      @@superfluous9726 no. Vicuñas are not pets. Try an alpaca instead.

    I love how the hail drove the humans to shelter from pain but the vicuña were just like, hm what?

    The word vicuna came from Quechua. Its genus name Vicugna and species name vicugna both mean vicuna. Its species name is also a throwback to its first Latin name Camelus vicugna. Can you believe that?

    SHEARED, not SHEERED. Please fix this typo in the text description.
    Very nice video. Sad to see the Vicunas so stressed out and deprived of their fur when it is snowing and hailing, but then again, they live free all year outside, no cages, and this is a good arrangement. Nice photography, loved the pan pipes!

      On another documentary about 🦙 vicuna says they were once about to get extinct w/ the count of 65. Im glad they're increasing in numbers now.

    I hope that one day we can get our hands on shahtoosh fabric from Chiru Tibetan Antelope. I heard their wool is just as supreme quality as vicuna.

  • @ceciliaque5564

    Don’t they need their wool? Like they get cold too.

    • @OurHumanPlanet
      @OurHumanPlanet  3 роки тому +5

      Their wool is incredibly thick and warm - under normal conditions even that thin layer is enough. If it rains shortly after they get released and their wool gets soaked and then there's a cold snap they're in trouble, so the villagers don't sheer/release them unless they know the weather will be clear.

      Why don’t they make the clothes themselves and keep all profit in the country? That’s the part that baffles me

      @@joinantonius2 They don't have the resources to turn it into bolts of cloth. What's crazy is they only get around 1k for the families. A Vicuna blazer can sell for 50k.
