Amazing 4055 you got there. We have one and they seem to just be a hard working machine, although they do like to heat up real quick when doing heavy work.
nice video-boy what a difference in what 50 yrs can bring-huh. when my pap still had his farm, i got to drive the old JD B with a hag wagon hooked behind it thru the corn filed while several guys hand cut each individual stack and stacked them on the wagon, when full it was pulled to silo and hand tossed onto the blower. i loved it--cause i got to drive the tractor-lol!!
Yeah that's the way they did it! My dad talks about when he was younger he had a 1 row chopper that he pulled with his JD 50. He said it had enough power for the chopper until the wagon got full!
A 3 row head would definitely help us get more done, but would take a little more power than what we got! If we ever get a bigger tractor to chop with, a 3 row head would be something to get.
+Farm Grown, Country Strong on UA-cam yea we demonstrated a 3 row with our 2294 once and it was fine on flats but in mud or hills it could barley do it
I assume u have that 4055 turned up? That thing is only 110hp at the pto in stock form. I use to chop with a 4640 with no processor and it worked that tractor hard. Can't believe a 110 would be enough without s processor let alone with one.
Hell I used to chop with a 165 MF . And they are only rated 52hp. Pulled a one row IH model #16 chopper. And I know at least 15 -20 different small farms that chop with 706 ,856 IH , and 4020 JD pulling 2 rows and the 856 is the biggest and it's still only 100hp. So I don't know why you think you need these bigger tractors to chop with. I do agree that 130 hp handles it alot better but 80 - 100 works fine. Now I'm talking no processor too, I agree that sucks alot of power .
Yeah I know what you mean. We tried to get if off early, but one delay after another kept pushing our corn chopping back this fall. The moisture was still pretty good in it, but it was definitely drier than what we shoot for.
Yep! We were debating about getting a processor for a while, but and then we ended up getting a new chopper with a processor this fall before silage. It definitely makes a huge difference with the corn; especially this fall with how dry the corn ended up being when we got to it. The cows are definitely 'processing' it better too.
It's definitely drier than what we'd prefer, but it'll be okay. There's still a good amount of moisture in it yet. Preferably we'd have started on it several weeks ago, but there was just one delay after another!
Back in the 60's we just added a little water from a hose as we blew it into the Harvester silos if it was this far along. All came out great in the winter for the dairy herd to eat.
sweet tractor, i would love a 55 series. we skipped from a 40 series to the 7000 series but like i say if i find a deal on a 4055 or 4255 i am going to get one.
This motor would put out standard power spec without the turbo. With the turbo she is a 180 motor turned down big time.. Give her a screw and 150 all day long on a 3 row header, 50hp per row is enough
A very good video about chopping corn silage and you got beautiful machinery. Thanks for showing.
Thank you, and thanks for watching!

Nice 4055 you got there. I always thought the Deere 55 series were the coolest tractors Deere ever made.
Thanks, dad bought it new in '92. Whenever I get into a "tractor debate", I always say that the 55 series were the epitome of tractors!
Nice looking equipment. Just found your channel looks like I'll have to check it out interesting stuff.
Thanks and thanks for stopping by!
Do you need an extended hitch for your tractor?
Had a NH880 when I farmed. New Holland choppers are probably the best on the market in my opinion.
why not have a 3 row head?
A 3 row head would definitely help us get more done, but would take a little more power than what we got! If we ever get a bigger tractor to chop with, a 3 row head would be something to get.

No believe it or not that's stock, never turned up. A different farmer we knew of had a 4055 and turned it up to a 4455 level though.
Farm Grown, Country Strong dang. Turn that thing up! It's just the s crew on the fuel pump lol.

Why would cows want to eat dried out corn stalks versus green.
Yeah I know what you mean. We tried to get if off early, but one delay after another kept pushing our corn chopping back this fall. The moisture was still pretty good in it, but it was definitely drier than what we shoot for.
Looks like u guys traded ur old forage harvester for a new one that has a processor
Yep! We were debating about getting a processor for a while, but and then we ended up getting a new chopper with a processor this fall before silage. can I buy that 4055 some day if you ever trade it in???
I don't know, I have a hard time imagining ever selling that thing! ;) Love that tractor!!! We use it for all of our chopping every year.
the corn looks a little dry for chopping. or is it just right for you guys
It's definitely drier than what we'd prefer, but it'll be okay. There's still a good amount of moisture in it yet. Preferably we'd have started on it several weeks ago, but there was just one delay after another!
pse I want purchase this chopper (fp230) only send price and procedure about this from pakistan

Very nice chopper. What year is it?
Thanks, it's a 2015. We've had a different NH chopper for a long time, but just recently picked up this one with a crop processor.

Nice looking 4055 not to many look that nice anymore.

Shut that back window Lol
Sometimes I just love listening to the chopper! ;)

They were good tractors! Deere made a lot of good New Generation 2 tractors there.
Perché fate un insilato secco..
55 alive
