Assuming they are Basic Scope rods (not Black Ops), - around £180 each, so £540 there. I'm guessing the bite alarms at least £500 the set. So with line he's sitting next to nearly £4k worth of gear!!!! What happened to this being an Everyman type of fishing? It would be cheaper to buy Sage or Orvis fly fishing gear and pay for lessons!
If they cast longer, have tighter tolerance for spool wobble (making the connection to the lead solid) and aren’t so heavy to induce fatigue… they will; and all those three things this reel excels at.
Firstly £765 is RRP but prices are around £519 ! The reels are around 520 grams, lighter than most reels. They are all-rounders and come with spare spools. Considering the terrible service offered by Shimano and the excellent service offered by Daiwa this is a major plus point. I have fished all over Europe and these reels have never let me down, unlike the equivalent Shimanos. You mostly get what you pay for and these reels are almost bullet proof. Only negative factor IMHO is that they are on the large size but the weight means this doesnt really matter. I have used them on Daiwa Infinity 3.5 and now on Scope Black Ops 3.5 and they are very good value and will last for years.
I'll just add a few details more, as the Basia range is quite confusing .....He has the Daiwa Basia 45 SLD QD 2017 model. Not the 19 20 models as he said. And it's 485g and retails for more than the 20 scw-qd with the black handle. If you compare them side by side, you can see where they cut costs on the newer models.... with the exception of the red and black Daiwa 20 Tournament Basia 45 SCW QD, which is of the same build quality as what he has above.
Ive just baught a set of 3 Okuma 8k reels for £150 and are seriously good. Ive had every top end reel apart from basias and these 8ks are really impressive. Them diawas look like okumas imo
If people say they can justify paying that amount fair play, personally I think its a joke, I've got 20 year old budget reels that still do the same job and the fish never seem to care 🎣🎣🎣🎣
I have these and yes I too have yearned for a folding handle at times, but folding handles tend to introduce rattle and are therefore less efficient at cranking. I do much prefer the mechanism in these to the old unscrewing of a cap on the opposite side though.
Anyone who pays more than £100-£150 for a fishing reel needs to give their head a wobble 🤣🤣. I’ve just bought a set of shimano big blue M’s….second hand, 25 years old and totally beaten up. But I love them 😍
They’re worth £765 to some people. Someone who’s got £2,000+ spare to spend on a set of three and they want top notch reels then they are worth it. For someone looking for a decent reel at a reasonable price they are not worth paying for. Simple as that.
I've just got a set of Basia Tournament 45 scw qd which I've yet to us but very soon, I did however have to phone Daiwa to find out that the bale alarm is manual close just in case anyone was wondering why they don't close on reeling 👍👍👍👍👍👍🤣🤣
Are they good? Of course. Are they going to be appreciably better than any other high end reel? Not really. Are they worth £700? As a tool? No. As a status symbol? Up to you.
@@Pauljay65 No, but I do have enough engineering experience to understand that there is nothing on these that is practically better than any other well built reel.
I know i service and repair reels for a living, but you must be mad not servicing them. Especially if they are heavily used. Carl and Alex prove you only need £70 Daiwas to land 50 plus lb carp and it also proves Daiwa make a cracking reel at lower prices, let alone the top end stuff. Worth over £700??? Nope, thats just stupidity and proof your filling Daiwa’s bank account for no extra advancement in catching a fish.
I remember the good old days of carp fishing it was about stealth and outwitting a fish which is quite simply more intelligent than a bunch of arrogant naked apes with big wallets, sadly marketing has destroyed this venture and turned it into tackle and bait parade saying you can't catch carp unless you remortgage your house on tackle and bait, yet they don't catch any quicker than the guy with a bamboo rod and a piece of bread. The only fishing going is wallet catching
Dick Walker caught the British record on a reel that probably made the Mitchell 300's look good that I started with. Modern Carp fishing is now bloated slobby mess. But it can still be enjoyable off the beaten trsck.
Now look here carp are very intelligent they know the difference between an expensive Basia reel and a cheap reel, why only yesterday I was fishing a two-rod set up with a top of the range reel from Dragon Carp (R.I.P.) on one rod and a Basia SLD on the other and this mirror carp swam into my swim and took one look at the Dragon Carp reel and said you gotta be joking and took the boilie attached to the Basia reel instead. Of course, if it had been a Common carp, it couldn't care less which one it got caught on!!!
I drive a Peugeot 208, if I could afford an Aston Martin Vanquish I'd probably buy one. Same here, but will these reels catch someone more fish than my Okuma's? Probably not, but watercraft and local knowledge will. It's probably a good thing that Carp waters these days are locked and fenced in when when you could have around 4 grands worth of gear sitting in front of your bivvy.

