    I could listen to this man play drums all day. By far my favorite and drummer of all time. He is the driving force and funky on/off beat rythmatic genius behind one of the best bands of our generation. Anyone who disagrees needs to get behind a kit and try to keep up with every note played...good luck.

      I agree 100% with that statement.... i have watched it now will be my fith time for this video. as soon as i got over being wowed... that was the first words out of my mouth..... i just found my favorite drummer, mind you i have no favorite drummers because there is a lot of incredible drummers out there. i have to add, drummers living.... Because of well you can guess.... but to name a few,Tim Alexander, Tony Royster Jr. Neil of course etc etc Chad Smith. But Damn it man this guy is freaking incredibly amazing.... ! cant believe im just now discovering him. i have a 311 cd and i know the drummer was great, never checked it out, should be ashamed. hahaha

      Jess B Nick Hexum misses so many notes, and his voice itself is weak and bland. SA.. ehhhh, he's ok. The rest of the band, Tim, Chad, and Pnut, are the real talent. I wish they would've broken up years ago and started their own thing.

    love that snare sound, it's the ideal snare sound for me, many drummers like to drown out their snare by putting too much gel or tape on the batter head, basically killing any resonance and choking out the snares.

      Rim shots brother, rim shots
      ua-cam.com/video/2DRRiWN9qkw/v-deo.html
      Through a full band mix you lose the metallic ping a bit, and the snare becomes like a gunshot I love it too.

    Chad is one of the greatest BECAUSE he's himself. He's not trying to dazzle anyone by going as fast as possible while playing. He's very focused and so technical with his drumming, it's an absolute pleasure to watch and listen.

    I actually like a lot of 311 because of this dude's percussion style. He adds to the music and still draws the song towards the percussion.

  • @ia5662
    @ia5662 6 років тому +1

    Chad is so severely underrated, even as a guitar player mainly, I know this. He's criminally forgotten on loads of top 100 drummer lists. He's personally in my personal top 10. The man has his own style, I think it's pretty damn cool he came from a drum line background too. Probably why you don't hear many 311 covers outside the easy stuff like Amber, I don't think many drummers can hack it.

    • @paisteuser06
      @paisteuser06 9 років тому

      Every hit on the snare is a rimshot, that's why it sounds the way it does on top of it being micd and mixed through the sound engineer. A lot of guys think he has his snare tuned way tight, which it isn't, because when he hits the snare without it being a rimshot, it has a lot of body and depth, and doesn't just sound like he's playing on a counter top. He has a video about the way he hits his snare. I liked his OCDP snares better before he switched to Pearl.

    Met him decades ago at the defunct Ranch Bowl in Omaha NE when they were starting out. He was really cool and laid back. I remember asking him about his free floating snare drum. He was one of my early influences with Tim Alexander, Chad Smith, and of course Stewart Copeland, the greatest.

    I just hate his choice in snares. Not a fan of that piercing metallic pings. Everything else on his kit sounds great. Loved how he mixed up his bass drum as most drummers tend to just do singles or nothing at all while they move around the kit on solos.

I love his playing.But I have to say when I see him do double stroke rolls it makes me chuckle.Cause it looks so elementary.It works for him.It just looks so beginner style.And he's such an accomplished player I'm surprised he does that.
