- A song originally written by Joe Hill for the IWW to satirise the Salvation Army, an organisation which tried to drown out IWW with their religious music. In this version the lyrics were slightly altered to be more revolutionary by the Progressive Labor Party.

IWW music needs more recognition and use by the American left. A lot of the lyrics can be easily changed to match our modern struggles.

A lot of those songs (including this one) are already adaptations. This is already the result of lyrics being changed to suit the needs of whoever was singing and the lyrics vary from rendition to rendition.
I love how in the end they basically say that when the world is free of the bosses, the bosses will have to now learn how to do stuff for their own lol

As a Christian who literally has the funding reports of my church, you people don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, you’re ignorant, and I highly doubt the validity of your claim to be Christian. “Religion in capitalist countries” why don’t you tell me how religion held up in China, North Korea, Cambodia, and Laos? Cuba and the Soviet Union were majority Christian and there was still some amount of suppression.

This is not attacking religion, it is attacking the use of religion as a means by which the rich control the poor. There are religious communists and progressives too. Irish Catholics are one big example but if you want specific leaders there were also Z.A. Bhutto from Pakistan, Ghadaffi in Libya and Mossadegh in Iran, among several others I can't remember.

As others have mentioned, these lyrics have been altered by the Progressive Labor Party. The IWW indeed never had an official ideology, thus it would be strange to label a version of the song that talks about fighting for socialism as an IWW song, wouldn't it?
