"Why would I enjoy this? No I'm not a masochist." kind of sounds like her response to Hansel, since in his song he says how Gretel is lucky getting so much attention.
@@omega2432 Hansel was pretty much saying she she should be glad to be getting all the attention (attention in the form of bullying and abuse tho) since he wants any attention, but gretel is saying “why would I ever enjoy this? I’m not a masochist (someone who enjoys pain)”
I think it’s really interesting that Gretel seemingly really likes Fairytales and fictional stories, while her brother seems to really like Circuses and performances. It adds flavor to her character
Notable is the presence of Circus references in this song too, but only in a purely negative light. She gets the circus, but she doesn’t want it. Her brother, however, desperately craves the circus.
makes sense, gretel wishes people will love her and not treat her like a monster for her skin condition, kind of like a fairy tale where she can have a happy ever after, meanwhile hansel wishes he could be the star of the show like in a circus
My own theory of hansel and gretel is: Gretel has been ridiculed and bullied all her life being "ugly" seemingly from an condition she cannot control. She had attention all the time due to her being the punching bag of everyone. She later on at night got stabbed by a man who go scared of her, killing her. Her brother on the other hand, Hansel, has never gotten any sort of this attention, no matter how hard he tried. He envied his sister for getting attention, even if it was negative, because he couldn't even have someone look over to him for a second. He then started to get into more and more dangerous stunts, trying to make people to look over to no avail. At one point though, he went insane in one of his stunts and died in the end, finally getting attention in the form of a funeral.
something interesting i wanted to point out: when is hansel the happiest? when hes surrounded by people, and finally the center of attention when is gretel the happiest? when shes finally alone and has some peace to herself
Yeah. She understood that all her brother wanted was attention, and envied her for getting attention, even if it was negative. They obviously didn't have a good relationship, but she still wants the best for her brother now that they're both dead. Edit: even though she implies he went to hell-
@@justsomerandomartist3897 she literally says "lol I'm going to heaven you're going to hell, when you get there smother my brother for me cause I hate him" where did you get "she wants the best for him" from that lmfao
@@-VoDkAsVengeance- imo it feels more like, since she had such a big trauma like thing with attention, what she meant with that line is related to that fact. So yes she probably said that out of hate to wish him the same pain she had to deal with.
I realized something about Gretel and Hansel's songs. Gretel's song sounds like something that would get your attention, with the repeated cymbal taps, while Hansel's starts off more quiet and unlikely to get your attention. Meanwhile, at the end of Handel's song, he ends on a loud note, leaving a lasting impression, while in Gretel's song, she slowly fades out on a quiet note, leaving no impression. They both started with something they don't want, and ending with something they wanted
I like all the baking metaphors in Gretel's song, she's saying she was baked/born all wrong. It really starts to add up why they're named after children almost baked to death.
as someone who’s dealt with bullying, a skin condition, abuse, as well as having synesthesia, this song seems like it was written for me and its scary how close it hits to home
They make me so sad. I almost feel like they were purposefully pitted against each other, as is in abusive households; Hanzel purposefully neglected to the point he's seething in envy of his sister instead of seeking comfort from her, and Gretel taking the brunt of the abuse both outside and in her home. I feel like they had a rather close relationship at one point, because even when Gretel is petty she only goes as far as to "purposefully misplace [someone's] keys, be the reason why [they] sneeze" and wants someone to smother her brother with love while she's having her death fantasy after being stabbed (meaning: she thinks he deserves some positive attention even if he won't take it from her, especially if she isn't there anymore).
@@itshere.run.6724I also think they had a close relationship at one point because at a certain point Hansel said “how I long for your arms again” im assuming this is referencing Gretel
I mean... No, I don't think so. It could had been better, a lot, of course; but a trong sibling dynamic would not erase the fact that the world eitheir despise you or forgot you.
*Theory for the story/relationship of these two siblings WARNING: it's kinda long :p* I have a theory that both Hansel and Gretel are partially either talking directly to or at least responding to each other within their songs. One thing I find interesting that I've noticed is that there seems to be somewhat of a theme of "believing" that both of them sing about (Gretel more so than Hansel I think, but still) with which they seem to be directly addressing or referncing the other. Hansel: "I might lose me a leg or head, maybe you would believe me then" Gretel: "So you don't believe me, well I'll make it easy.." "wish I did but I don't believe him" "All I want is a quiet evening, and now you're telling me that my dream is not one worth believing in?" It really feels like an argument theare having, maybe resemlbing confrontations they had with each other while alive. The point being argued seems to be who has it "worse" (or maybe even in general, not believing the other had it bad at all, since it seems like both of them desired what the other had), probably incited by Hansel being somewhat like "You should be grateful to have all this attention on you. I wish I had your life. Getting negative attention is at least better than being forgotten by everyone" with Gretel countering in some way that "This is isn't something anyone would ever wish for. Nobody's even nice to me, I wish I could just be let alone by everyone" (Also though not literally involving the word "believe" I would also still group in here the line from Hansel where he goes "That there's my sister, that big facial blister, yeah you couldn't miss her. Her pity getting scheme" which I'd say implies that he believes she's actually doing this on purpose and not believing that she's actually in pain) In general, Gretel's song to me seems like she's trying to defend or explain herself to her brother, especially those allegations of her not being in pain, doing things on purpose and generally the envy he feels towards her. "It's not the effect of poison ivy, I go hiking carefully" and "Not my fault my body's spots resemble dried apricots" both possibly being a way for her to express "I'm not doing this on purpose, there's no "scheme". I didn't choose this, why would anybody ever choose this?" Also with "hate my buds, just because, there's not enough room for us" and "It shouldn't be you, the one who's feeling bad, not with all your intact arteries" I think she is again addressing Hansel directly. Basically telling him how unfair he's being for demonizing her for something that not just wasn't her choice, but she also suffers from. I also feel like Gretel, besides having been bullied, has also faced abuse. And even though it might be a stretch and I don't know if there's much to back it up, but I feel like maybe her brother (or also her father) was also verbally or even physically abusive to her. "With red gloves, all you touch certainly will get marked up, I in fact, in light of this, became your painting canvas" I've seen some people relate that line in particular back to Hansel's "Just red paint? Babe, this ain't pretend" and basically being her not taking him seriously in his endeavors, which I still think can be true but Gretel's line also could be a metaphor for physical abuse (one that I heard used quite a number of times before) But at the same time it could just be symbolizing how Hansel in his head created his own narrative of her being an "attention seeker" and demonizing her. "It's me against you and dad, not afraid to punch him back" I think that line makes it clear that did very much suffer either physical abuse (literal punching) or, still, verbal abuse (metaphhorical punching so to speak) from either her father or brother, or maybe even both. I also noticed how neither of them mention their mother and Hansel has some lines like "how I long for your arms again" which could maybe mean their mother died or left them. Possibly her disappearence had somewhat something to do with Gretels condition, leading their father to let out his anger and frustation about it on Gretel in forms of verbal/physical abuse and then Hansel, with his distorted view of reality, interpreting that, as well as part of the "attention he never got" In conclusion, they both hate each other deeply and wish only the worst for the other. Probably because they both had what the other wanted and lack of empathy to truly understand the other's struggle, even though I have to say after listening to both songs I'm siding more with Gretel cause it seems like he kinda was a real jerk to her and that she still tried to be nice and understanding for a while until it all got too much and she eventually snapped. There's much, much, much more but I don't really know how to put all my thoughts into words here properly and also it would make my commment a bit too long. But in case you read through all of it: thank you for time, and please feel free to your thoughts with on this! :)
I have the same thoughts! I also may have something to add! There is also a reference of Gretel's lines (possibly directly to Hansel) with "Eating my own kind is against my beliefs. You, though, had no problem tearing life and limb from limb from Ted and Jim so Made of stone your heart must be"... A reference to the song "People eater" and that Hansel is a people eater. Hansel probably had friends called Ted and Jim but since he is a people eater, they left him and now he is whining about being alone and not having attention. People had a good reason not wanting to connect to him. I also noticed in Hansel's song he focused more on just his misery and how he hated his sister and is proud of self sabotage for the sake of attention and continued demonizing his sister in such wrong reasons. He was purposefully making her look like the bad guy -- but in Gretel's song we may have found out more about his true self and why no one wanted to give him attention. He was a terrible person, but Hansel wouldn't confess that, no? That would ruin his 'pity grabbing' song. Awful.
@@redcraddle1515 no, people eater has nothing to do with hansel or gretel. hansel didn't get attention because of gretel, but also because he was never taught how to properly interact with other people "coffee and peppermint tea, brewing instructions engraved on leaves" coffee doesnt have leaves, which symbolizes hansel , peppermint tea has leaves so it can be brewed (other people have been taught how to properly interact with one another , coffee leaves dont have the right materials to be brewed and even if they could it wouldnt taste very good, he cant "brew"(interact) well with other people "symbols that i cant read" even if he wanted to he cant understand how to interact with others properly in hansel's song, he says "i THINK i hate her" (referring to gretel) which clearly implies that hansel does not actually hate gretel. he pities himself because no one else will. that line in gretel's song was likely referring to their father, because it is implied that he's physically abusive "it's me against you and dad not afraid to punch him back", that line didnt apply that hansel ever physically hurt gretel, either. the "you" is clearly referring to hansel, if it had been referring to hansel it would say "its me against you and dad, not afraid to punch YOU back" it's not right that neither of them cared to acknowledge each other's problems. but when you've got your own demons to face, its difficult to help others.
@@a9Isi93kw the “coffee and peppermint tea, brewing instructions engraved on leaves, symbols that I can’t read. Seems it’s all written in Chinese. I could use some help translating these.” part just means Hansel’s lonely for me. I don’t think it’s that DEEP
ok but what does that have to do with being lonely other than the song as a whole being about him being lonely, music has alot of symbolism. it CAN be that deep
There's a slightly disturbing factor to this that no one's considered yet. The song begins with Gretel describing her birth. Given the end it might imply she's stuck in an endless loop
Yeah, she describes herself as "I came out of the oven too seasoned!" And at the end she gets into baking, which could be a metaphor for rebirth. Or for a new cycle.
To me, it sounded more like she died and could find peace in death, aka, time alone, since it doesn't sound like she did anything truly awful to warrant punishment like that. The worst she sings about is messing up our day or taking back her things when she's looked down at, while in Hansel's song he straight up wishes she'd died
I like to imagine she isn’t dead, at the end of the song she’s moved to a new town and while the community might think she’s weird looking, she’s perfectly fine living by herself. And she gets her mango smoothie
since hansel and gretel are most likely named after the fairytale of the same name, and hansel mentions getting into candyland at the end of the song, the witches' house/"candyland" is probably symbolic of how they were treated post-mortem. they both only got what they wanted after the end of their life. this may be a bit of a stretch, but the witch in the fairytale tried to stuff hansel with sweets to fatten him up while gretel got barely anything to eat. which pretty much matches up with how hansel was happy to get all the attention he wanted at his funeral while gretel was just happy to finally be left alone. it also explains why gretel references baking so much, since in the fairytale she helped make all the food i believe. edit: gretel also mentions how she "came out of the oven too seasoned," im not entirely sure what that symbolizes but the fairytale gretel *was* supposed to get locked in an oven before she yknow pushed the witch in instead [edited again: misheard lyrics]
it was actually “too seasoned” and yeah, i agree with the comment above it’s probably a birth defect. i also wanna point out how pregnant women sometimes describe babies as “a bun in the oven” so yeah
