  • How to program and set up your new radio including changing the channels and using the GMRS abilities of the unit. These are 5 watt radios and much better than the traditional handheld walkie talkie like Motorola Talkabout and other similar radios. Volume is much better, you won't be consuming batteries, and you'll have a heck of a lot more range to be heard at least and hear because of the external mounted antenna.

Nice video. Thnx. Always kinda wondered about that model. I havent really been into the "bubble pack"/"dual service" type radios in a while. In fact my GMRS license has lapsed. But being a ham and general nerd at heart, I still hold a lot of interest in all things electronic and comms. So again, thank you. I always thought those were cool and even thought about buying a couple just to play with. But personally, I just prefer to use commercial equipment. My GMRS mobile rig is a Vertex VX3000U. I like the flexibility of using radios that can be manually programmed, being able to remove mic and antenna(just like my other radios) and of course being able to use the whole 50 watts Im allowed. But those Midland are definitely pretty cool. Back in the day when I first started messing around in communications, and started with FRS/GMRS, there really wasnt any options for a mobile rig yet and of course I hadnt learned yet about part 90 gear at that point. Im glad theres finally mobile options for those that are still into the "bubble pack" platform.
    Cheers!

You'll only as far as line of site with Obstruction. The range varies depending where you and your party is. You may get up to maybe two to three mike in urban area and 5 miles suburban ares, but that's stretching it. If this radio could operate on repeaters, you'll could easy extend that range beyond 25 miles, depending the location of the repeater.

I had hoped this would help with the MXT115. Unfortunately, the menus are different. I was trying to select the channels to scan.
