  • To all the foodies out there, this is one of the best tasting fruits you can grow in many areas of the country with EASE. And the only way to taste them is to grow them yourself! My bush is currently producing and I spend roughly 15 minutes of my day chowing down on these things. Once you try one, you can't stop.

    I planted two bushes in my backyard a few years ago based on your recommendation and this is the first year they produced any fruit and I’m loving them. I even like the seeds. Thanks for the good advice!

    After 2 years in the ground, my tillamooks are loaded. Can’t wait to try goumi for the first time!

    I first heard of these from Stefan Sobkowiak and found some seeds that germinated. Then my puppies found them and wrecked the seed tray. Next time I’ll buy a bush and plant it in my food forest. I’m anxious to try some. Thanks for reminding me about them.

    I am in love with these Goumi berries also! Unfortunately for me I have killed two Tillamook before I found out for some reason they have difficulty in most of my yard. I do have a Sweet Scarlet doing really well and I moved a Red Gem last fall just in time to save it I believe.
    Eventually I will give Carmine or a Tillamook another try. I too stand by the bush eating dozens of the berries marveling the whole time at how much I love the complex flavors each berry has 😋

    Wow, Ross IRIE and "Clickbaity" the pic of the Goumi berries! Clicked on your COOL video the moment I saw the brilliant, shiny Goumi berries, but before reading the title I thought is this a variety of cranberry? Can't be Goji berry because the spelling is different, yeah that Goumi plant is loaded, lucky you good buddy, basically just standing/sitting there eating Goumi berries to your heart's content! And since you have an abundance, your idea of dehydrating some to have natural gummy bears during winter is AWESOME! Thanks for sharing Ross, 👍and greetings👋from central Mexico!🍒

    Find flavor to be similar to Autumn Olive but 4 times the size. On the tart side but delicious to my taste. I have a Sweet Scarlet and Red Gem.

      Justin, can you share where you located the Carmine variety? I’ve been looking online and have had little success. I’m on the hunt as well and I won’t quit until I have it in hand! Thanks!

    I have a couple of these in containers. I've been contemplating giving them away. I found the taste to be slightly medicinal. Not bad, just not great compared to my other berries. Maybe I'll reassess, or give them to my dad so I can still snack on them when I visit him.

    I really don't think "goumi" has anything at all to do with gummy bear candy, which was only invented in 1981, while goumi fruit has been around for hundreds of years.

      Amazing, but true. Some things were actually not invented in the U.S. See Gummibär.

    How sweet are the berries? Is it as sweet as cherries? 1 to 10 in the sweetness ranking, how high would you rate it? I give cherry a 6.5 in sweetness ranking, how high does the Goumi rank in comparison?

      It's well balanced. Probably a 7.

    I think I've found these growing wild in my yard. They have a steam growing out of the back of them. Is that normal and acceptable?

    I have two goumi (one is a Sweet Scarlet) and both fruited for the first time this year. I was so excited, but the fruits were so astringent no matter how long I left them to ripen. Could it be too hot where I am in 8b?

    • @RossRaddi
      @RossRaddi  2 роки тому +1

      Unlikely. Just give them more time.

    Hey Boss, when you dehydrate your goumi berries, do you remove the seed first or just dry them whole?

    I would love to grow goumi down here in Pensacola. But it is almost impossible to find a nursery anywhere that has the plant and will ship here without charging more $$$ for shipping than the plant costs.

    • @RossRaddi
      @RossRaddi  2 роки тому +2

      Shipping is very expensive now with all this inflation. Each package I ship went up $4-6 alone in postage.

      Mine are in the blooming stage right now. It is Christmas. I will be picking them before winter is over. I live in middle Georgia, USA. They seem to grow wild here.

    What is the full latin name of this variant? Apparently it's not Elaeagnus multiflora, since those have way smaller red berries..

    • @RossRaddi

      That's the species name. The variety name is Carmine.

    May I know what state you are growing them in and will they grow in North central Texas like in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Also where can i buy these trees / plants and how long they take to start yielding. Any Health benefits?

      I'm in the Philadelphia area. I don't know how many chill hours these need and how much you get, but it's well worth a try. Whitman farms, one green world, burnt ridge. Try any of those.

    How do you like to propagate them? Do you put them in water or do you place them directly in soil? I have a sweet Scarlet.