I ain't your potentials issue as vertigo like she went out hiking one day she came home and her skin suddenly starts changing colors suddenly blocks or brown spots sprinkle her skin and she doesn't know what's going on she's like no I didn't not touch poison ivy but the person's like what is this then
You know what’s interesting. More people like Hansel over Gretel. That kinda matches their songs, Hansel gets his popularity, and Gretel gets to enjoy being alone.
id like to point out the way hansel and gretel are voiced!! gretel seems to have a soft, feminine voice. you could even describe it as whiny by the way she pronounces things (ex: "ward off great evil" and "it shouldnt be you the one who's feeling bad"). she has a couple of voice cracks. in certain spots, you can even hear her voice tremble. there's also several moments where her pitch gets higher and/or her voice gets softer ("i in fact, in light of this, became your painting canvas") and it takes her a couple of moments to get back to her regular tone. hansel sounds more like sodikken's usual singing style, but he cuts himself off more (like how he starts singing the next line while he's singing "or maybe three") and uses a warbly voice much more often than other songs. in the verse about his sister, he pronounces his lines with a hiss. his voice also has this certain "spiral"-y quality to it where his pitch sounds completely uncontrolled that i dont think any other songs have. i dont know if this was intentional or not, but the siblings actually start to sound like each other during specific parts of their song. hansel's voice gets softer and/or higher when he admits in a straightforward manner how lonely or depressed he feels ("i bought you flowers, you threw them away" / "i like bike riding, it *can* be exciting..." / "how i long for your arms again" / "all this could have been avoided, all i wanted was to talk"). however, he doesn't do this very often. on the other hand, gretel gains a warbly, unconyrolled tone several times in her song. this mostly happens when it seems like she's either mocking someone who insulted her or being aggressive ("worse than that, i'll steal all the chocolate out of all your chocolate chip cookies! purposefully misplace your keys, be the reason why you sneeze..." / "for someone who looks like an animal, i'm rather picky" / "you, though, had no problem tearing life and limb from ted and jim"). these are all details that i thought were pretty neat :]
Oh yeahhhh I didn't even notice how they start to sound like each other in certain parts Also I think Hansel cutting himself off can be showing how his spiral is getting worse during the course of the song
Don’t know if this is intentional or not but I enjoy how the siblings animations are in opposite directions, so if you put them side by side they’d be walking away from each other kind of symbolizing their bad relationship.
@@imacardboardbox But if you build a time machine and move a chair the songs will be released in a different order and they will walk towards each other
I'm wondering if Gretel has neurofibromatosis. It's basically a disorder where blister-like tumors can grow all over ones body. If you look up some pictures on google, you'll know what I'm talking about. Maybe there was a mutation in her genes where she turned out like that, and unfortunately, she didn't have the right people around her to help. Instead, they just ridiculed her and abused her.
Really? I was thinking she had epidermolysis bullosa, which is usually called having "butterfly skin" because of how fragile the skin is, which would explain the butterfly imagery in the video and how she says "all you touch will get marked up ." It also would explain how she couldn't eat the ice, as people with that condition can't really eat as even the inside of their esophagus will blister.
Honely their mention of arteries made it sound like some type of blood vessel tumor, like hemangiomas or maybe nevus flammeus (port wine stains). Blood vessels overgrow under your skin, it often covers a good part of your face making it look asymmetrical and basically turns your skin purple, something that's referenced in the drawings for this video other than the lyrics. It's instantly recognizable when you see someone with this birth condition, sometimes surgery can do a lot. I vividly remember as a kid going on a school trip and seeing this physics researcher with a mark on half of his face and one of his hands, ALL THE WHILE showing us how a Geiger counter worked with an open alpha particle source! (don't worry he explained to us why that was safe); on one hand every kid immediately thought that must have been the result of some nuclear accident (it wasn't, it's a birth condition, thanks mom for being a great doctor), but on the others it showed us how people can still live a normal life and pursue a carrer nevertheless.
@@cryptid4131 and also she says "i'd like to watch a movie without everyone and the sun telling me i look dumb." apparently epidermolysis bullosa can be easily triggered by the sun, so it could be a reference to that as well.
my theory is that the fade implies their satisfaction/end of suffering, and that gretel didn’t actually die. hanzel’s fade was when his funeral was sung about, and he finally got the attention he wanted. however, gretel’s supposed death cause, the knife attack didn’t cause the fade. instead, she faded at the “looks can’t kill but they can get you disowned” lyric. i’m assuming she got disowned by her parents and finally found the peace and quiet she wanted by living by herself and away from society. edit: i just realized she also says “just kidding you’re probably walking the other way” after talking about the knife attack, so it didn’t even happen, she was just talking about hypotheticals
Well she said "Looking like it's time for me to fly away, maybe I'll see you another day. Sike you're probably going the other way" Implying she died and went to heaven and the person she was talking about (presumably society or the people who bullied her) would go to hell.
@@deflowerdefile she changed tone when saying “you’re probably walking the other way”, i took that as it being a separate comment from the sentence before. it’s interesting seeing how others interpret this though!
@@fricc_picc She changes her tone because she said "sike!" (correctly spelled "psych") which is a word literally ONLY used to say "tricked you!" or "actually...!" She then proceeds to say "you're probably GOING the other way, so send a smother to my brother when ya see him, okay?" She's talking about hell. Hansel, her brother, is dead and in Hell. The term of "say hello to [person speaker dislikes] when you get to Hell" is extremely common, along with the "psych" thing.
@@LiquidCephalosporins Hansel is not alive in this song, or at least by the point Gretel is singing about stabbing. She's saying Hansel is in Hell and the person that stabbed her should smother him for her when they get there because she hates him so much. Gretel's song also comes after Hansel's, and it's already been established the order matters.
Fun fact I noticed: The backgrounds of each of the songs (Hansel and Gretel) both relate to what each character wanted to get. Hansel's background has 2 stars, and he wanted attention from everyone. And, in Gretel's, it's a heart, because all she wanted was for people to love/like or just to stop hating/harrassing/judging her overall. This is actually a pretty nice detail and shows how much Soddikken plans out their stuff.
hansel mentions a blister on gretel's face. i'm thinking she might have had bad acne or a skin condition. i kinda personally have really bad acne that i was on medication for.
she’s described to have spots all over that look like raisins/dried apricots in the song, and on her little monster she has spots, so maybe some sort of skin condition that gives her blister-ish brown spots?
Also, not sure if it’s about being punched or something else, but one of the lines says something along the lines of “With red gloves, all you touch, gets marked up”
An extroverted person who's ignored, and an introverted person who people can never leave alone. Both miserable and incapable of understanding eachother
I feel like Gretel doesn’t fade out at the part where she’s stabbed because she doesn’t die. She lived and took the guy who stabbed her out because she snapped like the straw that broke the camels back. Because she killed a man and lived she was disowned by her family and now she lives her days alone and ignored by everyone for what she’s done happily alone like how she always wanted but it doesn’t take away the pain of what led her there. Aka this isn’t how I planned my life turning out but hey at least I’m somewhat happy to finally not be stared at. Edit: I realized also that the characters gretel and Hansel are drawn as the way they view themselves. Gretel views herself as some mythical unicorn, griffin goblin monster so that’s what she looks like and she’s bright and colorful so there isn’t a way to not notice her which is how she feels about her skin condition. Hansel is a gross, neutral toned green, sickly looking rat because that’s how he feels about himself. A rodent that is never looked at. Small and insignificant with nothing that makes you want to look at him.
one small thing I noticed is that Gretel seems to find solace in books and fantasy, after all fictional characters can't be mean to her, and are willing to keep her company, they won't judge her, ridicule her, or make false promises
I don't think I've ever been hyped for a voice crack like the one at 3:14 in my entire life. Also the following throat clearing on the start of the next line is kindof endearing, like it tells a little story.
@@doloresmadrigal6906 in the middle of has when she says "has dropped the ball." Then at the start of the next like she clears her throat like something's still in her throat.
I like how the background can be interpreted as what they wanted. You could argue that Gretel's heart represents her wish for love and Hansel's star represents his wish for attention. I love much work sodikken put into this and all of their music :)
Hansle: "a whole garden of flowers and my name etched on a rock. All of this could of been avoided all i wanted was to talk" Gretel: "so give a smother to my brother if you see him, ok? " That was the 1st thing i noticed and the 2nd is They both mention cheese.
I mean there was the line that was "when I say green you think of cheese but in my mind I'm picturing some fresh tangerines" which can easily be assumed that she's talking about Hansel
Just a quick mention: The Clown Character of People Eater has a similar coloring style with Gretel, including the purple area, a green part, and yellow skin; they also have a similar tail color code. That’s kinda fun.
That's what I was thinking too, and it fits in with the section where Gretel talks about how "eating my own kind is not in my beliefs" (since, people eater) which could be a metaphor for how she doesn't like to be mean to people, despite her upbringing and everyone surrounding her always abusing or ridiculing her
I'm not sure if the knife attack is what killed her, overexposure, or taking her life using a mango pit (cyanide). Either way, after listening to Hansel, I was just waiting for the grim twist. And to add, great song!!!
(In response to everyone saying it was definitely the knife) Well yeah but I myself was confused on how she died because in Hansel’s song he began to face away when he talked about his death, whereas she faded away after the knife talk not during. It could just be because they were supposed to fade away at the end of the song and not necessarily when they speak about their death, but I do wonder that if it was the knife attack why she continued to mention mangos n all that. As well if it was the mango pit that killed her what purpose speaking of the knife attack was about. Just some stuff I was thinking about lol :)
Here's an interesting little motif I noticed: In Gretel's song, she says this: "When I say green, you think of cheese, but in my mind I'm picturing fresh tangerines". The cheese could represent death and decay, whereas the fresh tangerines could represent life and hope. In Hansel's song, he mentions "green alligators" (wishing they had eaten Gretel) and a "green luscious island" (not sure about this one). He also says "just like flies are drawn to the rotting cheese, are sadists attracted to misery, in this case it's another word for me". Seeing as Gretel explicitly says in her song "no, I'm not a masochist" and sadism and masochism go hand in hand, I think this implies Hansel sees himself as a masochist and sees Gretel as a sadist, who enjoys watching him suffer. This is all probably a bit of a stretch, but I figured I'd share it anyway! Edit: A couple of things I missed-- In one line, Hansel quite literally says "though pain's rather tasty." How did I miss that? Green is the color of envy. Gretel's hat is green, and Hansel's fur is green as well. In the beginning of Gretel's song, it sounds like she's playing pretend, maybe as a child, or reflecting how her song sounds very childish. Is Hansel the older brother? It sounds like they used to get along, too: "will you guide me?" Says Gretel, and Hansel says "yes, of course." But also, she says "was I born to be tortured?" As she says this, a smaller, quieter voice sings along to this. Definitely Hansel! There's so much more I could speculate and theorize on, but I'm trying to keep this comment focused to prevent it becoming too long and unreadable. Feel free to add your ideas in the replies :) (Copied from my comment on Hansel)
Wait there's a second voice on the "was i born to be tortured" line?! **replays that part at max possible volume** I've listened to this song like 50 times! How did i miss that!?!
The beginning I think she is talking about her birth because she says she is approaching a door. she also said "I'll burst open the seams with you standing next to me" I think this is her being born (ew) followed by her describing her condition, her being born being the first time it was seen. I also think this song is sung to her mom.
Very interesting! When I thought about the line in Gretel about others thinking of cheese but her thinking of specifically *unripe* tangerines, I figured it might be significant that cheese is aged and the oranges aren't yet mature. I noticed if you take the lyrics literally a lot of them seem to allude to Gretel being some kind of witch that just refuses to eat people, and the witch from the Hansel and Gretel story does eat kids, humans that aren't yet mature.

