I really appreciate your videos and content. It’s really helpful as I prepare to teach online again. I’m looking to more professionally record. Thank you, much love!🙏🏽
Exactly the video I was looking for! I have a Mac, a Yeti, AirPods and wondered whether the Rode Go would be an improvement, question definitively answered! Thanks Ashley!
Omg was looking for this exact video! Looking to get blue yeti just saving up for dji mic 🙏🏻 thank you so much!!!! Now ill just save up for the dji instead heheh
Thank you so much for this - it's so hard to find good recommendations on microphones to use as a yoga teacher and the main yoga teacher Facebook group I'm on doesn't allow technology chat, which makes it even more challenging! Thank you again!
I wish I could JUST talk about technology in all of my yoga FB groups, haha. I actually started a "Technology Tips for Yoga Teachers" group years ago but it's been dormant as I focus on my other group "Yoga Sequencing & Teaching Tips." I talk some technology in there, but it's more sequencing and confidence. I may revive my technology group one day, or rather, change it to "UA-cam for Yoga Teachers." I'm loving the youtube thing.
This is so helpful. Thank you! I also teach zoom yoga and have been struggling with sound. My next challenge is the visuals! Trying to find the best angles and distance so that my entire body can be seen yet doesn't seem so far away. Take good care!
I appreciate you for sharing this! After watching, I typed in 'rode wireless microphone vs' into the search bar to see if there were any others to choose from and dji mic came up. After watching some videos, it looks like the dji mic is way better for about the same price. Just thought I'd share in case you ever felt like another upgrade! Cheers
@@AshleyHagen Well, idk if it's 'way better', you can decide that for yourself but there were a lot of little things that add up to it seeming much better to me ua-cam.com/video/v6rYOkCDCr8/v-deo.html
The best think you could do for your audio in this specific room is line the walls with curtain type material. If you choose well it would look pretty too!
In person, it's actually not bad at all. It's a lovely room with great in-person acoustics without the use of curtains. But it is an idea. Currently, I'm liking the very clean minimalist look.
Ashley Hagen - Ashes Yoga sure, I’m only referring audio recordings not in person etc. They do say that the audio is MORE important than the picture quality when making videos, so do perhaps consider the trade off for “aesthetics” that having some way of reducing echo would make. You don’t have to keep the material up when you stop recording either- just a couple velcro strips :) I wouldn’t be so dismissing until you’ve considered a new idea full is all (:
You have me really excited about potentially buying the Rode. I currently use Beats earbuds while teaching and have had consistent complaints about sound, mostly through a specific platform that requires a high bandwidth. But it seems to resolve. I used my backup Yeti for that more recently. On Zoom, the Beats seem less of a problem. I think it's because it requires less bandwidth vs the meditation app I teach on. But the Beats also do give issues on a regular phone calls too. So I'm looking for the next step, a step in "pro" quality. I am thinking the Rode is a great next step. The one question I have is, have there every been some connectivity issues such as crackling with the Rode? It seems like the wireless signal for that mic is really strong and solid.
Hi Ashley, thank you so much for your helpful video🙏! Please, can you let us know what is the difference between mic you recommend and the other ultracompact for $149? Thank you so much!
Holy echo, Batman! So, I’m wondering if the AirPods were cracking as a result of the noise cancellation combined with your room’s echo, or possibly even interference with the Bluetooth signal from WiFi. Conversely, a pencil mic setup is ideal for indoor spaces with a ton of echo. Nevertheless, interesting comparison, albeit possibly flawed.
I think my hair was getting in the way somehow. I'm not sure. Airpods (at least the pro version) do not stay in my ears either. So there was issues there. Tell me more about this "pencil" mic.
Thank you Ashley! This video is really helpful! I will look into buying the Rode Wireless Go microphone! Another quick question: what camera do you use for your classes?
Super helpful but what if I'm teaching and I'm using music... so if I'm playing music on another device .... will my Webcam record oy my voice or can pick up the music in the room
Thanks for your videos. I’m curious if you have some advice re: teaching via zoom and playing music in the background. Any suggestions re: microphone and how you play music?
