    I really agree with most of the comments that you underestimated our openness, it is literally our main trait. I see what you mean about liking comfort but I can easily go past that if I’m excited about new ideas and adventures whereas there’s no way I’d give up my creative freedom for comfort. Those 2 traits do exist in INTPs but are not equal at all in how important they are for an INTP to function. I think our openness is probably lower than an ENTP but slightly higher than that of an INTJ.

      INTP. Actually we love to explore - particularly ideas, approaches - and learning about topics that are of interest. Maybe in the physical world, we tend to like routine and “creature comforts”. For example, I do try one new item at the grocery store when I go, otherwise I get the same things. In my personal clothes, I get the same shirts and pants (brand, brand cut, size) just different colors. (Office clothes, I get different blouses, cause I kind of had to, you know, because it’s kind of expected by other people).

      Got me an empathy deficit, but I try to go out of my way to be helpful. In my opinion, the test I took should have taken altruistic action and attitude into account. Just because I don't "feel" other people doesn't mean I haven't done my market research on what pleases them.
      The Extroversion score would have been difficult to agree with in earlier years, particularly given my first-person pronoun density, but having gotten over my social anxiety, I find all this small-talk and multiple human interaction INTOXICATING! I thought I was an introvert because I would be stuck in my Default Mode Network at daft times and slowly turn into a misanthrope who's constantly one poor choice of words away from a massacre. Soon as I see someone, the smile is back on, baby!
      The rest stands to reason, but I really must give myself some credit with conscientiousness. In spite of my day being chaotic, I am always on top of things, and my morning routine would make an average ENTJ blush.

    Enfps and infps in my experience are actually two types that could drastically go either way in terms of agreeableness. ENTP here, and you’re right, I’m protesting. I’m a ‘possible’ at most. I don’t necessarily like people but I’m fascinated by them. I accept that I am expansive, outward-looking, but I enjoy spending time in my head, more. I hate social obligations even though I know I’ll be better off attending them. The getting ready, the drive there, the awkward initial small talks, loatheee them. But often time than not, there’d be a moment where a light switches, and I found myself riding the waves. With just a little effort, it could be fun. Even when the company’s crap, the commentary in my head would make up for it. And coming home to any type of experience rejuvenates me, although 7/10 times, I’d prefer not to go out in the first place. So, ‘possible’.

    Edit:
    After analysing the info from this video, I am led to believe that:
    - Openness is related to Ni and Ne, but opposed to Si and Se;
    - Conscientiousness is related to Te and Si or Ni, but opposed to Ne;
    - Extraversion is related to Se and Fe, but opposed to Ni, Ne and Ti;
    - Agreeableness is related to Fe and Fi, but opposed to Te and Ti.

    - High in Openness to experience

    As an ENTJ, I would put myself in the Possible box for Agreeableness. There are lots of factors that would make some types to be unstereotypical, such as gender/culture/parenting style. I am a female Asian ENTJ with a conservative ESFJ dad that taught me how to be polite all the time and get along with others 24/7. I admit Disagreeableness is my nature, but being bombarded with this particular social construct for 26 years truly did tame it a little.

    Regarding ISTPs and Openness: I’m not well versed in the definitions of the Big Five but as far as I see it openness doesn’t necessarily mean that the new ideas have to be abstract or have to come from within. You could be open to external input while not being intuitive or creative yourself at all.
    For me personally being open means that if I learn something new I’m not immediately dismissing it without further thought but I’ll rather consider whether it makes sense and if it has practical applications. If it doesn’t then I’ll dismiss it otherwise I will integrate it in my understanding of the world.
    Also I’ll seek out every possible information I can gather about topics that interest me (for example MBTI over the last couple of weeks/months) and I try out new things to make something more efficient (for example with computer programming).
    So in essence I see myself as generally quite open but with a scrutinizing filter behind that openness.
    Edit: Just to make it clear, I’m totally fine with the ISTP being put in the Likely category. I would have probably put them there as well.

    • @Multitudes_
      @Multitudes_ 3 роки тому +1

      Yes, openness to external ideas counts - in fact, that's more directly relevant to what this Big 5 trait is measuring than your personal creativity. However, it's more about openness to things like intellectual ideas, artistic expression, and different points of view, rather than physical experiences, so it does skew relatively abstract and tends to correlate with MBTI intuition. But of course, even sensors can have well-developed intuition sometimes.

    The last category got me thinking. I had to process my past reactions objectively before I’ve decided to write this comment. I don’t know if being an INFJ always results in: not speaking one’s mind. Or, perhaps other factors influence this. Personally, my problem has often been related to: speaks before careful processing (while growing up). Since my attention has always been on truth and equality, I have instinctively reacted to situations where I have perceived the opposite to be true. Other factors might play a bigger role in this. If my parents were to be asked about my level of honesty and direct approach, they would say it is the highest amongst all the family members. However, I do think that my focus is always on stating facts, not trying to ‘attack’ someone personally. So, people who know me well can tell that my intentions are good and that I react on instinct. But it is possible for an INFJ whose Enneagram type is conflict avoidant, to show such reactions.