Something I noticed! In Hansel's song, he says "Flies attracted to the rotting cheese." Here, Gretel says "When i say green you think of cheese." Small thing, doesn't seem even significant, but i thought it'd be something to point out.
Another fun detail is that in Hansel’s animation, the background is a star, that shows his desire to be liked and remembered, like a movie star or celebrity. Meanwhile Gretel has a heart, that shows that she wants to be loved regardless of her condition.
I kind of find it interesting almost nobody's talking about this line from Gretel's song: "Happen to wanna get hurt badly? Then go ahead and try messing with me." I think what Gretel is saying is that she knows Hansel is purposefully hurting himself, and Gretel thinks it's stupid that Hansel is reacting like this. I have a feeling Gretel also implies she would purposefully hurt Hansel if she could, but she doesn't because she doesn't want to hurt Hansel even more.
The songs combined are about two siblings: Hansel and Gretel. Gretel was born with some sort of birth defect, giving her boils or spots on her skin, leading for her getting attention from her parents and those around her-although the attention was negative. Very negative. All she wanted was to be by herself and she hated the attention that she got,but her brother saw it a different way. He wanted what she had-even though it made her life hell it was better than how he was ignored by everyone (in his eyes at least) He started pulling stunts (like playing with fire, hurting himself) and finally riding his bike off a cliff in the hopes that even if he survived he’d get the same attention his sister got. Of course his family was very distraught at this. Based on some hints they (their parents) could’ve disowned Gretel, and she ended up getting attacked and killed by a man in an alley who mistook her for an animal. It honestly seems like both of them went to heaven, and are singing the song about their lives. Some lyrics reference lyrics in other songs, possibly representing them arguing with each other about how neither of them actually went to hell. In the end though, both of them only got what they truly wanted after their deaths.
I noticed how the Hansel song gets more attention, also connecting with "hey go and give my brother attention" and the amount of people that actually go to listen to that song makes it seem almost intentional, whereas, the Gretel song is hardly noticed or used by few, which is something very really cool!
I love the way Hansel and Gretel's songs are perceived by everyone. I like to think that Hansel's song is more popular because he made it for everyone to see, while Gretel just made her song for herself. Either way, both these songs are so damn heavy and *very* well-made.
I love how when gretel says "if you see him, okay?" when talking about Hansel, the melody switches for a second, referencing Hansel's song. That tiny detail is so amazing and I'm surprised I don't see more people talking about it!
Something i realised about Hansel and Gretel, is that Gretels voice gets more rude and arrogant when she’s upset and Hansel’s voice becomes softer and higher. Maybe that symbolises how Hansel is seen as mentally ill and unstable, and Gretel is seen as weak and defenceless when in the inside they are the opposite. (It even says “there’s a part of me that’s appealingly sweet, I’m sure you’d agree if you got to know me” in Hansel’s song and “it’s me against you and dad, not afraid to punch him back” in Gretels song.)
I like to see Hansel and Gretel as a kind of extrovert vs. introvert kind of thing. Hansel's an extrovert that wants to be noticed and be the center of attention, but nobody seems to bat an eye. Gretel's an introvert that wants to live quietly and peacefully, alone, but due to people bullying her and bothering her because of her looks, she can't seem to get that. It's like poetry, they rhyme.
something i noticed when i downloaded the songs is that on the album cover for the two songs show the characters shoved into like normal clothing in a way they don’t fit, which feels like it’s kind of a metaphor for there parents trying to make them look normal while both kids are clearly suffering from a lot of stuff? it might also just be an aesthetic choice but idk
Hansel is stuck in the stomach of a suit like he's been eaten (if you interpret Hansel literally and align it with the Hansel and Gretel story it's implied he was eaten by the witch), and Gretel is escaping her dress, ripping through it with her tongue in the air (if you take Gretel literally she says her spots are from being cooked wrong and was unfit to eat, implying the witch released her or she escaped, and throughout the rest of the song there are allusions that she has become a witch, just one that refuses to eat people, but she feels the need to justify this by saying she's on a diet and it's against her beliefs, like she's tempted to)
(I don't know if he is, but I'm pretty sure) People eater is also a shapeshifter, seeing as he changed shape throughout the video. He could be mixing forms he's seen before, maybe he's seen Gretel.
I kinda get the theory that Gretel died by knife attack but when looking at Hansel's song, when he talks about his death his character slowly fades out. With Gretel with doesn't happen until around 6:25. Plus at the end of the song she talks about blending up a mango (which I've seen some people relate to suicide) and being back home (afterlife?? Idk). Either way this song is boppin'
I think that she had a slow death, I mean no one dies that fast after getting stabbed by a knife unless its fatal..? Also in Hansel's song it was referenced that he died having skin and bones on the walls. So his death was kind of immediate. Thats just my take on what you said.
I'm so bloody thankfull for finding you through lovely Loren! This music I feel really close too... The song brings back strange nostalgia that I cant look away from
I live how this whole song is not dumping on herself for being the way she is, she just says "yea I'm ugly so what". But deep down she still can't get over the idea of her looks. Love your songs and stories.
Your songs give me a strange nostalgic feeling of depression, it feeds into my most dark desires and thoughts and honestly, I'm ok with it I'm ok with myself, even if my situation isn't the best, I always comfort myself by saying I survived worse, I am thankful I wasn't broken in the way up and had a couple of helping hands
Okay but guys let's not ignore the fact that it's been over a month and there's only 1 dislike, this shows how wonderful Sodikken is at making music; they're really talented as well! I'm glad mostly everyone likes their music or at least this masterpiece!💞
Alright, I've listened to both songs a lot of times, I've read the original tale, I've analized the designs of the siblings and there goes some details that a o lot of people are missing for their theories (I won't be doing one myself) 1. There is no evidence that they are twins, so I think the atention seeking from Hänsel would be a major efect of having a little sister with so many needs. 2. There wasn't any evidence or metaphor of Gretel dying, so I don't think that them disapearing from the video means death but the reaching of what they want. 3. In the original tale the witch was actually their mother, so I believe that they're actually singing to her. This explains the lyric "just me vs you and dad" and the "How I long for your arms again" in Hänsel's song. 4. Gretel's song happens just after Hänsel's and that's why she doesn't mention him that much. 5. Both siblings were conscious about each others problems, dreams and point of view but always thought that they were having the worst time like It was a game of who is suffering more. (I wish everything was understandable, I'm sorry for the gramatical fails I'm hispanic)
3:00 ~ 3:09 Gretel might have Epidermolysis Bullosa (butterfly skin), in which blister-like tumors grow everywhere and even in the lining of the esophagus. Which explains why she can’t eat the ice, and also the fact that she thinks inner peace tastes like artificial cherry or ice cream. She doesn’t even know what those taste like, she only knows they’re sweet.
smth about the line " my dear friends , i have made it home - rewarded with time alone " is just deeply saddening to me and i have no idea why. great song
Whe gretel said 'come one come all,the circus clown has dropped the ball.' I feel like she was trying to get hansel attention but failed. That "circus clown" was hansel.
I noticed something (its pretty small but its a nice addition whether on purpose or not) When Hansel is describing how he died, he faded at the same time. Gretel didn't fade out until a little bit AFTER she explained what killed her. Personally, I think this is just saying that Hansel died instantly while Gretel died slowly. Hansel would have preferred a slow death considering up that would've drawn a bit of attention to him while he was still alive and Gretel would've preferred an instant death as that means she would have gotten her time alone sooner.
Why dies noone seem to mention that she says "Give a smother to my brother when you see him, okay?" At around 5:51 People make it put like Gretal hates Hansel just as much as he hates her, but If 'Smother' is being used in the more attention giving term then she definitely doesnt hate him that much if she had told people to give him some attention.
I think otherwise. If the attention she is getting is bullying and abuse while Hansel is practically begging for the attention Gretel is having, she is basically wishing that the bullying transferred to him, either so he would feel the pain she's feeling or so she would be able to live peacefully while Hansel gets exactly what he asked for, and not in good intentions too. Gretel is most likely pissed that Hansel is telling her(through his lyrics) that she should feel lucky
