I don’t know why this is still being talked about Gasol ranked higher than Lebron in every defensive rating and metric and had a better team defensive rating. Lebron did something interesting after not getting it…..he quit trying. That is not the mentality of a winner. He could have easily gotten it the next year if he put in the same or more effort.
2014 he was still a great defender though what are you talking about marc got robbed of first team all defence because he was a great defender but lebron was robbed of the dpoty
I always say if it's left up to the media to vote on awards they'll collective do what it takes to keep lebron from being closer to their beloved Jordan as punishment for switching teams.
fun fact: LeBron should've been the first unanimous MVP before Steph, in 2013 lebron got all number 1 votes but the one vote Melo as number 1 who currently ranked at number 5 in mvp
Amazing. 8 minutes of "highlight" clips for LeFraud. Only half of them were fouls, another 40% were shots he made 3 inches from the basket, aka, his range. This 8 minutes really negates the 8,000 hours of clips of him; flopping, charging, traveling, whining, or, his personal favorite, being the all-time leader, turning the ball over. 😂
Lebron wasn’t robbed. He didn’t win it. Gasol had the grizzlies team playing amazing defense with him in the middle. Chase down blocks just mean you got beat to begin with.
Tony over LeBron. Durant stats against Tony Allen when they met in the Playoffs: (24 ppg, 31% FG, 5 TOV) Durant stats against LeBron in 2012 finals ( 30 ppg on 55% FG)
The fact this is the narrative shows that Marc gasol getting did dirty man. Marc gasol was the literal winner , he shouldn’t have been 2nd team . People just worship LeBron
Do you mean the year Marc Gasol was 2nd in defensive win shares and Lebron was 10th? The year Gasol was first in defensive box plus minus and Lebron was 5th? The year Gasol defensive rating was 5th and Lebron was 49th? Lebron was not robbed of DPOY in 2013, Gasol was robbed of being named to the All Defensive First Team
lebron wasn't even at that level of comparison yet, he was still being (semi-unfairly) laughed at for the 2011 finals and at the time only had one ring and two finals losses at that point, ur just legobbling rn brudda
The nba robbed Kobe of 4 MVPS and Kobe of defensive player of the year. The nba robs all superstars that deserve the accolades they should get and don’t.
He's missing an all-defense selection in 2006 and 2015. He lost an all-defense selection to Kirk Hinrich. He should have 8 instead of 6. He also lost the 2022 scoring title by 0.1ppg because Embiid decided to statpad.
Why didn't he go for the award the following year? Or the year after that? If he's so good defensively, surely he could have chased for the award if he was really that capable of winning it. Right?
People like LeBron James who were robbed so many times will go down in history as the greatest to ever do it. Trophies will not be enough, he has shown his greatness and that alone will prove him right.
Genuine question who did Bron lock up this yr? It seemed mainly like team defensive plays like blocks and steals, not sayin Marc Gasol locked up any bigs either but wonder what their difference was when guarding all star level players bc Gasol avg 2 blocks a game and 1 steal and Bron avg 2 steals a game and 1 block so that’s even but then I imagine Bron locking up more guys in position 1-5 and locking them up compared to Marc Gasol and if that’s the case Bron was def robbed
I know I would get a lot of hate from this, but as much as Lebron deserved it that year, Marc deserved it more and the NBA got it right. I admit, Lebron was so high this year, however let's not just focus on the highlights. Marc Gasol had the highest Defensive Win Shares of all the candidates. Even Serge Ibaka that year had a higher defensive win share than Lebron. Now why did I refer to defensive win shares? Coz that stat does not base itself on what position you play. If we only refer to blocks, then surely centers and big men will have higher averages, whereas if we refer to steals, wings get the edge. But aside from Defensive Win Shares, Marc Gasol also had the stats (Blocks, steals and rebounds) to back it up. I get it, we all love Lebron, and yes he deserves it but to say that Marc didn't is just pure hating. Also I think it's because Marc is not flashy, heck even Deandre Jordan was voted first team over Marc (which is funny btw), but it's because Deandre is more flashy than Marc.