    87.5% Openness (High), 31% Conscientiousness (Low), 23% Extraversion (Low), 48% Agreeableness (Medium), 52% Neuroticism (Medium)
    So mostly pretty accurate, although I guess you'd expect neuroticism to be higher because we have unbalanced thinking vs feeling. And maybe you'd expect slightly lower openness?
    Then again, I think this would be because I'm sort of neurotic in some ways but not others (so once again, what you said was pretty accurate) e.g. self conscious, socially awkward, easily overwhelmed, unmotivated, distant, but I wouldn't say that I'm quick to anger, or constantly sad, or that I worry that much compared to others (I can be overly cautious but that's different).

    • @Multitudes_
      @Multitudes_ 3 роки тому +1

      The unbalanced thinking vs. feeling thing is just Nathan's idea, and I don't think it has much of a basis in reality, nor has it aligned with what I've seen in myself or other people as far as neuroticism goes. Neuroticism is really just its own separate category with no equivalent in the MBTI.
      I would expect INTPs to be among the highest in openness! Maybe you're talking about Nathan's expectations, but I don't think he was talking about how high he expected people to score - rather how likely people of a given type are to score high.

    FANTASTIC!! Seems like most of the "extroverts" are really "ambiverts"?

    As an ENTJ, your placement of us is spot on, at least for me.

    sloan typing, if it is of any help to anyone :)
    - type examples: sloan, rcuei scoei, rloen etc etc
    openness vs closedness to experience
    5th letter in type ; i ( inquinsitive ) / n ( non-curious )
    conscientiousness vs lack of direction
    3rd letter in type ; o ( organised ) / u ( unstructured )
    introversion vs extroversion
    1st letter in type ; r ( reserved ) / s ( social )
    agreeableness vs antagonism
    4th letter in type ; a ( accommodating ) / e ( egocentric )
    neuroticism bs emotional instability
    2nd letter in type ; l ( limbic ) / c ( calm )
    im an rcuai intp ! with my accommodating’ being quite mild ( but still there, could be partly to do with my 9w8 secondary trifix in my enneagram, perhaps ) and being primarily ‘inquisitive’ :)

    INTP:
    ( The category in the video)
    O -> 90% ( Likely ) Turned out highly likely
    C -> 56% ( unlikely ) possible
    E -> 29% ( unlikely ) unlikely
    A -> 60% ( possible) possible
    N -> 67% possible
    Well, I’m not sure how correct that is regarding to my MBTI type but I’ve tried the test recently and that’s what I’ve got
    - The openness part is relatable to me as I try to listen to different views/thoughts and understand the thought process behind it no matter how absurd it may be. It’s fun to try and make sense of it.
    - For the conscientiousness .. I do forget appointments and show up late.. you got me, but when it’s important I make sure to remember it, sometimes I use the help of reminders and alarms ( without them I’ll probably be lost lol ) I learned to kind of make a plan and remind myself what I have to do tomorrow or the day after .. I’m not saying I’m great at it but it got better xD
    - Extraversion … hmm I’m mostly introverted I would say but I won’t mind spending some time with others, nothing big but still a change.
    - Agreeableness, true I don’t like emotions getting into disagreements, sometimes it’s understandable but most of the time I can’t take it seriously for some reason, It’s better for me if people rely more on talking maturely and discussing what they want, it’ll help me understand what should be done more easily than getting emotional because I can’t make sense of it.
    - Neuroticism, I seem chill to a certain extent unless something extremely serious happens and my anxiety starts kicking in then I do become moody, things will irritate me and I’ll be silent and distant, I don’t like it and even sometimes try to ignore it and snap out of it but the feelings are too strong, but only under huge pressure otherwise I don’t mind much.
    Sheesh that was a lot but I need to make sense of myself lol

    Oh it hurt so much when you put infp at the bottom of extroversion. I'm an infp but through the hard ships if life I've come to like being around people and sharing my ideas and beliefs with them

    When I took that test I scored high in Conscientious & Agreebleness. And low in Extroversion & Openess. I scored like mid in Neuroticism. But it's been like three years since I've taken it (ISFJ)

    As an INFP scoring in the 99th percentile on Openness, I have a reaction to this video. My ENFP friend is openminded on principle, because she thinks she ought to be. She is very sincere in her view on openmindedness and I happen to agree with her opinion. However, for me, it's different. It's my gut that's openminded, whereas it's her head. I have an openminded reaction without thinking, whereas she has to think about it first.
    Interestingly, she also thinks through her judgments more carefully and routinely and is more judgmental... or maybe she just thinks more than I do. However, to be fair, I think about my principles ahead of time and have them ready to go when needed.
    There is also a difference between INFPs and INFJs that has more to do with openness to empathy than to new experience, although both of these apply. INFJs tend to feel more secure letting people in because they are so aware of the structures that make up their identities. Despite their reputation for self centeredness, INFPs are often oblivious to their own process, making them vulnerable to and afraid of manipulation.

    Relatively sure I'm an INTJ, though I'm not yet entirely certain whether it's not INFJ (with about a 70-30% certainty respectively).
    I did the test (though was pretty careful; often picking "somewhat" (in)accurate instead of "very"):
    O: 79%
    C: 58%
    E: 31%
    A: 52%
    N: 52% (apparently I'm more of a depressed baby than I thought)
    Those also align most, very well in fact, with the INTJ rankings in the video (though still pretty similar to INFJ).
