Could you have connected the lin bus connection to "new" alternator without fitting it to check the functionality? Or wires too short?

The valeo indicator issue will be unleaded solder and dry joints. To drive 4 leds to European indicator regs they will get hot which is why you have half a kilo of aluminum heat sink on the back 😅 great video though!

Don’t get me going on fitting customers own S/H parts causes so much trouble and bad feeling! Been there they get a replacement but can’t understand why you want paying Twice 🤷‍♂️

If it's under warranty and must be a safety issue I would have insisted VW fix promptly or replacement car provided until fixed. Hope VW were paying for the labour and parts

The difficulty i find with dealers warranty is the customers are struggling to get a booking regardless if its a safety concern or not (in my opinion)
Sometimes its easier for them to pay someone like myself to do the work to save vehicle downtime etc
      Thanks for watching

@@mrautoservices7354 That's fair enough as long as the customer doesn't pay. Also why are dealers so busy, Is it the poor quality of cars in recent times.

I can imagine the VW workshops get overwhelmed with electrical problems and warnings coming up on the dash in my experience with them, I bet the courtesy cars are all out!

I had a smart charging error in my smax. Think it was something like "no communication with smart charge system" Various garages had a go at fixing it, battery, battery status monitor, alternator. Still had same issue.
As mentioned in this video it has to be like for like alternator.
I had to change the radiator anyway so removed the front of the car for easy rad access and while it was off checked all cables for damage, breakages etc.
Turned out to be corroded earth strap connection to the chassis rail! Cleaned it and fixed the alternator fault.

Something very therapeutic about watching an expert follow a logical (to him anyway) sequence to find faults and set them right. I'm amazed by the muted, almost non-existent celebrations when the fault is found and the fix works. I'd be jumping up and down like a lunatic, waving my hands in the air with glee and self-satisfaction. I'm definitely not an expert but I like to think I'm not an idiot either but when I watch these videos I have doubts. Reading some of the comments it appears most viewers at least understand the basics. If you want to know how to issue operating licences to taxi drivers, how to manage a furniture shop or how to drive a bus, I'm your man

Great video. The world’s gone mad-what’s the matter with a good old- fashioned lamp instead of over complicated leds and £600 for an alternator?I’ll keep my old cars going until the bastards force me off the road.

How much cheaper car parts would be if there weren't thousands of varieties of essentially the same component.
