      Hello, I have a zgrill 1000 series. Which diffuser did you buy? Standard or Pit Boss? Is the 3" risers needed?

    • @polie67
      @polie67 7 місяців тому +1

      @littlejigga I don't have the heat riser, in fact they didn't offer it when I purchased mine. It runs great! The only thing I have had to do is get a new heavy duty stainless heat shield, the long one that runs the entire length. Mine eventually burned up, but thats a zgrill part. I found a replacement on Amazon.

    Tom nice video. I have a small rectec 340 so the product you are reviewing will not fit. I did add the smoke daddy cold smoke and use it along with the grill smoke setting of 180. Using wood chips I get a lot of smoke in my food. Now wether it is good smoke I’m not sure. You can get the smoke daddy to burn very clean by adding wood slowly. Or load it and get lots of very white smoke. There is a learning curve but feel it is a nice alternative to those that do not want to upgrade to a woodwind pro. O

  • @trito408
    @trito408 2 роки тому +6

    I have the Pellet Pro 1st Gen and the Heavy D. My 2 issues with it is the temp spike when the wood starts burning and you can only add wood at the beginning of the cook. The Woodwind Pro allows you to keep adding wood throughout the cook and they said it can keep the set temps even with burning wood in the smoke box. My experience so far is the Heavy D does add significantly more smoke than burning only Pellets but it is no where near a stick burner. I am hoping a 980 will get me closer.

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
      @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for Watching Trey! Appreciate the feedback! In this video there was no temp spike because the PID adjusted, you are correct that you can only add wood once during the cook. What we all forget is that this is a great way to add additional smoke especially on higher heat cooks

    THE HEAVY D is what convinced me to get this smoker. I saw the new pellet grill that came out with the box for the wood chunk and first thing I thought of was thats not new LOL (Like some youtubers would claim)! I would guarantee that this is a better quality smoker as well. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this grill for making jerky. put the baffle plate in turn the low smoke featcher on and turn that fan on. I also will never get rid of this smoker just due to the fact for making jerky.

    Tom, I'm considering a new smoker. My old Camp Chef ZG (from Dick's) is kinda dead. So was looking at the Woodwind Pro and saw this video. 2 questions: 1) seems that the idea is similar, but that with the WWPro you can keep adding wood/charcoal, but here you only get to add it once. Seems like you only got 2 hours of smoke? Is that right? 2) Did you find that the extra smoke you get using this method makes a difference versus just a pellet grill?
    Bonus question: would you go pellet or the Char-Griller Gravity 980? Seems that the CG is a better deal than say a WWPro or even just a WW or Traeger 780. Thoughts?

    There’s been a lot of talk about “dirty” smoke since the Camp Chef came out. UA-camrs claim if you use a smoke tube with wood chips or pellets, it’s dirty and bitter. Can’t figure out what the difference would be. I could just set a wood chunk on my Smokefire burn pot heat deflector too. Maybe even make a steel “box” to set on top. Thoughts on dirty smoke?

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ

      Thanks for Watching! Haven’t tried the Woodwind pro yet, unfortunately most don’t completely understand that the best smoke is the smoke you barely see, as I showed especially at higher temps where the Heavy D works very well. The marketing aspect of lots of visible smoke is what sells