Besides, if you listen to the lyrics, 5:42 she's saying after she got stabbed she's flying away(going to heaven) 5:49 and then saying the person she's talking to is probably going the other way(hell) and to smother her brother when they see him, she's picturing her brother in hell. She hates him that much
@@chaoticoofhead9543 That part probably refers to the attention that she gets since "Was I born to be tortured?" is said immediately after, referring to the way she looks.
i like how pretty her and her brother are, they have amazing and sad characters/stories and i think that makes them more unique than a lot of characters people make!
Everyone is writing observations on both Hansel and Gretel so I thought Id give my own. Hansel is the one with little to no attention on him as said in his song Gretel is the one with more attention. Notice how Hansels song is around 5 minutes and Gretels is 7 minutes.
Hansel only got so much attention because of the lyrics "Whole garden of flowers and my name etched on a rock" Which was a trending sound on tiktok and UA-cam so I think that's why.
some things i noticed after listening to both this, and hansel for quite literally hours each: Her and Hansel have VERY similar colour palettes expect Gretels colours are lighter Hansel is dead in this song, and Gretel probably didn't like him or atleast knew he was jealous of her by implying he went to hell. 5:32 Theyre walking away one another. showing again that they didn't like or care for each other at all. They resented each other When they died and faded away Hansel disappeared WAY quicker than Gretel. Its probably showing that how soon people forgot about them. way more people would remember Gretel than to Hansel. Gretel sings before Hansel does, once again showing that more people paid attention to Gretel. In Hansels song he starts off with "I like bike riding it's oh so exiting. much better than fighting will all who come near me. Which is referencing Gretel who fights back. I think Gretel survived the self defense because she doesnt start to fade until 6:24 In conclusion. Both songs are bangers and sodikken is a fantastic artist :)
Gretel says the line where it mentions her brother and it finishes at around 5:56. Hansels song is 5 minutes and 56 seconds. No one gave Hansel a smother(or whatever that is idfk) because when Gretel said that his song finished and that he's already dead... While Hansels song mentions his sister at the beginning, however he goes on and on about her getting pity Hansel thinks that Gretel's attention is getting pitied but actually it's the opposite, while Gretel thinks Hansel didn't get attention at all while he gets lots of attention in the form of a 'party' for his funeral
Hey guys i kinda have something to say We can see that after what could be the knife attack, Gretel starts talking about having to leave, and just after a little speech that is probably her own internal soliloquy this time, Pass the line: "Thanks for the pizza, I'll take a mango, blend it up real nice and slow" followed by: "My dear friends I have made it home, rewarded with time alone" My theory here is that after she was probably clumsily attacked by someone and ran away, so she decided to just go home, while she was bleeding out she was thinking about everything, Everything she never said, about her brother, about where he would go and where she would go. Not happy, but not sad or scared either, resigned.. indifferent. Finally with this the song ends on a gentler note that could represent that he finally had what she needed, peace and quiet. And better yet, it seems that she died with positive feelings for her brother and a less terrible vision of her, more like she disconnected from the idea of being a monster and went more to the deformed being. And when she finally got home, with the strength she had left, probably covered in blood, anyway, She made that smoothie she wanted so much, sat at home and let herself die with a smile in her lips, because her death was everything she'd ever wanted. This song is so god dang it
At 2:15 I think she’s talking about Hansel, especially because in Hansel’s song there’s a lyric that says “just red pain? Babe this ain’t pretend” and judging by the lyric “if you see my brother give him a smother” hansel dies before the end of gretel’s song
I love that you posted Gretel first with the description that she's your second full length, while Hansel came second even though he was your first full song. Gretel coming first even to the viewers/listeners/subscribers. It's a really cool detail !!
Ok so new theory: We already know that she suffers from some sort of acne, as referring to when she says "What look like raisins are plastered on my skin" At 4:05 she states about the red glove and in which she becomes a canvas, which I think is supposed to go together with Hansel's response to it where he says "Just red paint? Babe, this ain't pretend." Which either means that they fought a lot about Hansel's "stunts" or that she is beaten by others and he slowly kills himself for attention. At 4:21 to 4:40 Gretal starts talking about fighting back, and first I think it with Hansel and their father, and then doing things to annoy people but it gets worse, saying to steal and misplace your stuff, and then gossiping. Then there's the part where she gets stabbed, I don't think she died as it doesn't fade out like Hansel's but I think she kills the man out of her own self defense or just because she's angry and can't think straight as she well, was stabbed. And by her being killed it would cause a bigger scene as she was already asked to be on the news and other things and usually when people who are seen or people know about them, they are more likely to show up on the news and so by killing this random man there's less attention. This she kinda talks about when she says she doesn't eat meat and that he'll see her brother in the underworld. And then she says that "eating my own kind is against my beliefs." Then she makes scones/biscuits or some type of food, I think made out of the man. And tries to give them out, but no one will take them as either they look gross or they just don't want them. But lastly by saying that looks don't kill but get her disowned is what I happened to her . She was disowned because she looked worse than before. Maybe the man had stabbed her more than once, and maybe hit her face. Lastly, I can't fully understand the meaning of the last part. In Hansel's he disappears first and then it shows the aftermath of his death. But for Gretel she disappears at around 6:50 and it goes into that she's made it home and has friends but she also gets her alone time. I can't tell if she's died, in prison or in hiding, (as I think she killed the man and is either killing more or trying to atone in silence) or she's dead. Though she could be referring to other people and not necessarily be with them. This is just my theory though and won't make the most sense to everyone so if you need clarifying, just ask.
When she says "I've become your painting canvas"i think actually she went to get surgery to get rid of her skin condition but the surgery went wrong and people (her dad, hansel etc)made fun of her, angering her and like you said killing the man,I also think that she ended up in a relationship but not knowing how to express love with her whole childhood thing shes wasting her partners time and hiding their stuff and stealing things then her partner breaks up with her and now she has been "rewarded" for her actions with time alone
Ive mentioned this before in another comment i think but I think she didnt dissapear right away because she stayed in peoples minds longer than hansel did ! She had a mini legacy after dying/dissapearing/etc. But hansel was quickly forgotten
I don't know if this matters, but the stencil/shape in the paper for Hansel is a star and Gretel's is a heart. I wonder if that means that while Hansel wishes for the stardom Gretel gets, Gretel just wants love.
My theory is in the line "the circus clown has dropped the ball" gretel actually meant hansel's death so she prob was still around after Hansel's death before she got disowned by their parents later in the song in the line "looks couldn't kill, but it can get you disowned" so in the end of the song where she said "my dear friends i have made it home" she meant she got a place to stay far away where ppl didnt bother her
Yh she hints that he’s dead another time when she says “looks like it’s time for me to fly away, maybe I’ll see you another day, spike. You’re probably going the other way, so give a smother to my brother when you see him, ok”. Probably referring to her going to heaven and him being sent to hell when he died.
Something I wanted to mention Hansel adorns himself in a jester outfit while Gretel just wears a simple beanie hat Gretel just wants to appear average, someone people wouldn’t think twice about Hansel wants to be noticed, even if he will be, like Gretel, be ridiculed
I can't believe nobody noticed gretel is constantly biting her tongue throughout the video on her animation and metaphorically because of all the mistreatment and harassment for no reason would definitely make her wanna say some things to people who unreasonably hate her. This happens until she dies and speaks much more of her mind than just asking why this is happening to her. I flipping love how much detail sodikken puts into their art, and i am super excited for the show they're making.

