I was about to write the same😂 five in a row, that's exceptional😂 I remember one match vs Sabatini in which she suddenly plays 4 topspin backhands in a row, probably out of frustration because she was about to lose... 4 beautiful powerful drive backhands from the baseline (with Sabatini at the baseline too), the fourth was a clean winner😊
I wouldn't judge her based on this match, at the end of her career. Pam Shriver was regarded as one of the best server's on the women's tour in the 1980s. You're watching this match after a series of shoulder injuries. She won 21 singles titles and has a slew of Grand Slam doubles titles -- Navratilova could've partnered with anybody and picked her for a reason. She has singles victories over all of the best of her era: Austin, Evert, Graf (including 1988), Navratilova, Mandlikova, Sabatini
@@janjr165Pam's serve and volleys were actually big tbh. Not so easy to pass at the net, at all, and often her sliced side-spinning attacks were really tricky for the defending player.
@@nchong2569 Pam finally notched I believe 2 or 3 wins over Evert towards the end of Chris's career, around 1988 Evert lost twice to her. Pam's two biggest victories over Martina both happened at the U. S. Open, in 1978 and 1982
Steffi had an effective backhand ground stroke, before she started slicing everything. Shriver looks flat-footed here. How many aircraft movements during this match though?
Graf indeed had an amazing topspin backhand, but she only really used it when she was playing a net-rusher, like Pam Shriver. By 1992 she was well past her prime, but even at her best Shriver was probably one of the worst mover's to ever be ranked in the top 10, and she made no bones about that, but she was also an incredibly smart player who punched above her weight and she could (and did) take out a top player if they weren't in form. Back in the day overflights from LaGuardia airport used to be a reality at the US Open.
The highlights don't show the match was actually fairly close in the first set. Score was 7-5 6-3. Not an embarrassing score at all. "Granny" won their previous meeting in straight sets despite having "zero weapons".
Very unconvincing. She looked second rate at both the Olympics and U.S Open that year. She also looked pretty mediocre during the indoor court season but she fought her way to four indoor court titles at the end of the year. But some of those wins (e.g. her win against Navratilova in Zurich) were more due to fortunate circumstances IMO. But the fact that she fought through those matches was a small sign that she was getting it together again after her dip in form which started in 1990. Because she looked better in 1993. And even more so in 1994 when she finally switched rackets.
@@gk891Actually she played very well at RG 1992 (where she lost the final just barely to the very best Seles ever), and at Wimbledon, where she had her revenge by destroying Monica in the final.
@@pierdomenicosommati443 I thought Steffi didn't look great in Roland Garros. But she fought her way to the final and somehow dug deep enough to make that final close even though it probably shouldn't have been. And at Wimbledon, I thought Steffi looked second rate again against Mariaan de Swardt and Patty Fendick. But she played her way into form and played well enough to beat both Sabatini and Seles in straight sets.

Don't know who this video launched, but the aircraft noise is absolutely nonsense. Despite of Steffi Grafs game. 😂😂😂 It's ridiculous. Have you been on an airfield? So funny
Tell us you're a troll who doesn't know anything about tennis without saying so. Seriously, even a quick glance at Wikipedia would've rendered you able to make a more intelligent statement than that.
2:45 The most topspin backhands in a row that I've ever seen Graf hit.

Steffi was a phenomenal athlete - so light on her feet, and delivering tremendous power almost effortlessly.
Oooo...Stef didn't like being aced by old Pammy Pamster
Shriver was a good serve and volley player, but her groundstrokes were almost awkward. Really strange form, like almost scooping the ball.
It’s so hard to watch modern tennis vs old school. It was a field day for Graf against this push the ball type of tennis.
Pam-
No forehand
No backhand
No serve
No way

No run also......she is just good for doubles....
actually her serve is probably the best stroke of hers.
no serve? gotta disagree with you there.
There's something comical how Pam plays lol
The planes won.
It's painful to watch.
Pam Shriver played like a serve and volley version of Davenport 😂
The movement….
Yeah I’ve seen a 3 legged hippo move faster.
Please so not disrespectful Lindsay Davenport - her game was MUCH bigger than grandma Pam’s. 😂
@ Most grandmas move faster than Pam

Flat-footed? How about cement footed? If the ball didn't come right to her she didn't even bother moving.

Was Pammie attempting something other than her usual slice forehand?
I'm surprised Shriver was still plugging away in 1992. Not much pace on that serve at 2:01.
This is embarrassing to watch. Watching granny trying to play Steffi Graf with zero weapons is a complete joke and a waste of time.
