Uncut Damon Albarn Interview on Making Gorillaz and Being a Pacifist (2002)

In early December 2001, Blur frontman and Gorillaz creator Damon Albarn spoke to ITN about his recent statement against the war in Afghanistan at the 2001 MTV Europe Awards. While collecting his gong on stage, Albarn told the audience that "bombing one of the poorest countries in the world is wrong". Behind the scenes of the making of Charts of Darkness, a promotional Gorillaz mockumentary, Albarn explained the reasoning behind his anti-war statement, and discussed his family's history of conscientious objection as well as what he perceived as the music industry's increasing detachment from reality.

Thanks! It was recorded in 2001, they're filming The Charts of Darkness mocumentary here and it premiered on Channel 4 on December 11, 2001. Was it shown in some tv program on February 3, 2002?

Thanks for highlighting! This interview was never actually broadcast - the rushes were catalogued with the February 2002 date as they were originally taken from a compilation of that date. While we have no exact date for the filming, we've amended the video description to say "early December 2001" as this seems most likely. Hope you enjoyed our edit!