a girl who has low confidence, but gets so much attention vs her brother who would kill to be loved as much as her. this dynamic is relatable in a way.
can we take a moment to appreciate how good it sounded when they said "has dropped the ball" at 3:14 like it's so pleasing to hear everything I listen to this song
“happen to want to get hurt badly? then go ahead and try messing with me” i feel like something gretel told hansel, since in his song he sang about sh and also his own death because of depression, and also because gretel always felt like people harmed her just because of her looks and she never got to feel peaceful for the insecurities people inflicted in not only her, but also hansel i feel so bad for both of them bc one died and celebrated his death for people finally gave him attention but gretel felt like she might explode with the pressure since she felt that everything, even the air, was telling her she was bad looking 😭😭😭
Theory: The creatures in Hansel/Gretel's music videos are not them, they're just the creatures that symbolize their personalities/they way they are the creature in Gretel's MV has eyes on it's tongue, symbolizing that Gretel sees more than she speaks. possibly a hint of verbal abuse/ or just emotional abuse in general and possibly symbolizing that gretel has witnessed many strange/scary things in her life, but had yet to tell anyone about it. (was either threatened not to tell anyone or can't speak up due to the constant bullying) Explaining: "you though, had no problem tearing life and limb from ted and jim so.."
@@Misscuddles326 He’s a rat with wings. Rats are typically hated and not wanted around. ‘Rat with wings’ is also a typical nickname for a pidgeon, a type of creature that is overlooked and hated even though they are very sweet creatures. (I’m not good at theorizing so this is the best I got lmao)
I think the “its me against you and dad” the You is refering to the brother hinted by the “happen to want to get hurt badly” which in the song, is what he does
Something I realized while listening to Hansel and Grettle back to back. She just wants to be left alone, but in Hansel’s song, he dedicates two full verses to her right off the bat. Meanwhile, all Hansel wants is attention, and Grettle only gives him mention in a single line that sounds sort of like an afterthought. It feels like it’s showing the toxicity of their relationship and I really love that attention to detail
II'm not sure if anybody has commented this already but in Hansel's song, I think the line "Much better than fighting with who come near me" matches well with 4:22 - 4:38 because Gretel is singing about fighting people if they mess with her. So I'm guessing that Hansel was making a passive-aggressive about Gretel, and when I picture that in my head I imagine that while Hansel is singing that line he's giving Gretel a side eye.
It’s interesting how in the song as others have noted, Gretel barely mentions Hansel, but she does wish he could get attention. She tells the listener to give her brother some love and affection when you see next him. No matter what, she did notice him and how he felt.
EVERY SINGLE line similarity I found (I'm not saying they are all directed towards each other just that they have similar phrases or words) GRETEL: "So you don't believe me?" HANSEL:"Maybe you would believe me then!" GRETEL:"Wish I did but I don't believe him" GRETEL: "They forced me to eat ice" HANSEL: "a hot spring with its water frozen over" GRETEL: "Why would I enjoy this? No I'm not a masochist" HANSEL: "pains rather tasty" GRETEL: "Why would I ever come out of hiding?" HANSEL: "I'm through with hiding" GRETEL: "With red gloves all you touch certainly will get marked up. I infact in light of this became your painting canvas" HANSEL: "just red paint? babe this ain't pretend!" GRETEL: "When I say green you think of cheese" HANSEL: "as flies are drawn to the rotting cheese" GRETEL: "it's not the affect of poison ivy" HANSEL: "instructions engraved on leaves" GRETEL: "I won't play your game" HANSEL: "with myself I must play in this game of charades" GRETEL: "He'll take out a knife" HANSEL: "I'm juggling knives" GRETEL: "on my diet I don't eat meat" HANSEL: "before I became a piece of meat" HANSEL: "you should be smiling" GRETEL: "I'll fake a smile" HANSEL: "if you just give me your time" GRETEL: "wasted all your day" FOOD (20 mentions in total): rasins Coffee meat mango/mango smoothie peppermint tea Dried apricots cherry Casserole scones chocolate chip cookies ice cream cheese tangerines pizza flavoring/seasoning pie
"Why would I enjoy this? No I'm not a masochist." kind of sounds like her response to Hansel, since in his song he says how Gretel is lucky getting so much attention.
Thats.... a good theory actually 👌
My thoughts too, she seems to know Hansel is jealous, and maybe he’s even told her that
Masochism is enjoying suffering, I’m pretty sure. So I think it’s more Hansel saying she hates that
Masochism is enjoying suffering, I’m pretty sure. So I think it’s more Hansel saying all this is hell to her.
I really like that
Notable is the presence of Circus references in this song too, but only in a purely negative light.
Furthermore, we can deduce that Gretel really likes sweets and Hansel likes nature from the metaphors that each one uses in their song.
does it taste like artificial cherry or ice cream?
LMAO
My own theory of hansel and gretel is:
Gretel has been ridiculed and bullied all her life being "ugly" seemingly from an condition she cannot control.

