Thank you for continuing to try to qualify for the Open. Seeing the UA-camrs we watch so regularly try to really push themselves and achieve something great in competitive golf has always been some of the most compelling content on YT imo. Not only does it highlight the difficulties of real competitive golf, but it shows off one of the best aspects of golf - that even a non-tour pro can have their day & go compete with the best in the world. Tbh it’s a shame so many others have quit trying to make the dream come true. Obv, I understand how difficult it is, but achieving something monumental and meaningful like the Open is as good as it gets! So thank you for keeping it going & will be rooting for you to make it every year you attempt it!
I can understand your frustration but the wind conditions really made it difficult. Thanks for letting us tag along for your round. Having goals for your game is a positive and I wish you good luck for future competitive playing. Thanks for sharing!
Great effort in what seemed to be some difficult conditions!! We’ll be behind you next year and your breaking par series will stand you in good stead 👍🤞
Really glad there are some UA-camrs still posting this content. Lots of the guys just gave up posting anything "competitive" and focus on casual rounds. Lot more to learn from somebody playing in a real comp than there is from somebody playing a random course with nothing on the line.
Well done you , I’ve caddied for a couple of Pro friends back in the day and know how tough Open Qualifying is for all concerned, you should be proud of yourself for trying as many don’t . Loved the video . Next time go play the course ahead and give yourself a better chance . Again good on you for putting yourself under the considerable pressure.
It was a pleasure to walk round with you and watch you battle all the way on a very tough day in 20 mph plus winds. I think given a bit more local knowledge you could have fared a bit better. Your finish was not to bad in the field considering how little competition golf you play. Best of luck for next year.
I was going to say also that playing a practice round or two on that course is pretty essential. Too many shots hit with low confidence by the sound of it and this is exacerbated by lack of local knowledge.
Think you may well have produced one of the most accurate videos of how hard it is to play summer golf in the UK when its dry and windy. Every one of us has gone through what you went through, approach shots racing through the green, too long birdie putts and the classic, always hitting your provisional shot perfect. Really enjoyed that format of video.
Signing up to play and posting the round are huge accomplishments!! Thanks for sharing!! Honest feedback for you: tough course and tough conditions. You did a great job of sticking to it and banging in the nerve wracking par putts. Tom Watson says to walk like a champion. Whether you are ten under or ten over walk like.a champion. No one should be able to tell how you are playing by the way you are walking around the course. I sensed a great deal of frustration and exasperation with your game....one long putt, one blistered 4 iron, one hole out from the bunker and you are right back in it. Keep on grinding.
Thanks for the chance to 'walk' around with you in an Open qualifying round. Playing golf in windy conditions is hard enough but to do it in a qualy round and filming as well puts even more pressure on you. Well done sir on finishing in the top 30. 👍👍👏
Loved it Andy. The commentary was great. Loved what you were trying to do and explanations as to why it did, or didn’t happen. More vids like this please! 👍🏼
Course knowledge and some tournament practice and you can go all the way. Thank you so much for sharing this, I look forward to your videos every week!
Great effort Andy . For someone who doesn't regularly play comps it was a great try. Do a series "I play Open Qualifying Courses' for next years preparation as you probably find a lot of those other players have played there , if not recently , then most likely in the last year.
Really enjoy these vlogs where you're competing, not just playing. It's different when you know you need a score to be successful and love the reflection in the car with the baby seat.
You putted awesome !! 9 long par putts so good. You made 4-5 strokes errors in pitching , course unfamiliarity basically. Filming and posting so quick is way harder than your competitors. Great showing Andy !
Thanks for sharing this, Andy. Summarizing a pressure packed round in this manner is really enlightening. Question: I think you changed your putter just ahead of this event. Do you think that played into some of those less optimal initial putts resulting in long par saves? I believe you unwrapped it in a recent video with Peter Finch but perhaps that has been in the can for quite a while so you may have had quite a bit more time with the putter than what the time distortion of UA-cam makes apparent. Of all the UA-cam golfers I watch, I really believe you are the most talented and most capable of qualifying for an Open Championship tournament. I hope you are able to continue working to try to land there again next year with more success. Also, don't change the putter between now and then!
I’ve used the putter for a good 5-6 rounds prior to qualifying and it’s definitely the reason I held lots of par putts. I just couldnt get comfortable on the 1st putts but I also need to get tidier with the approach wedges. Thanks for your comment/ it’s really appreciated
well done Andy, great courage to do this and you weren't very far away. You have the length, just need to work on your wedges. Looking forward to seeing you in the Open next year!!!
Fair play Carter my head would have gone after that double after 4. To end up like you did after 4 over through 6 is mega impressive in those windy conditions!
Hi Andy, brilliant video mate! So good to capture every shot. Honestly was a tough day with that wind and only missing by 4 wasn't bad. Wanted to give a little advice as I play a links course at my home clubm driving and putting were superb! You can't lag put well in 30kph+ winds but you holed out so well. The only advice i would give is learning to play 7-9 iron half shots into the greens rather than wedges into the wind. Also a fat forgiving untily or hybrid long instead of blade like 4 irons you had 2 misses with would really be for forgiving of those tight links fairways and reduce the doubled. Hope they helps.🙌😃 You are a Stella ball striker mate and don't give on the open next year. Best wishes. Dom👍
It's nice to see competitive golf made accessible and explained for those of us who just hack round - the processes in shot selections and the like are good to hear as it re-enforces some sensible choices rather than getting too aggressive and carding a million
Looked like tough conditions. 2 Big positives - Driving and putting from 5 to 8 feet. 3 Big negatives - Not committing to iron shots - not chipping anything really close from not bad lies - long range putting not close enough. Improve your negatives from 3/4 out of ten to 7/8 out of ten and you have a realistic chance. To qualify for the open the negatives need to be 9/10 out of ten with no lapse in driving and holing out. Good luck for next year.
