I used to live next to a railway as a boy the house used to rumble when class 37s used to go by its brought back so many memories just hearing that sound again brilliant 👍
When I was a boy growing up in Coventry in the 1960s my parents use to go for a drink at the Royal Oak pub in Brandon and those 37s use to go tear-assing by doing what seemed to me to be a 1000 miles per hour with 10 or more carriages towing behind, I cant remember if they were the blue or maroon ones? I even remember steam trains pulling into Coventry station and scaring the bejesus out of me. But they were amazing days for sure! Great video sir!
I don’t know what it is about these 37s, ugly though that’s not the right word, but beautiful at the same time and the sound is amazing. Would love to see one up close again in the metal.
this is the probably one of the longest videos i have watched on youtube and enjoyed every minute of it thanks for sharing have to agree the sound is magnificent keep safe cheers for now al 😁👍👍👍🙋♂️😁👌👌
Drove many class 37s when I was a fireman out of eastfield traction depot springburn Glasgow yo the west highland line queens street to Oban fantastic and the ghost train to Oban 1974 my uncle Jim Matthew was a mainline driver I spent many shifts with him
These used to double head the iron ore trains up the gradients to Consett in County Durham, I lived about a mile or so from a 1 in 35 stretch near Annfield Plain, I can still hear them labouring up on full bore, sweet sound, nearly as good as the 9F's that preceded them...
First shot looks like Newport (NPT) sometime in the 90’s. Remember going there often to film the class 37’s and 125’s breezing through. No where near the same level of freight traffic today. We export little and what does come through is generally freight haulers pulling liquified gas or containers.
Yes it's Newport used to see so many 37s here for so many years was a awesome sight and sound to hear these machines in the valleys with a heavy coal train now sadly gone
@@MrThrash37 It thrashed up a bit so must have been a keen driver as they didnt usually there but like I say it had a long load on so if he hadnt probably wouldnt of made it into the loop lol
Never got to hear a 37 accelerate like some of these passenger services, more often or not they were getting going from carnforth loop with a fair old load behind them. Probably when the 37 sounded the best
Great stuff, thanks! That's some serious torque when you look at how quickly a class 37 can pick up speed. 💪😎
I saw a graph in a magazine recently, even compared to a 66 they have a respectable starting torque.
Loved every bit of that, such a wonderful sound!👍👍
Thanks for taking the time to watch as always David!
Oh you can give more of this all day long! They are quite simply the best engine sounds ever 🇬🇧👍
there are many engines with similar power units to the class 37's but non of them can match the sound! Why is that???

Thanks for watching Derry!
Omg I really wish I could of been around in that time amazing footage there mr 37 thrash
Dont you just love the sound of these beasts at full throttle. They've got that roar and whistle that you don't get we the new diesels.
Thanks for watching Jej, you can’t really get much better than a 37!

Shame we don’t see as much freight now.

Great shot of 428 at Bescot. That was 03.08.01. I photted that round the corner at Walsall station. Had a massive load on.
Yes shame it was coasting, still looked great on a freight working. Not sure how it looks better than the WCRC brown!

Wow Tom this is a cracking collection of filming your dad did.

Love the 37!
The perfect video doesn’t exi... Spectacular video, definitely annoyed a few neighbours by playing this one! 😂
Very kind! Don’t annoy them too much 🤣😂
8.28....as the Growler gives way to the Bird Song....that and the view from the Drone......you won’t get better than that, imho!
Very nice. My best is still the Moorswater to Liskeard on the 1 in 37 climb with china clay.
Thanks, I’ll have to check it out.
Lovely video
Thanks!
This is like ASMR for Men!
I think 401 is now with Bo'ness in BR large Logo?
Currently operational with DRS I believe
Correct it’s a DRS loco, they have most of the /4s for now.
What makes these versions of Class 37s louder than the others?
What does the clag smell like? Is it oily and sharp or is it nice and smoky?
Oily!!
Brillant
Thanks for watching Nick.
412 was in a poor state. Is still around?
cut up in 2012