Yeah. She understood that all her brother wanted was attention, and envied her for getting attention, even if it was negative. They obviously didn't have a good relationship, but she still wants the best for her brother now that they're both dead.

They both started with something they don't want, and ending with something they wanted

the sadness of both Hansel and gretel could have been avoided by a strong sibling dynamic.
Fr all their problems could have been solved by just being nicer to one another 😭
“All of this could’ve have been avoided, all I wanted was to talk.”
*Theory for the story/relationship of these two siblings WARNING: it's kinda long :p*
I have a theory that both Hansel and Gretel are partially either talking directly to or at least responding to each other within their songs.
One thing I find interesting that I've noticed is that there seems to be somewhat of a theme of "believing" that both of them sing about (Gretel more so than Hansel I think, but still) with which they seem to be directly addressing or referncing the other.
Hansel: "I might lose me a leg or head, maybe you would believe me then"
Gretel: "So you don't believe me, well I'll make it easy.." "wish I did but I don't believe him" "All I want is a quiet evening, and now you're telling me that my dream is not one worth believing in?"
It really feels like an argument theare having, maybe resemlbing confrontations they had with each other while alive. The point being argued seems to be who has it "worse" (or maybe even in general, not believing the other had it bad at all, since it seems like both of them desired what the other had), probably incited by Hansel being somewhat like "You should be grateful to have all this attention on you. I wish I had your life. Getting negative attention is at least better than being forgotten by everyone"
with Gretel countering in some way that "This is isn't something anyone would ever wish for. Nobody's even nice to me, I wish I could just be let alone by everyone"
(Also though not literally involving the word "believe" I would also still group in here the line from Hansel where he goes "That there's my sister, that big facial blister, yeah you couldn't miss her. Her pity getting scheme" which I'd say implies that he believes she's actually doing this on purpose and not believing that she's actually in pain)
In general, Gretel's song to me seems like she's trying to defend or explain herself to her brother, especially those allegations of her not being in pain, doing things on purpose and generally the envy he feels towards her.
"It's not the effect of poison ivy, I go hiking carefully" and "Not my fault my body's spots resemble dried apricots" both possibly being a way for her to express "I'm not doing this on purpose, there's no "scheme". I didn't choose this, why would anybody ever choose this?"
Also with "hate my buds, just because, there's not enough room for us" and "It shouldn't be you, the one who's feeling bad, not with all your intact arteries" I think she is again addressing Hansel directly.
Babe, this ain't pretend" and basically being her not taking him seriously in his endeavors, which I still think can be true but Gretel's line also could be a metaphor for physical abuse (one that I heard used quite a number of times before)
But at the same time it could just be symbolizing how Hansel in his head created his own narrative of her being an "attention seeker" and demonizing her.
Possibly her disappearence had somewhat something to do with Gretels condition, leading their father to let out his anger and frustation about it on Gretel in forms of verbal/physical abuse and then Hansel, with his distorted view of reality, interpreting that, as well as part of the "attention he never got"
In conclusion, they both hate each other deeply and wish only the worst for the other.
You, though, had no problem tearing life and limb from limb from Ted and Jim so
Made of stone your heart must be"...
Awful.
@@redcraddle1515 no, people eater has nothing to do with hansel or gretel. hansel didn't get attention because of gretel, but also because he was never taught how to properly interact with other people
"coffee and peppermint tea, brewing instructions engraved on leaves" coffee doesnt have leaves, which symbolizes hansel , peppermint tea has leaves so it can be brewed (other people have been taught how to properly interact with one another , coffee leaves dont have the right materials to be brewed and even if they could it wouldnt taste very good, he cant "brew"(interact) well with other people
"symbols that i cant read" even if he wanted to he cant understand how to interact with others properly
in hansel's song, he says "i THINK i hate her" (referring to gretel) which clearly implies that hansel does not actually hate gretel. he pities himself because no one else will.
that line in gretel's song was likely referring to their father, because it is implied that he's physically abusive "it's me against you and dad not afraid to punch him back", that line didnt apply that hansel ever physically hurt gretel, either. the "you" is clearly referring to hansel, if it had been referring to hansel it would say "its me against you and dad, not afraid to punch YOU back"
it's not right that neither of them cared to acknowledge each other's problems. but when you've got your own demons to face, its difficult to help others.
I think the lyrics “ The circus clown has dropped the ball” is a reference to Hansel’s death
There's a slightly disturbing factor to this that no one's considered yet. The song begins with Gretel describing her birth. Given the end it might imply she's stuck in an endless loop
Amazing theory
It could also just generally be her entering hell
Yeah, she describes herself as "I came out of the oven too seasoned!" And at the end she gets into baking, which could be a metaphor for rebirth. Or for a new cycle.
To me, it sounded more like she died and could find peace in death, aka, time alone, since it doesn't sound like she did anything truly awful to warrant punishment like that. The worst she sings about is messing up our day or taking back her things when she's looked down at, while in Hansel's song he straight up wishes she'd died
Actually, “though I had no problem tearing life and limb from Ted & Jim so” sounds like murder. She probably did worse stuff considering that line.
I like to imagine she isn’t dead, at the end of the song she’s moved to a new town and while the community might think she’s weird looking, she’s perfectly fine living by herself.
And she gets her mango smoothie
And she watches the best movie ever
and her movie
I’m sorry but do you know what the mango smoothie metaphor is 😢
She did say that her brother was going the other way, maybe meaning that she refused to die
@@chickensoup7029no and now im interested
since hansel and gretel are most likely named after the fairytale of the same name, and hansel mentions getting into candyland at the end of the song, the witches' house/"candyland" is probably symbolic of how they were treated post-mortem. they both only got what they wanted after the end of their life.
this may be a bit of a stretch, but the witch in the fairytale tried to stuff hansel with sweets to fatten him up while gretel got barely anything to eat.
which pretty much matches up with how hansel was happy to get all the attention he wanted at his funeral while gretel was just happy to finally be left alone. it also explains why gretel references baking so much, since in the fairytale she helped make all the food i believe.
edit: gretel also mentions how she "came out of the oven too seasoned," im not entirely sure what that symbolizes but the fairytale gretel *was* supposed to get locked in an oven before she