Yes driver was on 🔥 thankfully and I’m very confident holing out for pars but the long putts were poor and approaches with a little untidy. Work to do but I’ll go again
Being a member there it was the first time for about a month it actually was blowing….there flags on some of the holes were in a lot easier places that could of been placed…and some holes were in tough places..I could of caddied for you😂..as with every ones courses I have got to know mine pretty well and know we’re to not hit it…or certainly try not to…but as we know it never works out like that..I presume Andy you never did a practice round…so you did pretty well..not sure if you will try again at the hesketh next year but it should be their the next 3 years in theory
Great video! 👍 well done for getting in the top 30 massive achievement! 👏 with the pressures of filming as well! As much as the subscribers would not like it. If you didnt film it (we would understand)😂 i think you will be playing it next year, your standard of play is awesome!! And thanks for letting us continue to see your journey!!
Love seeing you and the others playing in these sort of comps and producing this content, was always a dream to play golf to this level but never quite made it so great seeing what I could have won! 😂
27th is wonderful. Yes you left some shots on the course. Wished you could have had a practice round. Always hard to play in the wind. Well done. Keep going. I did enjoy the round.
Great video and a good effort. I'm really glad you're going to continue entering and I hope you'll play MUCH more competitive golf! I'll definitely be in attendance next time :)
Well done Andy. If you want it badly enough, then you have what it takes to get it. What you must decipher is the question, is the pain of failure worse than the pain of success. Good luck. All our support.
Think your being a bit harsh on yourself - the par saves are such a big positive especially when you struggled with your approaches today. Looked pretty decent to me mate - I reckon you can make the open one day
Was a great episode Andy , looked a challenge though greens must have played hard because nobody was ripping it up , top 30 is a good result . Feel for you just missing out on your longer irons im going through a rough iron patch too had to get my club pro on the case with a lesson :P
I know this was frustrating for you Andy but from a content perspective I think this is one of your best vids. I really hope you keep trying to qualify in the future, seeing you on the first tee of The Open would be awesome for all of your viewers. Cheers mate.
Well done Andy, really enjoyed this VLOG and review format, dont give up on your open qualification dream as you have a fantastic swing and its just a case of cutting out a few minor errors
Loved watching your Open Qualifying run. A big thank-you to your camera person. I'm sure it's frustrating to note the wasted shots here and there, but tbf there were plenty of positives and your short putting was spot on. If only those short putts had been for birdies/eagles... btw, I do enjoy vlogs having commentary and analysis added post-round. Thx!
Kudos to you for going for it - it must be a much harder challenge than the rest of us face. Tough conditions to play in - strong swirling wind is a nightmare. And yes to more of this style of content. Cheers
Hi Andy, I've got a couple of questions for you. Why didn't you have somebody carrying your bag and next year will you practise more on the course you are qualifying on ? Thanks for the video, it's never easy first thing in the morning.
That was a great effort Andy. Luck certainly wasnt going your way on the day as that could have easily been 4 or 5 strokes better with you doing very little differently. Thanks for sharing the journey for us that would give our right arm to be half as good as you 👍
Don’t normally hit like or comment. But loved this style. Lots of course vlogs being done out there but watching you in comp with your true thoughts, reflections and feelings thrown in over the top. Great stuff. Better luck next time.
Bit of an up and down round. My congratulations on not letting a couple of those early bogey's drop you off track for the round. You were able to bounce back and make some good shots. All in all, I would say that you were really close and a bounce here or an executed shot there and you'd have been in the playoff. Great job and thank you for sharing
Great battling stuff Andy. You kept grinding out the puts to keep your round alive, and to film it as well takes a lot off bottle. Great to hear that you’ll be back to give it another go next year. More competitive content would be great also.
A really solid round Andy, every credit... It's a tough course in the wind, and as a member it's been great seeing quality players like yourself taking it on under tough conditions. Good luck next year 👍
Appreciate you bringing us along on your round and I really enjoyed your commentary. One question after hearing you comment about last playing the course over 10 years ago. Did you not consider getting in a practice round in the weeks leading up to the event? You talked on several holes about not being 100% sure of the line and there were definitely some blind tee and approach shots.
Well done Andy great commentary, looks like you were hitting it well just difficult conditions and perhaps a lack of course knowledge. Loved the video and great to see you playing competitively.
I watched open qualifying at the county course Northampton-3 was the best score but like where you played was very windy early on but dropped later in the day ,well done for competing just proves how hard it is to qualify 😊
You can see why the pros are putting most off there training time on the wedge game so important to give yourself a chance for birdie. Love the content Andy.
Really liked the style of video in a truely competitive context. Love to see more. I think you are too hard on yourself from the start as your body language showed. Well done and thanks for your skill it gives me great pleasure to see good golf.
Thanks for sharing even though it wasn't your best effort. Since you asked, the only criticism I have was the long iron play wasn't great. The 4 iron got you in a lot of trouble.
Forget the online nonsense Andy! There are those who talk and those who walk the walk like you! I'm convinced you will qualify one year mate you definitely have the game mate! Great video thank you Andy keep up the grind ⛳️ 🏌️♂️
Great to see you entering and posting your video despite not making it. Shame to see you appear so negative and getting on at yourself early in the round. A lot of good par putts. But how many putts were left short haha. Respectable score though and try again next year!
The conditions where tricky which you can’t do anything about. In my opinion your commitment to your chosen shot is your priority, from what you showed that cost you the most. Keep fighting champ! 👍🏌️♂️⛳️

