. 🤣🤣🤣 Now for the cantaloupe and other types of melons. 😂😂😂 I have canary melon, kajari melon, sugar cube, and crenshCrenshaw. That's all!! 🤣🤣🤣 I don't know where I'm going to plant all of these, but I'm going to have fun trying to figure it out.🤣🤣 I'm going to have to sneak some plants in my neighbors back yard.😂😂

      HEY ChristineBackyardGarden!!!! Wow Wow and WOW!!! That is an impressive list. You are going to have fun placing all those. I started out with Jubilee. They are so good. I want to grow them again but don't know where to put them. I might have to try something.

    i have started my sugar baby watermelon for the first time this year. my son inspired me to do it and i am so nervouse because its been a week and nothing has popped up yet

    • @GrowSomethingTasty
      @GrowSomethingTasty  5 місяців тому

      HEY,InuquSevonne, that is so great your son inspired you to do it. I get nervous, too. If you are sowing indoors, you can use a heat mat, but I'm sure they will come up. If it's still cool outside and you sowed them outside, it may take a while. Keep me posted, it they don't come up than replant some.