pushed the witch in instead
[edited again: misheard lyrics]
I thought the oven part was perhaps saying how the reason she looks the way she does is due to a problem at birth or was just always like that.
@@noahsheeley2618 that's probably it
it was actually “too seasoned” and yeah, i agree with the comment above it’s probably a birth defect. i also wanna point out how pregnant women sometimes describe babies as “a bun in the oven” so yeah

I noticed that too!!! Thank you for pointing it out :)
I dont know if you mentioned/noticed this, but the line "So give a smother to my brother when you see him, okay?" Is in the tune of hansel's song 👀
I wonder what Ted and Jim I’d referencing
Oh yeahhhh I didn't even notice how they start to sound like each other in certain parts
Also I think Hansel cutting himself off can be showing how his spiral is getting worse during the course of the song
THAT'S SO COOOL OMG UR OBSERVATIONS AWESOME
Don’t know if this is intentional or not but I enjoy how the siblings animations are in opposite directions, so if you put them side by side they’d be walking away from each other kind of symbolizing their bad relationship.

Searched it up.. and yeah I feel bad
Really? I was thinking she had epidermolysis bullosa, which is usually called having "butterfly skin" because of how fragile the skin is, which would explain the butterfly imagery in the video and how she says "all you touch will get marked up
." It also would explain how she couldn't eat the ice, as people with that condition can't really eat as even the inside of their esophagus will blister.
cuz it says, it looks like some rasins has plastered my body so that is related
I actually like this theory

I like how the background can be interpreted as what they wanted. You could argue that Gretel's heart represents her wish for love and Hansel's star represents his wish for attention. I love much work sodikken put into this and all of their music :)
Hansle: "a whole garden of flowers and my name etched on a rock. All of this could of been avoided all i wanted was to talk"
Gretel: "so give a smother to my brother if you see him, ok? "

They both mention cheese.
I mean there was the line that was "when I say green you think of cheese but in my mind I'm picturing some fresh tangerines" which can easily be assumed that she's talking about Hansel
Cheese is good :)

Just a quick mention:
The Clown Character of People Eater has a similar coloring style with Gretel, including the purple area, a green part, and yellow skin; they also have a similar tail color code. That’s kinda fun.
Maybe he is the father??????
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING
That's what I was thinking too, and it fits in with the section where Gretel talks about how "eating my own kind is not in my beliefs" (since, people eater) which could be a metaphor for how she doesn't like to be mean to people, despite her upbringing and everyone surrounding her always abusing or ridiculing her
@@MidnightFr1ght actually, that sounds pretty interesting ngl, not to mention that People Eater sounds somewhat familiar to Hansel
If that’s the case, who’s the mom?
I'm not sure if the knife attack is what killed her, overexposure, or taking her life using a mango pit (cyanide). Either way, after listening to Hansel, I was just waiting for the grim twist. And to add, great song!!!
I think it was the knife
Pretty sure it was the knife attack bro lol
it was the kmife
A man stabbed and killed her. Im pretty sure the mango is instead a metaphor for contemplating suicide but never being able to go through with it
(In response to everyone saying it was definitely the knife) Well yeah but I myself was confused on how she died because in Hansel’s song he began to face away when he talked about his death, whereas she faded away after the knife talk not during.
Here's an interesting little motif I noticed:
In Gretel's song, she says this:
"When I say green, you think of cheese, but in my mind I'm picturing fresh tangerines".
Edit: A couple of things I missed--
In one line, Hansel quite literally says "though pain's rather tasty." How did I miss that?
Feel free to add your ideas in the replies :)
(Copied from my comment on Hansel)
I LOVE THIS THEORY
woahh thats really cool about the green theme

How come they want me on tv?
Am I really that much of a freak?
Why ever would I come out of hiding
When nobodies nice to me?
How could anyone think I'm lovely
When they retch at the sight of me?

the only ones who are kind
Not my fault my body's spots

Maybe more like ice cream
Either way I really could use some flavouring
Come one everybody, come one come all
The circus clown has dropped the ball
HOW ABOUT WE GIVE HER A FACE FULL OF PIE
For some reason, in return, you'd still expect a smile
And, whenever you get mad

If you look like me, don't go out at night
To a man on edge, you could give a fright
And in self defence, he'll take out a knife

I interpreted this as “she deserved everything she got” not that she deserved better LOL😭
Then go ahead and try messing with me."
I think what Gretel is saying is that she knows Hansel is purposefully hurting himself, and Gretel thinks it's stupid that Hansel is reacting like this.
He wanted what she had-even though it made her life hell it was better than how he was ignored by everyone (in his eyes at least)
He started pulling stunts (like playing with fire, hurting himself) and finally riding his bike off a cliff in the hopes that even if he survived he’d get the same attention his sister got.
I noticed how the Hansel song gets more attention, also connecting with "hey go and give my brother attention"
and the amount of people that actually go to listen to that song makes it seem almost intentional, whereas, the Gretel song is hardly noticed or used by few, which is something very really cool!
I love the way Hansel and Gretel's songs are perceived by everyone. I like to think that Hansel's song is more popular because he made it for everyone to see, while Gretel just made her song for herself. Either way, both these songs are so damn heavy and *very* well-made.
"Why would i ever come out of hiding" vs hansel's "i know it might seem crazy but im going out of hiding" kinda seems like an argument
Hansel is stuck in the stomach of a suit like he's been eaten (if you interpret Hansel literally and align it with the Hansel and Gretel story it's implied he was eaten by the witch), and Gretel is escaping her dress, ripping through it with her tongue in the air (if you take Gretel literally she says her spots are from being cooked wrong and was unfit to eat, implying the witch released her or she escaped, and throughout the rest of the song there are allusions that she has become a witch, just one that refuses to eat people, but she feels the need to justify this by saying she's on a diet and it's against her beliefs, like she's tempted to)
The fact you can hear the character of gretel development by how more aggressive and somewhat sassy the lyrics gets throughout the song
(I don't know if he is, but I'm pretty sure) People eater is also a shapeshifter, seeing as he changed shape throughout the video. He could be mixing forms he's seen before, maybe he's seen Gretel.
Hansel wants what Gretel has and Gretel wants what Hansel has. Great writing.
She got that mango smoothie, and maybe she's watching the movie she wanted.
Some other theorist in the comments mentioned that the mango smoothie might be cynaide so,maybe?
I think that she had a slow death, I mean no one dies that fast after getting stabbed by a knife unless its fatal..? Also in Hansel's song it was referenced that he died having skin and bones on the walls. So his death was kind of immediate. Thats just my take on what you said.
I thought maybe the stab was her last straw that lead to her spiraling into finally ending herself