Rods. And reels at these prices is just all about flexing and attention seeking there are many many reels and rods that stand test of time that cost 5 times less than that I've got reels that are 50 pund each and had them over ten years and same with rods it doesn't make you any better of a fisherman or catch u more fish it's just about money
Not to be funny but I had the same reels and to be honest I changed to high end shimano and I have to say there nothing to shimano reels shimano are brilliant shimano no how to get things right with reels with basias when I put like o.35 thikness of line the did not hold much line at all
The line is the best past about Daiwa reels…. Don’t need to buy many bulk spools…. And daiwa is the best customer service…. Unlike shimano…. Had both and basis just looks the best
I was a fan until I had them after that all the stories fall into the water.First of all they come without a protective bag, reel from 700+??,that's litl bid funny. After that spool capacity, after that material very easly damaged.First month i thought WOW on small waters but if im going to fishing on long distance 250m+ then i can do nothing. After three months every day using them, they begin to make some strange noise whereupon I called the service-center and they told me how to lubricate them with silicone spray, after that i have sold them 🤣🤣 and buyed Aerotechnium MGS. Those reels are from another planet for Basia. Basia it's not worth it 400€ not 700€.
What a complete waste of money, most people who buy them, is just to brag about them, if you want to spend that much on reels, then at least buy the best, Shimano top of the range reel, is way superior, to that piece of junk,
£2295 worth of reels plus the rods sat on a £300 rod pod, somewhere along the line carp fishing took a wrong turn.
Not even that you can buy a complete tent for 120to 150 but a decent set of hangers cost more
Assuming they are Basic Scope rods (not Black Ops), - around £180 each, so £540 there.
I'm guessing the bite alarms at least £500 the set.

Alot of kit is designed to catch the anglers [tackle tarts].
My rods where £45 😂
I always fish two rods, total cost of the rods and reels on my pod is 200 quid.
Maybe to some people they are worth the money but they won't make you catch any more fish that's a fact
If they cast longer, have tighter tolerance for spool wobble (making the connection to the lead solid) and aren’t so heavy to induce fatigue… they will; and all those three things this reel excels at.
I have a set of basia customs saved up for them Ive worked hard to pay for them so why not treat myself I go fishing for me no one else
Lovely reels , worth the money .
But I wouldn’t swap my shimano aero gt bait runners for them old school

3 years ! I wouldn’t expect them to be ageing , I’ve had my emblems 24 years and still mustard , 24 years !
Ive just baught a set of 3 Okuma 8k reels for £150 and are seriously good. Ive had every top end reel apart from basias and these 8ks are really impressive. Them diawas look like okumas imo
okuma 8k is all you need really
Okuma🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
8k´s are basically Tanks.
With the same up and downsides as a tank
Okuma reels are almost bulletproof. Plus the really do preform well
If people say they can justify paying that amount fair play, personally I think its a joke, I've got 20 year old budget reels that still do the same job and the fish never seem to care 🎣🎣🎣🎣
Love the look of the newer DAIWA - 20 TOURNAMENT BASIA 45 SCW QD 😘👌👍

Rather have shimano techs for the money

If you can afford them and they last .For the price they should be very high quality.

They're obviously really nice high end reels, but are they 3 times better than the Gold Emblems (which do have folding handles!)
