Interesting about the orientation of OSB. Good info as always, from the *attic*!

One job, I went up in the attic, to check a leak, and I could smell bacon, while I was up there. Sure enough , the oven fan was set up, to blow into the attic,lol.. about a 6’ square area, the underside of the OSB, was all grease, from cooking! 😂

Great POP-UP appearance when your head quickly entered the attic at the very beginning. You made me laugh. Those spots have been leaking for a good while. One time I ordered 2 pallets of 3/4 OSB for new decking. I noticed that one was stamped "inspected" or "certified" (can't remember) and the other one was not. I sent back the non-certified pallet for a replacement. Got to always check. And always use those H-clips. They do a lot of good when the boards expand and contract. The small space provides space for the boards to "grow," all without causing warping.

Now I will do all thst but replace the vent with a 4” b vent and also a insulated vapour barrier hose. Taped with tuck tape both ends tightly

Plywood is also directional, especially for 3/8 or 1/2 inch. Wasted half a sheet to figure this out replacing some rotted valley plywood.

Interesting video thank you! Never heard about the osb and directional across the rafters but after seeing it makes perfect sense!
    Thanks for that!
Looks like lots of people worked on this house and not many knew what they were doing. Do you think the homeowner did the repairs? They didn’t have a permit they didn’t do lots of correctly duct tape on plumbing always bad, bathroom vent not insulated and not vented outside.
You did a good job pointing out all the improper stuff in minutes.
Nice quick and easy to follow.

Osb and plywood are to be run directional side to side not up and down. You are probably right about the shingles not run underneath the flange.

Foil vapor barrier on the insulation is backwards. As in "up" instead of "down" (towards the living area). Attic.

Great vid!👍I have a very similar problem. Had new roof put in, including plywood but new leak starting again right near chimney. Told the roofer and they said it’s a chimney problem - briefly looked at it but won’t touch it. Any advice on next steps?
    Thx

1:52 ....that 2 foot section your talking about, isn't even secured properly to the rafters that it's suppose to be nailed to. You can tell by all the nails that missed the beam that's supporting it. 🤔 I bet you can push up on that section of the roof.
Am I correct on my assessment?

Does it drive you absolutely nuts to see how many sheathing nails missed the roof trusses?

Just out of curiosity, is there any concern with the chimney flue having a darker stain where the seam is in the middle of the attic? Just wondering if there might be a leak of CO at the seam?

Thanks for this video. Storm just started and we bought house 3 mos ago. Roof inspection was done externally but never crawled in attic. It’s raining hard two days so decided curious to pop my head up in attic. Glad I caught it early on as surface lightly damp but dripping drip every 3 seconds.
It look like yours, water that size 1 foot away from bathroom vent. Assuming hard winds could’ve damage seal or flashing?
Thanks for some of tips to possibly repair so I can be on look out once it’s repair

You said bottom of a vent pipe, depending upon the age of the roof it's more than likely a nail near the bottom outer edge of the flashing that has rusted out and water is getting in. Without seeing it it's just a guess but usually that's what I find.

@@GrandRoofingInc thanks! Going up today and from a quick peep walking outside I can see some lifting in the flash vent for sure. Will screw down with rubber washer, and do some flex seal tape around it as precaution.

I will say this I have been using Zip Sheeting for two years for new roofs and redecks. I will use nothing else. Yes more money but time savings is huge.