Alright, I've listened to both songs a lot of times, I've read the original tale, I've analized the designs of the siblings and there goes some details that a o lot of people are missing for their theories (I won't be doing one myself)
(I wish everything was understandable, I'm sorry for the gramatical fails I'm hispanic)
i actually like this theory more than most I've seen because it doesn't villainize hansel
3:00 ~ 3:09
Gretel might have Epidermolysis Bullosa (butterfly skin), in which blister-like tumors grow everywhere and even in the lining of the esophagus. Which explains why she can’t eat the ice, and also the fact that she thinks inner peace tastes like artificial cherry or ice cream. She doesn’t even know what those taste like, she only knows they’re sweet.
Kinda cool that they acknowledge Hansel…
Also the fact that Hansel is kinda dead-
I wonder what their relationship was like when they were both alive?
I'm pretty sure Hansel hated Gretel because she got all the attention-
I mean Gretel got disowned and it’s implied that Hansel and their father turned against her
She implied that her brother was in hell, soooo...... Yeah also in Hansel's song he said that he hated her because of all the attention she got.

Sodikken taught me sometimes songs don’t have to rhyme, or even have lyrics that flow together to sound good
can we just appreciate how beautiful the part where it says “the circus clown has dropped the ball” is?
I noticed something (its pretty small but its a nice addition whether on purpose or not)
When Hansel is describing how he died, he faded at the same time.
I think they like what they have, Hansel got immediate attention, and Gretel got to spend her last moments in silence after the attack
but why is she actually pretty though- like she says she ugly in the song, a freak, etc but sodikkens design of her is so well done its crazy-

Gretel: I’m not a masochist
Hansel: pains rather tasty
Why dies noone seem to mention that she says "Give a smother to my brother when you see him, okay?" At around 5:51
People make it put like Gretal hates Hansel just as much as he hates her, but If 'Smother' is being used in the more attention giving term then she definitely doesnt hate him that much if she had told people to give him some attention.
Besides, if you listen to the lyrics,
5:42 she's saying after she got stabbed she's flying away(going to heaven)
5:49 and then saying the person she's talking to is probably going the other way(hell) and to smother her brother when they see him, she's picturing her brother in hell. She hates him that much
@@Lia-td17bruh in the beginning she says she is in hell also when you go to hell you to heaven and then the trap activities and then you fell to hell

Everyone is writing observations on both Hansel and Gretel so I thought Id give my own. Hansel is the one with little to no attention on him as said in his song Gretel is the one with more attention. Notice how Hansels song is around 5 minutes and Gretels is 7 minutes.
gretel deserves just as much love as hansel's song got

literally my favorite lines in this song they sound so cool
some things i noticed after listening to both this, and hansel for quite literally hours each:
Her and Hansel have VERY similar colour palettes expect Gretels colours are lighter
Hansel is dead in this song, and Gretel probably didn't like him or atleast knew he was jealous of her by implying he went to hell. 5:32
Theyre walking away one another. showing again that they didn't like or care for each other at all. They resented each other
When they died and faded away Hansel disappeared WAY quicker than Gretel.
I think Gretel survived the self defense because she doesnt start to fade until 6:24
In conclusion. Both songs are bangers and sodikken is a fantastic artist :)
i think she fought back and killed her killer with her, because she said looking to get hurt then mess with me ill fight back
Gretel says the line where it mentions her brother and it finishes at around 5:56. Hansels song is 5 minutes and 56 seconds. No one gave Hansel a smother(or whatever that is idfk) because when Gretel said that his song finished and that he's already dead...
While Hansels song mentions his sister at the beginning, however he goes on and on about her getting pity
Hansel thinks that Gretel's attention is getting pitied but actually it's the opposite, while Gretel thinks Hansel didn't get attention at all while he gets lots of attention in the form of a 'party' for his funeral
I like the fact she's like aware of her brother's passing, but somewhat ignorant, which is understandable:D
Hey guys i kinda have something to say
We can see that after what could be the knife attack, Gretel starts talking about having to leave, and just after a little speech that is probably her own internal soliloquy this time, Pass the line: "Thanks for the pizza, I'll take a mango, blend it up real nice and slow" followed by: "My dear friends I have made it home, rewarded with time alone"
My theory here is that after she was probably clumsily attacked by someone and ran away, so she decided to just go home, while she was bleeding out she was thinking about everything, Everything she never said, about her brother, about where he would go and where she would go.
This song is so god dang it
There's something I wanna point out, the start it her as a child, and she gets older as the song progresses! :3
At 2:15 I think she’s talking about Hansel, especially because in Hansel’s song there’s a lyric that says “just red pain? Babe this ain’t pretend” and judging by the lyric “if you see my brother give him a smother” hansel dies before the end of gretel’s song
Y e s
I love that you posted Gretel first with the description that she's your second full length, while Hansel came second even though he was your first full song. Gretel coming first even to the viewers/listeners/subscribers. It's a really cool detail !!
god the delivery of "circus clown who has dropped the ball" gives me chills every time-
Ok so new theory:
We already know that she suffers from some sort of acne, as referring to when she says "What look like raisins are plastered on my skin"
At 4:05 she states about the red glove and in which she becomes a canvas, which I think is supposed to go together with Hansel's response to it where he says "Just red paint?
And then she says that "eating my own kind is against my beliefs."
Then she makes scones/biscuits or some type of food, I think made out of the man.
Ive mentioned this before in another comment i think but
I think she didnt dissapear right away because she stayed in peoples minds longer than hansel did ! She had a mini legacy after dying/dissapearing/etc. But hansel was quickly forgotten
i think she killed herself with eating a mango pit
Finally, someone who also thinks Hansel didn’t die accidentally and that he killed himself.
"Just red paint" most likely refers to blood, and people not believing he's doing that to himself
Something I wanted to mention
Hansel adorns himself in a jester outfit while Gretel just wears a simple beanie hat
Gretel just wants to appear average, someone people wouldn’t think twice about
Hansel wants to be noticed, even if he will be, like Gretel, be ridiculed
i haven't seen anyone say this b4 but sodikken sings "the circus clown has dropped the ball" amazingly
Poor Gretel.
She deserves some delicious mango smoothies and awesome movies.

The mango smoothie is a metaphor for suicide.

“happen to want to get hurt badly? then go ahead and try messing with me” i feel like something gretel told hansel, since in his song he sang about sh and also his own death because of depression, and also because gretel always felt like people harmed her just because of her looks and she never got to feel peaceful for the insecurities people inflicted in not only her, but also hansel
i feel so bad for both of them bc one died and celebrated his death for people finally gave him attention but gretel felt like she might explode with the pressure since she felt that everything, even the air, was telling her she was bad looking 😭😭😭
If gretel died by bleeding to death with no one with her then she would get her dream of having a quiet evening.
I want to grab my favorite book and two mango smoothies then sit in a quiet corner with Gretel and read to her.
Theory:
The creatures in Hansel/Gretel's music videos are not them, they're just the creatures that symbolize their personalities/they way they are
the creature in Gretel's MV has eyes on it's tongue, symbolizing that Gretel sees more than she speaks. possibly a hint of verbal abuse/ or just emotional abuse in general
and possibly symbolizing that gretel has witnessed many strange/scary things in her life, but had yet to tell anyone about it. (was either threatened not to tell anyone or can't speak up due to the constant bullying)

It feels like it’s showing the toxicity of their relationship and I really love that attention to detail
this is hypnotic ♥♥♥
Actually, I feel that Gretel, despite not mentioning Hansel, referred to him much more than Hansel referred to Gretel.
