    Melting wax over direct heat is probably asking for trouble. Possibly a more safe way would be to heat water and melt wax over the heated water. That way the wax never gets hotter than 212° F.

    I have to say I found your channel due to Survival Lilly. The amount of tips you show on use of wax is truly classic, especially the Sheet Liner. Your climate is much harsher than mine, but we have spring and fall seasons that can be very damp (with mild snowfalls), so I plan to reproduce a sheet for lining in survival situations. One question: Obviously the sheet will become much stiffer, so in your experience, would you say it is better to gently fold it or roll it for carrying into a camping situation?
    Subscribed and please continue producing quality videos!
    Thanks!

    I already knew about wax anti-rust and hydrophobic properties but that stuff with the birdshot was new and awesome.
    ps: You can also use it on your hair instead of gel. Makes your hair waterproof in the rain although a bit flammable.

    Wax slugs were very popular among hunters in Northern Italy. This trick faded away with the success of semi auto shotguns.
    Another popular trick was the "chain": small fishing leads linked by steel wire.

    • @PostapocalypticGarage
      @PostapocalypticGarage  7 років тому +1

      +mariorossiexcite -you're right...many believe that it is an American invention. But Italy was the Mekka of shotgun hunting for decades. Also the cutshells were invented there. And the finest shotguns in my opinion are from Italian based companies like benelli, fausti, bettinsoli, and many more...

    When waterproofing your boots it's really important to pre-heat the leather to open up the pores. Next time try using a hair dryer on high heat (heat gun works best) to warm different areas of the boot - then immediately paint on the wax. You'll be amazed how much it will absorb. Keep doing this all over the boots (paying extra attention to stitching) until the wax pools on the top and doesn't soak in. Then let them dry/cool and buff! Everything will be evenly coated and they will stay waterproof much longer!

    On the subject of the waterproof matches, wrap the stick with toilet paper before you dip it in the wax; Or put a couple of matches together then wrap them with toilet paper and the flames are generally longer. My experience with them is that they normally burn for about 2 to 3 minutes before they are gone.

    A great survival food/energy, antiseptic is honey from bee hives with plenty of wax from the hives. Another use is to seal wounds/cuts with wax...wax soaked strips. Doesn't hold water & therefore is better for a bandage.

    Smearing wax on sides of bowsaw blade will help stop it from sticking in very dry wood when cutting (at least in very dry climes ,don't know about cold and snowy but think it should work) A wax crayon or birthday candle does the job well and is easy to carry in pocket.(and you can use it to rub on a sticking zipper)

  • @MDPrepper
    @MDPrepper 7 років тому

    Two questions: Why go to the trouble of making the wax "slug"?? Are slugs illegal or hard to find in Austria?? Also, why can't you find/purchase better matches?? Sure, it's simple enough to make your own, but it's easier to just purchase them (at least that the case here in the US). Side Note: As I learned from a European commentor on a video of mine, we don't really have "funeral candles" like those in Europe. Our "prayer candles" come in tall glass containers (the container has some uses but those plastic candle containers look much easier for salvaging the wax)

    • @PostapocalypticGarage
      @PostapocalypticGarage  7 років тому

      +MDPrepper -here in Austria slug rounds are really expensive ant not easy to find in small gunstores because very few people using them. Strike anywhere matches are prohibited by law.

    • @MDPrepper
      @MDPrepper 7 років тому

      That's bizarre (regarding both the slugs and the matches). I can't imagine a logical reason to prohibit a specific type of match.

    • @PostapocalypticGarage
      @PostapocalypticGarage  7 років тому +1

      +MDPrepper -it's the same law as applied to the cheap lighters (BIC) wich have to have some kind of children safety on...stupid, I know :/

    Don't feel bad about strike any where matches. We have them in the USA but they are crap now days and not dependable like we use to have. The Government limited the amount of red phosphorus that can me on the strikers also on the regular matches.
    A company bought out the other strike anywhere matches, usually one strike ant the tip is gone. The match stike is so then now they will snap real easy.
    We use to be able to raise a leg up and strike them on the taunt Levis or denim, or anything else. No more !
