- This video is about one option to upgrade your old alternator on a Slant 6 (and other Mopars) using the stock regulator. You can not use the stock body harness especially if your car uses a factory amp gauge.
When the factory 120A unit failed on my '88 Ramcharger TBI 5.2L... while running a full MSD system... I replaced it with a Trak-Auto rebuild. (
Those Nippon Denso alternators are great units. I did this swap on my slant 6 in the summer as I had the old one from my 93 dodge ram diesel as I thought it was the problem it wasn't it was a power relay. anyway, it's got around 350,000 km on it and bearings are still like new. bearing on the old-style alternator were also noisy.
It would be nice to know if you removed material from the FRONT, REAR, or both the F & R of the alternator bracket to accommodate and align the narrow ND alternator.
Mostly front with a little off of the rear once it was lined up.
Does the regulator need to be changed out as well
Full Force I used the the 70’s factory style electric regulator.
Nice job!!
Stock has only 35 amps? Wow
I bet that would fry a factory dash in a hurry.
I'm pretty sure he bypasses the ammeter with around 6 gauge wire straight to the battery. I bypass with 10 gauge but planning on upgrading to 6 gauge. I also removed the ammeter too.
