- Here is the great British tenor, Sir Peter Pears, with his partner Lord Benjamin Britten on piano, singing the two arias for tenor from Mozart's Don Giovanni: "Il mio tesoro" and "Dalla sua pace". They were performed at Jubilee Hall, Aldeburgh, 1963.

Were it not for Britten's stunning accompaniment, i'd be floored by Pears! But the composer/pianist, tho' perfectly supportive of the tenor, surpasses any piano & voice interpretation i have ever heard.
Pears did not have quiet the vocal qualities to be among the greatest tenors. Sincerely,
quite...
In Mozart arias, Pears sound very well, similar to Leopold Simoneau, but very far from John Mc Cormack related to long pharses, sotto voce and high notes. In short, there are a lot of lyric tenors too much better, among them Burrows, Gedda, McCormack, Kraus, Dermota, Martini, Crooks or Schipa. Greetings,
In this aria, McCormack's soft voice and legato are especially beautiful. I don't like Pears' voice very much, but Britten accompanies incredibly well.
Stuart Burrows is smoother and with magnificent breath control
You have to like the voice.
Not exactly Wunderlich!
