To be fair, at this stage of his career Damon Albarn can afford not to give a shit about the money - having said that, I still respect him for being principled in the face of such crass exploitation...
If he didn't care about the money, he wouldn't have spent most of his time shilling his albums like an insecure Californian Schoolgirl. Be it through interviews, advertising campaigns and whatever lame and inane political crap he can promote and bolster. He's no better than most rappers who shill brand names and the names of themselves and their producers. To quote the Unicorn-Killer "The more money you have, the more you want". And it's no different with Damon All-for-Sale-I mean, Damon Albarn.
@@caljackal6139 Coxon didn't go on a lavish marketing spree if I recall. Some of his albums had little advertising as is and were on his own record label with little to no budget. Particularly The Sky Is Too High and The Kiss of Morning.

For all the people saying that the interviewer is a tool or an idiot or whatever for trying to say it'd be a good idea for artists to have their music on Glee, it's called playing the devil's advocate. He's presenting questions that people who WOULD have their music on Glee would probably ask. The question would be a lot less interesting if it's just the both of them agreeing with each other, saying, "Yeah, Glee's stupid and pointless."
RaptorRoll That's the point, every good interviewer learns to play the devil's advocate because it peppers up the interview and steers away from tedium and draws out more in-depth responses from the interviewee...it calls on them to defend their position. It's not playing the devils advocate when he comes across in tone as if its laughable and strange and oblivious of Damon to make the statements that he's making about that stair of the industry.
I don't think the interviewer was a "tool" or any of the things you said after all he's just doing his job, it's just that by this point Damon really doesn't need to put his name or Gorillaz "out there"! It's like if he needed his advice on that he 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥'𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘦𝘥 you know?
Glee is an abomination. I don't know how Fox turned such an imbecilic concept into a widely viewed show...the cast butchers good music! Damon was in the right for saying this...

But I do agree they should have hired song writers and do original songs. They did a few original songs on the show. But not enough. But at the end of the day Damon owns the rights to songs by Blur and Gurilliaz and he can do whatever he wants with his music. He should be in control, so power to him.
Damon is such a true artist...a purist at heart. I can see in his eyes that he misses "the good old days" of the nineties when bands were pouring their heart and soul into heavy and emotive lyrics.
Glee fans aren't big music fans with vast record collections and a deep interest in the roots of popular song. They're kids, teens and young adults looking for a bit of escapism and I don't see the harm in it.
Glee isn't about 'showing' anyone anything - it's just a television show about kids who are growing up & found music & singing to be an outlet for their (sometimes idiotic) problems. Just because a band chooses to put their music on the show doesn't mean they're sell outs or anything like that. Glee helps some kids get through things. It isn't hard to understand. For one glee has wrote it's own music and it's a tv show about show choir how many show choirs preform original song? He's the creator of a cartoon band (which has been done before) nugget said.
This is why Albarn has endured with integrity among so many others of the Britpop era. At his best he always was keenly attuned to culture and its misgivings.
