    I’m using your Goblin Prison scenario as the basis for my new group’s first episodes. I’m making a few changes, of course, NPCs I’ve inserted of my own invention, etc. but the concept of this is solid. Using the one page dungeon/adventure concept is still a great to go for me too. No sense in all the extra fluff not needed

      The neat thing is that the same idea can apply to player character "power." That is, game-world influence as a supplement to leveling.

    I expect there is a player frustration factor in encountering a villain that they know is weaker than they are that they still can't defeat; it probably makes them resent that villain even more,and thus makes the villain's return that much more emotionally wrought. Great ideas!

    This was amazing. Goblins are my favorite thing to use in my campaigns, there is just so much flexibility with them, they can be anything from a nucense to a biblical plague. • @DUNGEONCRAFT1
      @DUNGEONCRAFT1  4 роки тому +3

      I think I did. I might have subconsciously stole, it from Zak Smith, who loves goblins and blogs extensively about them. But I think the "Great Grub" being a potential messiah is mine. Many religions have a messiah story. I figure goblins would be much the same. You may, of course, steal it from me. D&D stole goblins from Tolkein who stole them from them from some culture or other.

How do you deal with his next character being introduced to the party and how quickly do you try and manage that? Are they starting over barebones level zero even if they rest of the party has leveled? What about a TPK? Are you reintroducing the players new characters into the old story or is it a wash? I love the concept of starting a campaign with 0 level characters and having them earn their stripes- so to speak. My question is how agreeable to this are your players? I am not sure they would go through this type of adventure without some bellyaching.

    • @DUNGEONCRAFT1

      My players are terrific. They are not interested in gold, experience points, or gaining levels. Their "high level" characters are 5th-6th level and they started playing some of them in 1994! So they're used to it. One thing you don't see---one DungeonCraft episode covers about a half-session in real life. So they made it to 1st level at the end of session 2.

    This is by far one of the richest dungeons I've seen in a while. Some questions: One, can I steel this lol? Two, where did you get those human minis?, three, are the corpse minis you have there your own creation? or did you get them from somewhere? if so where? if you did make them, what was your process? Four; When presenting each room, was it just the singular room with the halls? I recall a vid you did about presenting a room on a lazy susan, did you do the same here? Five; I like that the goblins don't use regular currency. When they raid caravans, do they leave gold coins behind or do they take them to melt them down or do something else with them? Great vid. Love the story behind it, love the little details like the goblins not using gold coins for currency. Very cool :) ((I know that was technically more than 5 questions but some sorta fit specific topics I was looking into. ))

    Love the channel and your campaign photos. Just recently came back to D&D after more than 30 years. Where do you get your NPC tavern and village minis from? Really helps with setting the scenes. So much insightful playing. Thanks!

    Well late here, but I am curious about an aspect of this: does the multi-character "funneling" approach lead to it's own sort of metagaming insofar as the players know that some/all-but-one of their characters are expendable? For example, perhaps player "C" simply doesn't care about character C2 and so RPs that character in a melodramatic throw-away sense. For example, were the party laughing at the dismemberment or actually discommoded? I don't intend the question to be a right/wrong or better/worse or good/bad concern or criticism: maybe another way to put it would be whether you notice the the players play differently once the funneling is complete and they are running "their" single character? I've never tried or participated in this style so I am curious. Thanks for a great channel and content.

    Curious. What do the goblins use the boogers or toenails for? Why is it their currency?

    • @NefariousKoel
      @NefariousKoel 2 роки тому +1

      He mentioned that they have no use for human coinage since they can't spend them. Obviously an extra added flavor for goblins. I guess they value boogers & nails in their own society, kinda like "Teef" for Orcs in Warhammer's setting. Going this route, I'd probably change the goblin barter currency to humanoid ears and fingers since the goblins eat humanoids. Those fingers and ears could be considered special delicacies that the goblins tend to horde and use to barter with each other. Plus the added mental picture of those goblins walking around with severed humanoid fingers and ears on their leather necklaces or waistbands.

    How do you handle character deaths at level 0? The PCs are so weak--when a PC dies, do you have the party return to town (or wherever) to recruit a replacement, do you allow the player whose character has just died to just insert one of the extra characters s/he has already created right into the action as it's being played, or something else? Trying to figure out how to handle this and still maintain that suspended disbelief.

      @@DUNGEONCRAFT1 Ok, that makes sense.
      So goblins are just extremely unruly children who need a stern parental figure to set them straight? (I am mostly kidding, though that could be an interesting villain motivation.)

  • @mattm4557
    @mattm4557 5 років тому +4

    You might be doing it to be funny but I've noticed in a couple videos now you reference things like "get woke" or "check your privilege". PC culture/word policing and virtue signaling are serious problems in society, especially in academia. I'm a big fan of yours and love your content, I hope you're more of a critical thinker than to believe in such non-sense. Besides, people enjoy tabletop games (as with all entertainment) because it allows a bit of escapism, I personally never want to have identity politics and SJW propaganda interjected into my game. It doesn't mesh with fantasy.