Golf is hard. Posting a video for everyone to see that doesn’t make you feel good, even harder. Thumbs up Carter
I can understand your frustration but the wind conditions really made it difficult. Thanks for letting us tag along for your round. Having goals for your game is a positive and I wish you good luck for future competitive playing. Thanks for sharing!
I like this more serious format. Sometimes I get a little tired of banter vids, this was a great.
Great effort in what seemed to be some difficult conditions!! We’ll be behind you next year and your breaking par series will stand you in good stead 👍🤞
Thanks for bringing us along. Really difficult and can appreciate your dismay. Will be along for the next time. Cheers to you!
Great video mate. 10/10 content. You get massive respect for "every shot" filming in a comp. If you can do a few more of these I'll be grateful 👍
Really glad there are some UA-camrs still posting this content. Lots of the guys just gave up posting anything "competitive" and focus on casual rounds. Lot more to learn from somebody playing in a real comp than there is from somebody playing a random course with nothing on the line.

I had played it before at least 10 years ago so could have done with being more familiar for sure! Especially on 5 when i made double

A thoroughly enjoyable video . One of the most inyeresting i have seen. I love your commentry , honest , concise and understandable . Thankyou
This is great. I love that you've gone for it. Nothing but support from the USA. Great effort, looking forward to more!
Well done Andy - thanks for taking us along - loved it

Great video Andy. Enjoyed the style of the video and it was good seeing you playing some competitive golf again. Very honest and humble throughout 👍🏼
Keep living the dream Andy.....and post it on YT.....great watch and love to see more of you in comps
Kudos for giving it a shot. I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Keep it going! Would love to see you in more competitions.

Love the content. Keep pushing Andy. You make great coaching content. Easy to incorporate mostly.

Now that's what you call having Fun!! Keep going, keep enthused, your day will come.
Hard luck Andy.
Thanks for showing us your round and giving us your honest take on things!

Try Lydia Kos way normal grip for lag putts reverse grip to hole the birdie putts.
well done Andy, great courage to do this and you weren't very far away. You have the length, just need to work on your wedges. Looking forward to seeing you in the Open next year!!!

