I bought a Zero turn mower for my yard which has hilly areas and it is scary. Did you notice that they have seat belts where the lawn tractor doesn't? That's because when you are on a steep hill, your butt tends to slide downhill and since you are not holding on to a fixed steering wheel you are helpless without that seat belt because your hands cannot move off of the control sticks. Also, my neighbors all use a service that uses zero turns and they all have deep ruts around their shrubbery on the hillsides from the rear wheels. If I had a lot of flat ground with no hills and didn't need to use a trailer and other equipment I would go for the zero turn. But for all-around yard work as a homeowner where time is not a factor, I would buy the lawn tractor as it is the most comfortable and user-friendly since we all drive cars and trucks.

What John Deere doesn't tell you is that the deck is only under warranty for one year, then you're on your own. That's basically one season. I had the rivets pull out of the belt tensioner on the 60" deck on a 1025R and John Deere doesn't warranty it. It's just 17 months old. Be sure to let customers know the truth about the decks.

Another big thing is the cost of having a zero turn rather than a tractor - it is about $1200-$1500 difference. One must also consider that the speed of RTM can be a liability which could tear up your lawn when making turns. So when turning take your time. To me, it is all about money.

You can tell this was done 2 yrs ago. It is 2023 and my JD showroom and backlot had no mowers to sell. I was soooo lucky someone canceled an order, and was able to get a new z530m. Would maybe have gone up to an R series if I had ordered it. It will be next spring before they deliver any mowers to customers

Hello, what do you recommend for a snow plow addon? I live in upstate NY and we get a ton of snow. Thank you for any advice you can help me with.

Zero turn hands down. Tractors steering is total rubbish and expensive to maintain. Too many moving parts.

Driven both… zero turns suck on hills and are downright scary if you are near a hazard like water or steep berms. So no, tractors aren’t rubbish and they definitely have a place on hilly terrain.

With good maintenance itd be about the same. Tryin get one with a good Kawasaki or kohler engine. The transmission on both are generally sealed and considered the weak point. Keep your oil changed, blades sharp and change belts periodically and theyll last you a good many years. Oh,and clean the grass off after each use. My sister uses a john deere l110 from 2003,and it's got over 1100hours on it. The tires have tubes because of dryrot and she did have to replace the hood once because the hinge had broken
