Cartier and Islamic Art, Architecture and Exhibition Design

  • The Dallas Architecture Forum and the Dallas Museum of Art presented a program focused on the DMA's exhibition "Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity." The program, entitled “Designing An Exhibition: Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity”, was presented August 4, 2022. Jaffer Kolb, Founder of design firm New Affiliates and design collaborator with Diller Scofidio and Renfro on the exhibition, gave a brief lecture highlighting how Cartier was influenced by Islamic architecture, manuscripts, and art in designing the jewelry and decorative objects on exhibit. He also discussed how those influences were incorporated into the exhibition. Following his presentation, Mr. Kolb was joined by Sarah Schleuning, co-curator of the Cartier exhibition and Margot B. Perot Senior Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the DMA for a brief conversation moderated by Kate Aoki, AIA, Head of Exhibition Design at the DMA.