Mind ya Gasol wasn’t even 1st team all defense when he won it and joakim noah and Tyson chandler CENTERS BTW WERE BOTH FIRST TEAM AHEAD OF GASOL….STRAIGHT ROBBERY WITH NO MASK
How do Bronsexuals process in their minds that he should’ve won dpoy when Shane Battier a guy whose never came close to making an all defense team would guard the toughest guy
if were being honest, he was also the mvp over rose. he was simply better with better stats. edit: rose has one of the weakest mvp stats of all time. not saying he played bad, to win an mvp, deserved or not, takes a lot of skill and obviously good stats. but the guy simply wasnt having the statistical impact almost all other mvps had.
All big defensive metrics had Gasol over LBJ, even by quite a bit: Defensive Win Shares: Marc Gasol: 5.4 (2nd place) LeBron James: 4.7 (10th place) Defensive Rating (Individual): Marc Gasol: 98 (6th place) LeBron James: 101 (49th place) Defensive Plus Minus: Marc Gasol: 3.1 (1st place) LeBron James: 2.4 (5th place) The Grizz where also the better defensive team that year. Defensive stats are always a bit muddy but to see Gasol higher in all the main ones says something. The LBJ mythos is growing out of control nowadays. Marc deserved that DPoY award
Well, despite I still believing that Bron deserved it, like to think Jokic deserved his 3rd mvp and not Embiid, at least you put Logical and objective Arguments to say why is correct that Gasol won it. Whatever happened, we can't change the past
he did out perform Torobtos high tech computer d trainer. According to Raptors analytics director Alex Rucker, LeBron plays defense like the idealized "ghost" defenders in the computer program play defense James can mimic [a computerized] hyperactive ghost in a way no other player can, Rucker says. 'LeBron basically messes up the system and the ghosts,' Rucker says. 'He does things that are just unsustainable for most players.'" insane
What a load. Marc Gasol was better than Lebron in defensive win shares, defensive box plus minus and defensive rating. He had better stats and was the best defender on a team that allowed 89 points per game. Lebron was good, but Gasol was great on D that year. If the league was trying to "pRoTeCt JoRdAn'S lEgAcY" Lebron wouldn't have been in the conversation at all being 49th in defensive rating.
Check the stats. It's not even close. Stop this "robbed" narrative. Gasol anchored the grit and grind grizzlies defense. That griz team had a leading scorer who scores just 15pts a game! They won a lot coz of defense. holding teams to 88points in the WEST! and that griz was nowhere near the level of a superteam that was on the cakewalk east.
It’s happens…wilt should have won at least 5-6more mvps than he did. But because bill russell (rip) was on a winning team..they rewarded that. Mj same thing maybe should’ve won 3-4 more mvps.
if he is such a defensive beast why did it take him 5 years before he was named to his first all defense team? if he is such a beast why does he only have 5 all nba first team defense selections, if he is so amazing at defense why has he not made the all nba defese team at all since 1014?
Looking back on the advanced stats. No. Marc was elite on that end. Lebron was as well. But when it comes down to the wire. They will always go with stats sometimes.

LeBron should've been the first unanimous MVP before Steph, in 2013 lebron got all number 1 votes but the one vote Melo as number 1 who currently ranked at number 5 in mvp
Amazing. 8 minutes of "highlight" clips for LeFraud. Only half of them were fouls, another 40% were shots he made 3 inches from the basket, aka, his range.
Lebron did outperform a high tech computer defense trainer that year.
Dumb thing is all year it was bron or ibaka who was gunna take it then announced marc gasol like what 🤔

Well, despite I still believing that Bron deserved it, like to think Jokic deserved his 3rd mvp and not Embiid, at least you put Logical and objective Arguments to say why is correct that Gasol won it.
Whatever happened, we can't change the past
So why did he get 2nd team?
he did out perform Torobtos high tech computer d trainer. According to Raptors analytics director Alex Rucker, LeBron plays defense like the idealized "ghost" defenders in the computer program play defense
James can mimic [a computerized] hyperactive ghost in a way no other player can, Rucker says. 'LeBron basically messes up the system and the ghosts,' Rucker says. 'He does things that are just unsustainable for most players.'" insane
Win shares for Gasol and other metrics were padded because the Whole grizzlies team was defensively elite
What a load. Marc Gasol was better than Lebron in defensive win shares, defensive box plus minus and defensive rating. He had better stats and was the best defender on a team that allowed 89 points per game. Lebron was good, but Gasol was great on D that year.
