    I found the RML-390F to be the best in terms of needs and space. Hits that perfect spot of being a little bigger, but not too big (wink wink). I went with the Titan version and while it's fine now and I have no need to change, if I end up buying again, I'll spend a little extra for the Rogue.

      @@brandonj1468it may be more stable in the sense it’s less likely to tip, however it can still be a very shaky rack, especially when doing things like pull ups. Most flat footed racks are 4 posts, so no plate storage to help hold it down. You could go 6 post on a normal footed rack and add stability and further that with plate storage as well.

    I had a Rogue 100" RML-690 (so, technically an RML-6100) for a few years. I downsized to a plain Jane R-3 + a plate tree two years ago. I'm happy with the smaller footprint, but if I was thinking outside of the box I would have kept the six post rack and moved the plate storage out to the sides (rather than straight back). It would be similar to the Sorinex Apex or something like that. It would have accomplished the same thing, and kept me from juggling gear.
    What I loathe about Rogue Monster and Monster Lite racks are the 49" widths. The R-3 fixes that without the need for sandwich j-cups. No regrets overall.

    I got the R3 about 2 years ago and it has been a solid rack for my 2 car garage. Like the video noted it is the best rack for most people. However after having it for 2 years I wish I had gotten the RML-3. It is the exact same thing as the R3 except is comes in a 3x3 tube configuration. Having a 3x3 RML series rack at least give you more options to add different accessories given that it looks like Rogue and the industry is moving away from the 2x3. When I browse Facebook marketplace there are more people selling RML adaptable accessories than Infinity adaptable accessories. Also having a 3x3 rack would make the rack look more "beefy". And as of this post the RML-3 is $80 more than the R-3. The small price difference is worth it!
    Great post because my rack is solid and I believe it is the minimum that most people need for their garage gyms but maybe the video should be amended to say the RML-3.

    I'm used to squatting in a gym that most likely has 40" depth, vs the 24" or 30" you're reviewing here for this rack. Do you think it's a big adjustment to go from 40" to say 24" or is it just something that'll be easy to get used to? I can't consider anything more than 24" due to the limited space we have at home. Accessories are one thing, but also even if you never hit/exceed the max capacity, you get a lot closer to "maxing" out the rack. LEt's say you squat 500lbs, that puts you at 83% capacity vs a 1500lbs rated rack at 33%. This means if you get stronger you risk some serious injury, but also can easily outgrow the rack.

    We do not have access to "Monster" brand products in AU. I think our equivalent is the RML-390BT which comes in 24" and 30" depth, just not sure if that is the inner squat depth or if that includes 6" for the posts. How realistic is it to use this for plate storage? I can imagine a loaded barbell would interfere with the weights, so if you want all in one you'd want a deeper model or by separate for storage. Having never squatted in a rack, it feels like even 30" will feel small. I also wonder how easy it would be getting a 2.2 meter barbell into such a narrow cage, thinking the half rack (mounted to a wall or floor) with spotter arms would be the better option for small spaces.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  3 роки тому

      @@BasementBrandon It all depends on your space I suppose. I have a meager 3.5 x 3.6m (11.48' x 11.81') to setup a home gym and need to consider the space around the rack and where I'm facing when trying to squat. I'm thinking that I'll be squatting outside of the rack/cage and will rely on the spotter arms. I'm also expecting that maneuvering a barbell into the cage would also get tricky in a small space; you definitely want to walk it in to avoid injury. We do get most of the Monster Lite stuff, just not the big brother line. Thanks.

      @@BasementBrandon you're spot on with all of this. Personally, I love the light commercial rack I got from them. Only cost me 700-750 CAD shipped I believe, so I could focus on getting a high quality barbell from Rogue. I don't mind the size or am too picky about anything, I expect the rack to get beat up and scratched. There are some flaws to it though, such as what you mentioned and also problems with roller cup stability, and the rack coming in with scuffs. Also, there were no tools that came within the boxes to screw everything in which was also a bit frustrating.

    I know nubies today believe they need top notch equipment from the start, you don't. And no it's not an investment, most people quit. A typical fitness center only has 10-20% of their members actually show up (been a trainer for 17 years). Small percentage of of those lift any real weight. Rogue equipment is not necessary for anyone training less than 5 years or so. Get any bench and pillars and see if you stick with it.

      The welded R 3 might be a serious problem. I had this concern to. Depends on your platform choices. You need a single piece from side to side... but this isn’t a big deal if you can bolt the cross beams to different heights or add blocks. I have a 1.5” height platform underneath the welded R3 and I would hit the cross beams with an extreme sumo position. If you have a deadlift bar, this will help A LOT as you are pretty close to the cross beams.

      Valentin The rack is $230 because it has no availability for attachments and is wobbly 1’ by 1’ hardware. You are probably correct that a cheap rack like that would be best for most looking to just workout. This however is a powerlifting specific channel and the difference between a flimsy $230 rack and an overbuilt $800-1200 rack is night and day for a powerlifter. Options like rack customization, adding attachments, using bands or reverse bands are not available on a $230 rack. Also I’m not sure where you’re coming from trying to say that Rogue is more expensive than REP. REP also offers 3’ by 3’ steel racks for essentially the same price as Rogue. If any business is the most expensive it would be EliteFTS. Also Shipping from REP is very expensive. I live in NY and the shipping on a Rack and accessories from REP was over $200 more expensive than shipping from Rogue for me. All in all I’d agree with Brandon that Rogue for the most part is the best bang for your buck.
