    HOLLEY CARB- LEARN TO TUNE A HOLLEY CARB FROM SCRATCH | HOLLEY CARBURETOR TUNING | HOLLEY CARB TUNING SECRETS |
    How to tune a holley carburetor!Today Ill be going through the processes of fully tuning a holley carb from scratch. I've somewhat cheated in the fact that I've already tuned several carbs in the past on this engine so I know where to start and how this engine likes to be fed fuel. As most of you might know, I'm a big fan of holley carbs and find them fascinating in the ways that they work and the tuning aspect of them makes it really easy for me to tune them for a variety of applications. We will be starting from holley carb no start, to holley carb running rich, to holley carb runing lean, holley carb bog, holley carb hard start, holley carb hesitation and so much more info, I've already gone through the steps in detail on my other videos but this is the culmination of everything all in one go, so sit back, relax and enjoy the show! Holley carb tuning is super fast and easy and once youve got it down you can do it again and again.
    SETTING UP AND TUNING HOLLEY IDLE AND TRANSITION CICUITS | Holley Carb Secrets |How To Tune A Holley
    How to set idle on a holley and other such questions are answered! Holley carb wont idle? Car wont idle? Holley carb runs rich? Holley carb wont start hot? All these questions AND MORE will be answered TODAY. too many people have no idea how the holley idle and transition circuit work on a holley carb. too many people belong to the set it and forget it line of thinking when it comes to out of the box carbs and not too many really know whats going on and decide to just give the carb a bad rap. Well, today we are going into an in depth tutorial and explaining on how these systems work and how you can get more out of your carburetor, maybe even pull up a few MPGs while you are at it!
    Tuning Holley carbs are probably the most widely used carb is all of automotive history. The Holley 4 barrel is a staple among racers and cruiser a like but too few people really understand what goes on inside their Holley carb and too many decide to ditch the old carb in favor of a new one. I am here to share 5 secrets you can employ TODAY to get that Holley nice and tuned and running better than ever in true DIY fashion. I'm put to work these 5 secretes to get my Carb ls going so these are definitely something you need to keep in mind. Tuning a holley carb is what separates the boys from the racers. Depending on how well this video does, I'll be breaking up and going into full detail of what goes on specifically in the different circuits as well so stay tuned!
    Carb ls talk again and this time why you need to install a nice little fuel mixer on top of your modern ls engine. carb 5.3 engines are pretty common now and not to many people feel they are competent enough to install on their 6.0 ls. depending on your engine combination, doing a carb ls swap with a standard 4150 or 4160 carb might even save you some dough in the long run. this is going on my ls swapped dodge so kick back, relax and enjoy the show! Ls swaps are fun, and a carb ls is even better! I now have a carb ls Dyno video for your guys to check out!

    One last note Drew from the carb facebook group reminded me of is that there are single feed 4150 carbs using the side hung floats. It's not very popular due to reasons mentioned in the video but I thought I'd throw it out there!

    Hey man, appreciate the video. I’m having an issue with my Holley 750 double pump dual feed. Mind you I’m in now way carb savy. My issue is that is fuel being pumped out of my secondary vent tube. My floats and needles seem to be fine and fuel pressure seems to be between 5-6psi. If you could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

      @NightWrencher  3 роки тому +1

      I would suggest turning down the pressure until the problem goes away. I had a 575 demon give me a lot of issues so I turned down the regulator to 4.5 and the flooding slowed but it didnt stop. Turns out it was a bad oring on the needle and seat. On an 1850 it kept pouring out even with new needles and seats and the float turned way down low. Lowered the PSI to 5.5 and the problems went away. Hope that helps!

    Can a Holley 750 vacuum secondary ( 3310) be converted to a Holley 750 (4779)mechanical secondary (double pumper) if so please steer me in the right direction

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  2 роки тому

      It can be converted to a mechanical secondary but it cant be a double pumper because the holes for the secondary squirter is not there unless you swap out the main body too. So youll need, rear fuel bowl for a DP, baseplate and center section. It would be cheaper to buy another carb and sell that one vs trying to make it work. That being said, I find tuning vacuum secondary holleys much easier.

