    We bought a Massey Ferguson 1835E compact tractor a year ago for our homestead. Today we have put 155 hours on it working the land, clearing brush, digging foundations, and building out our homestead.
    We love our homestead tractor, and we think you will too. In this video we go over why we bough the Massey Ferguson 1835E compact tractor, why we didn't go with a Kubota, John Deere, Mahindra, or Bobcat tractor. It comes down to location. We have a local Massey Ferguson dealer that can give us great service and support. That, and Massey just makes a great tractor.
    We discuss things we like about the tractor, things we have changed, like adding a 3rd function, rear remote, and ballast in the rear tires.
    We talk about the implements we have bought: Grapple, Box Blade, Bush Hog, Stump Bucket, Dump Bucket, and our soon to arrive Woodland Mills WC68 6" PTO wood chipper.
    Thanks for watching our compact tractor review!

    Nice review; Any tractor is better than no tractor, But a M-F tractor = A Mighty-Fine tractor. I own a 1959 M-F 50 gasoline, & a 2018 1526 love them both; They are both hard working tractors. I like all the implements you have for your M-F 1825 E; Nice setup.

    I had my Massey Ferguson 1825e for almost 6 month. Love that machine. I really liked what you said about the hose on the fuel tank getting snagged on the branches. I also do a lot of land clearing on my property and will definitely have to check that hose.

    An LED light bar up at the top of the ROPS is the bomb. A high light source shines over the front edge of the hood and past the loader bucket for superb night time work. I wouldn't be without it for snow work, or any dark time work. One facing rearwards is also recommended for seeing what's going on behind you at night so you don't back into things. Mine's on a separate switch.

    I had a 1740e HST for almost two years it was a 2020 and it was a awesome machine. I now have an 1835M Cab and I absolutely will never go back to an open station, the use you get out of the tractor when weather is no concern goes up dramatically. That being said i do believe that other than lift capacity the loader on my 1740 was higher quality than the much bigger and more expensive unit I have now. No issues with either machine, never an engine light or service visit but I believe the SSQA was more robust in the 1700 series along with steel lines for the older functions instead of hoses ran through the loader frame and the loader stands on the 1700 series we’re also much better in my opinion. Great video and great machine. I upgraded the bulbs in my E series to a premium halogen and it made all the difference. Best of luck.

      @DuckRiverHomestead  Рік тому

      Great idea on upgrading the headlights. Thanks for sharing your experience on your 1835M. I think a cab would be really nice. I was concerned about a cab in the woods so an open station made a lot of sense for me. But those air conditioned cabs are really nice when the weather isn't perfect.

    Hey Brian ,you got the BEST "starter Tractor". I had looked for another tractor. Have a kubogy MX5200 TLB( kind of big) & a Massey-Ferguson a1988 2wd 1020 21hp 3speed hydro-slack-o-matic 1600hr no loader machine(kind of small). So I searched for something in between. "Fell into " a 2016 Massey-Ferguson 1736 power-shuttle T&L off the showroom floor in 2018 with 0.6 hours & a "deal"---it is a Geat Tractor but 85% as big as the MX. Since "they" tweeked the 1800e series ( like yours) l have no further to look because it's 75% as big but same horse-power & by the specification more nimble. The old 1700e series was not quite "up to par". The 2850m is your "next jump" in a Tractor quest -- but by all means keep the 1835E it is so nimble,capable,& handy. In the "mean time" just "cage" the turn signals & "slap" some Big lights on the ROPS Bar. I have the same 6 foot flex-link brush cutter ( used it for 1st time in two years) just last Week---FABULOUS. Did you add the "slip-clutch" ; l Did? Nice log grapple for the sawmill & everything else. Thanks for the great Video Sir and happy safe tractoring, building,& sawing. Keep ALL of them Great vidios comming.

    I just found your channel. Seems that we have a lot in common. I also have a MF1835E. Mine is a bit different with a Hydrostatic transmission and I have R4 tires. I may switch those out as I finish my home projects and move the bulk of my work to my off-grid property. I also have a Woodland Mill(HM130 MAX) and the WC68. I absolutely love the WC68. I plan to get a stump bucket and do the same hydraulic upgrades that you did. I also broke one of the lights. My dealer had told me to re-mount them to the inside of the ROPS to protect them. I haven't done that yet. I may try to fabricate some sort of guard to protect them. I like your Titan three-point dump bucket. I've been considering the Big Tool Rack but keep choking on the price for that thing.

    • @DuckRiverHomestead
      @DuckRiverHomestead  Рік тому

      Wow, we really do have a lot. I've just been more careful in the woods with the lights. Now that I have a polaris ranger I haven't really used the dump bucket. I wish I had gotten the hydraulic version cause it doesn't really release easily. I need to get a quick attach for the 3-point. I'll probably be doing a year 2 update shortly.

      Awesome! The 1840M apparently has an upgraded frame and heavier lift capacity on the front loader. Seems like a pretty good option to me. Thanks. This was useful as I am currently looking at different 35 hp range compact tractors. Unfortunately the nearest Massy Dealer (also true for Kioti, Branson, and Mahindra) is over 50 miles away so they are probably out of the running.

    • @DuckRiverHomestead
      @DuckRiverHomestead  Рік тому +1

      What brand are you looking at? 50+ miles is a tough one, even if you have a trailer strong enough to tow it, that's an hour minimum to get service. And the hauling fee would be cost prohibitive as well. If you have a local dealer/service provider for a specific brand, for me that would make a HUGE difference. Mahindra was about 100 miles away from me, so that wasn't an option. They JUST put in a Deere dealership around the corner, but I also have Kubota and Bobcat nearby as well. Any of these would be a good option. Just make sure you get the quick attach front loader. That will open up a world of opportunities.

    • @edlibey8177
      @edlibey8177 Рік тому

      @@DuckRiverHomestead Within 25 miles there are a Bobcat dealer, two John Deere dealers, two Kubota dealers and a Yanmar dealer. So some choices. I am leaning towards Bobcat currently. The Bobcat dealer had the best selection and I have a bit of experience with them. I have had negative experience with one of the Kubota dealers (working on my wall behind brush hog). Also probably not the best reason but, the Bobcat is actually 30% cheaper. Again thank you for your excellent advice and videos.

      Mixed feelings. I move alot of firewood and would rather have a grapple for that., but knew what I was getting when I bought it. What I do like is the convienience. I can pick up logs (up to 1400lbs) move them to buck, then without getting off the seat, doze the pile around. Again in winter, without a tool change I can push snow and move back to the wood pile. It is a compromise, and has a big learning curve. It's hard to see when manipulating material. It's really like a giant claw arcade game at first. Sometimes I can lift a14"x 10' log no problem and other times I struggle to lift 6 4", only to turn around and pick a dandielion... The back drag and leveling on it is what I like most. No more neck turning. If the soil isn't too packed you can reverse blade and watch while you do it. Great for leveling soil or gravel. Definitely a useful tool to have. My factory bucket has never broke ground. Which brings up another compromise, limited capcity compared to stock, which is debateable. Factory is a 60" bucket and this is a 72". But the depth and height is less.

    • @DuckRiverHomestead
      @DuckRiverHomestead  Рік тому

      I might be able to flip them inside, but that'll potentially block my rear view.. The bolts are through bolts so it would be a direct fit, I'd definitely have to drill a hole for the wiring, and at this point I'm not sure I'm willing to do that. I'd then have to put in a seal for the old wiring hole. At that point, I think it might make more sense to fabricate some fender mounted lights. who knows, the options are vast.