Absolutely loved this style of video
I love these videos Andy, I hope you golf gets to where you want to be 🏌️♂️⛳️

Fair play for giving it a go. Looking forward to next year's video already
Did you choose Hesketh Andy or are you allocated it? Great video, hope you play more comps!
27th is wonderful. Yes you left some shots on the course. Wished you could have had a practice round. Always hard to play in the wind. Well done. Keep going. I did enjoy the round.

Think your being a bit harsh on yourself - the par saves are such a big positive especially when you struggled with your approaches today. Looked pretty decent to me mate - I reckon you can make the open one day
Absolutely brilliant 💯
from this perspective, it just looked compltely mental for you my guy! swing looked good. props to u for uploading this one
So sorry it didn't go to plan. It was a gutsy attempt. I am looking forward to your next video.
Was a great episode Andy , looked a challenge though greens must have played hard because nobody was ripping it up , top 30 is a good result . Feel for you just missing out on your longer irons im going through a rough iron patch too had to get my club pro on the case with a lesson :P

Enjoyed this Andy & look forward to more in this vain.
Well done Carter. Tough round but nice to see you making the short putts. Keep at it!
Love your content Andy and your honesty!
I appreciate that! Thanks Rob
Enjoyed seeing your round, with the good and bad. Glad to hear you're considering playing more competitive golf. Really enjoyed this style of content.
Kudos to you for going for it - it must be a much harder challenge than the rest of us face.
Tough conditions to play in - strong swirling wind is a nightmare.
And yes to more of this style of content.
Cheers
Thanks Malcolm
Loved this Andy, keep going know you have the game 👍
Well done Andy, filming and attempting to qualify at the same time, plus the audience on the 13th green, big balls mate ⛳️
Looked tough out there, unlucky mate....you'll get there!
Hi Andy, I've got a couple of questions for you. Why didn't you have somebody carrying your bag and next year will you practise more on the course you are qualifying on ? Thanks for the video, it's never easy first thing in the morning.

Thanks, appreciate the comment. Hoping to compete more and do more of this style
Bit of an up and down round. My congratulations on not letting a couple of those early bogey's drop you off track for the round. You were able to bounce back and make some good shots.
Good luck next year 👍
Will definitely try again next year 👊🏽
How did your playing partners do scoring wise?
Appreciate you bringing us along on your round and I really enjoyed your commentary. One question after hearing you comment about last playing the course over 10 years ago. Did you not consider getting in a practice round in the weeks leading up to the event? You talked on several holes about not being 100% sure of the line and there were definitely some blind tee and approach shots.
Well done Andy great commentary, looks like you were hitting it well just difficult conditions and perhaps a lack of course knowledge. Loved the video and great to see you playing competitively.
Great effort- it just shows that it only takes a couple of bad shots to undo so many good holes.
Well done!
Great watch Andy.looked a proper battle in that wind on a tough course . Any more efforts allowed?
Love the video. Good effort. Bloody tough to do a competitive tourney with a camera. Well played.
I watched open qualifying at the county course Northampton-3 was the best score but like where you played was very windy early on but dropped later in the day ,well done for competing just proves how hard it is to qualify 😊
Good effort, I played Caldy , wind was insane !!
Honest commentary
Short putting was excellent!
Thank fully it was good , could have been a nightmare haha
Fair play Andy, well done for trying. You're not far off, you'll get there.
Well done for filming it. That must have been tricky
Fair play for trying mate. Solid putting and a decent showing. Keep plugging away 👍🏼
Loved it mate. Keep it up
Hell of an effort! Great content
Better luck next year Carter BIG STYLE
You can see why the pros are putting most off there training time on the wedge game so important to give yourself a chance for birdie. Love the content Andy.
Well done bud, u put urself up there like finch has in the past. If u dont try u dont get. Good effort
Really liked the style of video in a truely competitive context. Love to see more. I think you are too hard on yourself from the start as your body language showed. Well done and thanks for your skill it gives me great pleasure to see good golf.
Good stuff Andy, great vid. Disappointing score for you but you grinded well on a tough day. Fair play to you
Great effort mate hard lines.
Well done Cartdog, T27 is very good. Perhaps a practice round before the qualifier would help you 🤔
Yeah i should have had a practice round but it was a 3hr drive and i really didnt have chance. I had played it about 7-10yrs ago so banked on that lol
Great vlog! I rate with a practise round before to do a bit of home work you will easily do it next year.
The conditions where tricky which you can’t do anything about. In my opinion your commitment to your chosen shot is your priority, from what you showed that cost you the most. Keep fighting champ! 👍🏌️♂️⛳️
