For animal plague, there is a workaround.
Make a separate pasture, transfer half of the infected animals. And start killing them until the bat icon is gone.
Another for the farm, you dont need to have your field/farm fully in the compost bonus to have bonus yield.
Just touching one pixel of the bonus will earn your farm the bonus yield on the entire farm.
By doing so, you can have a 15x15 field and have 6~8 worker to work on that field to get around 4k to 6k yield with fertilizer.
You can have 6 15x15 farm, and 2 7x15 farm surrounding a single compost, to maximize the space without building too much compost, saving workers.
Do that until you get dense farms, which is a better farm to have a permanent 50% yield bonus without fertilizer.

cool tips. you can reroll the merchant ship by save before it arrive :D. then just load the game if you dint get the things you want. sometimes blueprints hard to get.

After the food is stable, I recommend you to go all in with veg processing. The processing food give more hunger, that's mean they eat less too. I think there're a text book that +hunger for simple food that can used in school. It's super helpful!