    Maybe a stupid question here, but the fuel inlet on the 4160 carbs is on the same side of the carb as the throttle linkage (driver's side). On Chevy's with mechanical fuel pump, the fuel comes up on the passenger side of the engine. Is it possible to swap the primary & secondary float bowls so that the fuel inlet is on the passenger side of the engine?

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  3 роки тому +1

      Not really since the transfer tube would have to go through the vacuum secondary pod. Your best bet is to buy a metal fuel line the fits your inlet and bend it in a U shape so that you dont have to bend the rubber line

    They holley 3310-10 like I have that think it was $200 I got it for, would think it to be a 4160 equivalent. It had center hung bowls, came with the rear metering plate and vacuum secondaries. I already had a 4150 an fuel log that I bought a long time ago for one, so first mod was a secondariy metering block out the gate. It had copper inlet fiters that I found to be trash, they cogged to easy and cracked one bowl messing with it a bunch. Second upgrade was bowls with sight glasses, makes for good check on fuel level. I did strip the squiter at some point and needs snugged up every so often, yea dont over tighten those.
    I got a summit M2008 750 on it now for a carb to set up for max economy since had annular booster, yes could had got a brawler main body for the one I got but this was for $100. Having two 750s can go the route of having the holley setup for max power. So when ever I get back to the holley, it get a new main body. Not sure if will get a holley hp/xp with dog leg boosters or a bawler annular ones, ether way it will be with out choke horn and I like how the xp looks.
    So I may end up in the boat of drilling a 4150 body for 4160 vacuum secondaries when I get back to it. In turn at the end of the road would be sort a 4150 base plate to make my parts one, my secondariy bowl only needs drilled and taped for a pump. Looking at cost a xp main body is $250, no name base plate $100 and no name billet adjustable metering blocks at $100. That would be less than half the cost of a xp and a few hundred less than a quick fuel new.
    So dont see loss in building a 4150 from parts and could save some on used parts. This would leave me sort the bowl I broke and fixing the threads on the squirter to get it in shape to have ready to resale to recover some the cost. In turn dont see much loss much loss in starting with one I got since gave a starting point at a good all carb to learn what I wanted from it. In the long run it might had been better to have spent the extra on the adjustable metering blocks from the start, but hind sight is 20/20.

      @@NightWrencher Yea when last driving the truck 5 years ago, it was a bit of guess work without a wide band gauge. Having issues getting a block decked in my f350, means I have to make a long run in my f100. When last using it was seeing how lean I could get it to run without issues, especially when the secondaries opened. At 9 mpg and $4 for premium, I got this summit carb to see if can get closer to 14 mpg. I got a wide band this round and thanks for the info you have to share.

    not a bad video just to note though you can buy a conversion kit from Summit racing for 73 bucks that comes with a block and a longer fuel transfer tube etc... sure it's not a dual feed but on another note you mentioned picking up another carb cheap and here in Canada where I am that isn't an option. They don't really exist a guy will have to spend a ton of money to buy a used 4150 and then probably rebuild it or buy new which for a 4150 is 650- 1000 ish dollars. .. by using the kit a guy can do that and then if wanted can buy different float bowls down the road. !

      Very true! I forget sometimes that outside the US its much harder to get a hold of holley carbs and parts. Best place I would check would be ebay but thats about it. I think I feel a bit spoiled because we can find used holleys locally for cheap, but I hope you can find what works best for you.

      @@NightWrencher you're lucky for sure !! I know ebay is an option but our dollar sucks so it gets expensive fast to buy from the US and shipping is insane too. I picked up my 4160 used for 150 ( US equivelent) so while it's not my ideal carb I'll work with it. I'd totally do like you do if I was somewhere used Holleys are cheap !