Ashley, what were you using to record the video - iPhone, Android, iPad, Mac-book or PC computer? Thanks so much. The video is a great comparison. We've been told that the mic on AirPods doesn't work with video recorders but rather the internal mic is used. Perhaps this is not so with the new AirPod Pros.
Any Bluetooth mic should work if you connect the pods or headphones to the device. Here, I am filming on my MacBook Pro using a Logitech webcam. I record using QuickTime and I have the ability to switch the audio setting.
Hi Ashley, thanks for sharing this video! What are you using to do the actual recording? And if you are using the AirPod option, are you using an additional software? Thank you!
No additional software. I think I recorded this on my Mac computer using Quicktime. I switched the audio settings in quicktime. I'd do the same thin on Zoom. There is an audio settings option.
I just bought a new Rode wireless go and unfortunately I’ve had a lot of problems with it :-( It keeps cutting out; i’ve tried several different ways wearing it and haven’t had a successful yoga class yet using it 😢
Thank you. I have a Bluetooth headset that works ok, but it's cumbersome to wear and when I speak the music stops! I teach tai chi and aerobic classes via zoom to seniors) using itunes for music. Do the airpods work with music? Much thanks for your time.
The best would likely be a Blue Yeti style mic if you are using external music that is picking up through the mic. Both the Rode wireless go and airpods try to minimize background noice. Are you using Zoom? You can share your music through the advanced settings so that they hear the music and you talking. Here's a video: ua-cam.com/video/rGySn0h8nv4/v-deo.html
Hi! This is really helpful! I was wondering if with the Rode is a good option for recording workout videos... is it possible to record the voice while filming with an iphone? (I know that with the airpods it is not possible and I would need to have 2 phones, one for filming and one for recording the voice).
Thank you for your helpful video. I am curious if you have tried to play music through zoom share audio while you teach? Does it work or are there any technical issues?
The Rode microphone? No, I usually don't have an issue with it when I fold. Just as with any microphone, you'll want to be careful not to rub up right on the microphone. But because the mic is at the top of the box, it usually is pretty good for folding forwarding and getting into random poses. Just be mindful of it. You can always unclip and move it to the floor or someplace while you are teaching. And I have turned it off and then on again between long holding poses.
Dear Ashley, thank you for this! I am looking for a microphone to teach my yoga classes with (from home) and for that I need a mic that does really great noise cancelling. For example when the students are in shavasana, I want it to be very quiet. I live in a noisy street and sometimes my room mate is home (trying to be quiet but doesn't always manages to... ;-) ). Have you tested for ex. the Rode Wireless Go inside with background noise? Thank you for your advice! Kind regards , Grete
I don’t know if there is a microphone that is completely noise canceling. Unless you want to spend thousands of dollars. I recommend choosing a time and place that is the most quiet for you, rather than trying to teach with people and loud noises around you. I’m sorry you are having a hard time finding that space. With microphones, you can turn them off. I have turned off my mic during savasana so it’s extra quiet for the students on Zoom, and I don’t have to worry if I cough or make a sound. I’ve also turned off my mic between yin poses when we just held for 3-5 minutes and my toddler was running around.
I use a lot of fabric and sound dampening materials in my much smaller yoga room, and wonder if that would make much of a difference. Also, whenever someone in front of the camera for a workshop has the AirPods on, they always sound worse than everyone else.
Not in my studio. I tried to put some curtains up once (6 of them) and it made absolutely no difference. My space is too large. It would be more expensive to buy a bunch of curtains than it would to simply buy a microphone. I stick with my Rode Wireless Go and all is well.
Thank you so much for doing this! So if I need to also hear my class participants, would the audio still come from the laptop? I'm trying to figure out how to get good quality audio for me while also being able to hear my participants. Using a MacBook Air btw.
Yes. As long as your microphone is plugged in through USB or bluetooth, you should hear people just fine. There is also options to switch the input/output of the microphone and speakers on Zoom.
your video and proof were some of the most comprehensive and helpful I have found on the UA-cam, thank you.. Greetings from Italy.
