Joel is a very smart defensive player. This shows how much he means to the Sixers. Everything functions through him, and without him, the Sixers are a bottom 5 team. So glad he's back.

Great video , as a Sixers fan it baffles me the lack of hype Embiid’s defense gets by other fans. Year after year he’s both the offensive and defensive anchor and he is tremendous at both.
I really believe he should be sitting with at least one DPOY and multiple All Defensive Teams. I think he’s the best two way player in the nba and has been for a couple years now.

Embiid's defense is extremely underrated, people acknowledge he's a positive defender but in reality he has top 15 defensive impact on a game to game basis, and when he turns on the jets he's one of the best 2-3 defenders in the game imo. Should really be getting all defense consideration yearly but hasnt been on a team since 2020. I think his growth in offensive capabilities and leap to mvp caliber player the past few years has kind of overshadowed his defensive ability

People really underrate embiid on that end. Last years team was like a top 7 defense iirc and they started harden/maxey in the backcourt and pj tucker and tobias harris on the wings. A complete sieve and a liability in harden/maxey, old guy with inconsistent effort in the regular season in tucker, and a guy who is probably about neutral in harris and they were a top defense. Pretty wild

You'd think you're looking at a big lumbering stiff, but his feet are so quick and agile, it's not even fair. Giannis is like that, too, out of position defensively and then just teleports into the play. Watch some plays slowed down, it's uncanny. And Embiid isn't just size and strength. He's got technique when he's fighting for position. He'll chuck a big right out of the play and make it look like he did nothing. He's a giant among giants.
Embiid being as good as he is offensively i feel overshadows his defense. If he stayed healthy he was having a season where he should've been a dpoy candidate, year in year out it's pretty much the same story, sixers are a top 10 defense with him on the court and a dumpster fire with him off it, and when he really turns it on he's flat out dominant on that end. Kind of the unspoken component of his game that makes him so valuable, people know he's a plus defender but having the top scorer in the league also be a player that singlehandedly transforms a trash defense into a top 10 one is absurd

76ers defense in Game 1 of Celtics vs Sixers without Joel was a complete layup line. I believe they scored around 40-50 points in the paint, and for the rest of the series they never scored close. He was amazing defensively despite being injured, and the Tatum 50 was tough but any center not named Bam getting cooked too in that situation.
Scoring champ whose best element to his game is his defense. Enough said.

@@Pump-rq2uf i beg to differ. the correct defensive scheme can render his offense useless. as we've seen several years in the playoffs. but there isnt a offensive scheme that can take away what he does to opposing offenses. he has off nights offensively, but he's never had an off night defensively.

It looked like it was part of the Heat gameplan to get Embiid involved in as many actions as possible to test his fitness. Embiid was gassed by the end but it wasn't enough for the Heat to get the win. Go Sixers.

Lol why do you keep mentioning Reed?? Mo Bamba is the center that started most when Embiid was out. And the primary thing Reed is good at is defense. The bigger issue was losing Embiid's 35 ppg. I agree with the general premise that Embiid has always been very underrated defensively, but that has nothing to do with Reed, who is also good at defense.
