I once landed a Wildcat with a hole in one wing big enough to put my desk through. I've landed with most of my tail shot away and with holes all over it, and bits dripping out of the engine, and the bloody thing still flew. It was incredibly good.'
2 fun facts about this plane: 1. The f4f-2 was actually a biplane, I believe they changed the design either when the navy got angry at them for still sending them a biplane or when they realized it couldn’t match the F2A 2. A lot of pilots preferred this version of the F4F over the 6 50s armed variant because the 2 extra guns added more weight while adding no extra ammo, so the guns ran out faster and the plane was even slower and worse at turning for very little benefit considering the lightly armoured Japanese planes they were fighting.
Correct. However, the admirals correctly preferred the F4F-4 because it had folding wings, allowing the US aircraft carriers to embark twice as many fighters as before (36 instead of 18). 2 F4F-4’s were more useful and efficient in a dogfight than 1 F4F-3, despite the slower climb rate.
A lot of people underestimate the ability of a Wildcat to turnfight, and i think we can blame all the Pacific War documentaries for this. All of them say that compared to Zeroes F4Fs had bad turn rate, but almost anything is bad at that compared to Zeroes! As a madman who managed to Ace his crews while just flying F4Fs i gotta say that F4F-3 is the best, then we have Marlet IV and at the end of the line there's F4F-4. I don't understand how F4F-4 is on 3.0, you have very little ammo for your 6 brownings, you are heavy because of all the armor and extra guns and you still have the same engine power as a 2.3 version. Marlet IV is almost as bad, but for some reason it doesn't overheat on WEP compared to both F4Fs, and it is also at 2.7, which is much more fair compared to F4F-4. F4F-3 is just a bully on his BR tho, it is fast in a dive, has a ton of ammo for 4 brownings with good enough belts and turns very well at speed and close to a stall. All i wish is for Gaijin to finally add F4F FM-2 - the MOST PRODUCED version of wildcat with much more powerful engine (iirc Hellcat's one) and with 4 brownings + some changes to the body for better flight performance. But no, we will have another Corsair or Phantom.
Actually the issue of turn rate between Wildcat and Zero is more nuanced than that. The Zero was unbeatable in low speed turn rate (200-250 mph). But at high speed, 300-350 mph, the Zero’s big ailerons became stiff and its turn rate and roll rate decreased dramatically. The Wildcat could actually turn better than the Zero at high speed (e.g. after a dive).
2:09 that box probably says "Fuses and Bulbs" and likely contains spare electric components (like fuses and lightbulbs.) not like you would ever replace one in flight, but they break often enough that even some modern planes have a box of them so as to be easily accessable on the ground.
The advantage the F-3 version has over the F-4 model at 3.0 is that without the extra .50 caliber machine guns, it actually reduces the weight, and gives you more ammunition to use (1800 vs 1660 I think). The F-3 is a better flier, the F-4 hits harder.
the turn time and energy retention during turns is usually surprisingly good on american props, on all the grumman cats its insanely good, as well as the brewsters
Oh yes the f4f wildcat i'm soo happy about the vídeo and a plane that i would recomend for the future is the ju-87 d-5 a good anti bomber or anti everything, whith the 20mm + gun pods can destroy in just a few shots.

The way match making works has so obviously been changed. No matter the BR 9/10 matches are an uptier. I play a lot of arcade and its so blatantly manufactured match making at this point it shouldn't even be called an up tier just the expected match up.
I probably have more kills in the F4F than any other Naval fighter in my lineup. The belts are decent, the turn rate is very good (with excellent rudder) and it can take a surprising amount of damage.
If you wanna try something overpowerd i recomend the swedish B-239. It has a good turn time amasing climb rate an a really powerful burst mass of 3 kg. It can fly without its tail to. Just fly uppsidedown and you can get some kills if your luckie. My favorit thing in this thing i going upp to 5.0. You wold guess that the other planes would pull away from you in a dogfigt but no. This plane has a good enough thrust to weight and energi turnig that you can stay right behind thoes planes.
Doesnt the I-301 have a BR of 4.0? Why does matchmaking work like that sometimes? :D Anyway, I'm a new Warthunder player and I got some of the most kills with the F4F-3/4. Its turn rate is super useful and for some reason I landed way more hits with it than with other planes.
Actually clutching a game like that only for gaijin to rip it away from you because of its ticket bleed mechanic is just disgusting. That win was ripped away from you WeBe.
Meanwhile while spading american fighters, I had worse expierence only if F8F xd. This thing can only climb well. While F4F is tottally oposite. It don't climb at all but the rest does avarage

Despite it being an inferior aircraft than the Zero, it actually performed well in its first combat debut over Wake Island.
The wildcat is lowkey fun the play, and a borderline bully plane.
You should try the f7f-1 or f7f-3 tigercat, four 50 cals, and four 20mm US Navy.
We need more War Thunder UA-camrs like this, who play with these forgotten planes.

The Martlet (British even version) has sturdier flaps, so you can turn inside a Zero for a good while.

what's fun is taking only 1 plane, so you get .3 br reduction, just for the game to ignore it and give you a 1.3 br uptier
I even enjoy the the F2 and even the F3 biplane I think is fun.
