Love these "Oldies" kind of episodes. Four Seasons band was so impressive. Super tight, perfect harmony back up vocals and an awesome drummer. Great watch, thanks.
Following 1973s American Graffiti and in Jan 1974, Happy Days - This episode would have been right in the middle of the 50s nostalgia wave. Perfect timing!
Great Show! Burt changed the landscape of late night television with the introduction of the midnight special, i believe i read he was at every show, he has known more famous rockers from the 70's and 80's than any man alive....What a Life Burt Sugarman!
My parents were big Fats Domino fans, they had a lot of his 45s, what fascinated me about them were they were all different colors, yellow, red, blue, green. We had to move in a hurry one time and left them behind. The Coasters (Probably had 1 or less original members) played the Myrtle Beach AFB NCO Club. They played all their hits, and the lead singer danced with my wife (She must have looked good, because Percy Sledge also danced with her on another concert 😁). Frank and crew bringing all the hits! Looks like a wonderful trip, this time on the Way, Way Back Machine. Thanks Midnight Special!
My dad had stacks and stacks of 45's, I can still remember color of the label of many of my favorites. He lost a lot of them in the back window of his car when they melted. From this episode I remember "Yakety Yak" by the Coasters had a yellow label, "Rag Doll" by Frankie Valli had a black label.
Fats Domino, The Coasters, AND Franki Valli???? This episode is gonna be awesome!!!!!!😻🎉👍🏼❤️ Oh man! Wolfman Jack on stage cutting it up with Fats Domino was epic😂💃🏾👍🏼
Like Greg always says, 'it's a boomer-fest' (or something like that) episode, but I'm here for it! I like Fats and all the rest! We're rolling way back before we roll forward in a few days.🎉😁💜
@@Royalle_with_Cheese Actually high schoolers in the 70s are Generation Jones, those born from 1954-1964, we were born too young for Woodstock, Haight Asbury, Vietnam war protest, barely there for Earth Day. They call us Joneser's, because, as quoted from the big hair red head in Dazed and Confused, "The 60s Rocked, the 70s, well look around sucks, so the 80s will be epic!" We had no causes to protest for, we had the most freedom of any generation, almost no parental supervision, cheap weed, great music, cars (or knew someone who had one). It was the best decade to come to age in. Generation Jones is a thing, Google it to find out more. I had nothing in common with hippies or Nam vets, the Beatles were broke up, though George Harrison was cranking great tunes, I am not a Baby Boomer, I'm too young!
4 artists from the pre British Invasion period had #1 hits in 1974 ( a favorite year for me ), Frankie Valli “ My Eyes adored You”, Paul Anka “ Having My Baby “, Bobby Vinton “ My Melody Of Love “ and Neil Sedaka “ Laughter In The Rain “. !!!
At this point in time the Four Seasons had completed an unsuccessful 2+ years at Motown, with their last single for the label, "Hickory," having tanked in the spring of '74. But their fortunes would soon be on the rise, signing with Warner Brothers and hitting the top 5 again with "Who Loves You," a year after this episode was broadcast.
Bassist Joe Long played with the band from the late 60s until the mid 70s. This particular grouping features Frankie, Joe, and members of the "Who Loves You" and "December '63 (Oh, What a Night)" version of the Seasons. These guys could really rock out with Gerry Polci on drums. Gerry would sing lead vocal on "December '63 (Oh What a Night.)"
I wouldn't have watched this in 1974. I thought this was old fart music. I was a teen so I was more into CSNY and other hippie rock. But now, watching this, I find that I know and enjoy most of these songs. How is that? 😊😊🎶🎶
Because you're older and have a better appreciation and deeper understanding of the music and the artists. The passage of time allows us to see things differently. In our youth, we live for the moment and enjoy what's popular at the time. Age provides prospective and gives us the chance to see things we took for granted in a different light.
lol moving a grand piano with pelvis thrusts takes a bit of effort! awesome show. looking forward to next week with Golden earring, hoping they'll do that Twilight Zone number, love that one
