    That amp was built in Korea by Chung Lam, a factory that also built amps for Kicker, Harmon, Crossfire & I'm sure other brands that I can't recall. The previous posters are correct - this was originally a Fultron amp & it was available in White or Mint Green. We also did a 6 channel that was 40wx4 + 75Wx2. Here's a pic of the one I still own. When we re-branded as Memphis Car Audio, we did that same heatsink in Chrome, but I vaguely remember some in Black as well. The 6 channel never made it into the MCA brand. The first Memphis Belle amps used this same HS. It was the 4 channel & 2 channel PC Boards in 1 long HS side by side. One of the design flaws of this amp was that if the output transistors overheated, they could literally burn through the PC Board, making the amp unfeasible to repair. These were some good times working with good people!

    Whenever i see these series of old school M-class Memphis amps on eBay or marketplace i buy them up. Owned them back in highschool when I was 16 . ( im 41 now) I have 8 of them now from mono blocks,2 channels and 4 channels. The sq is amazing on all of them. The one 250(150rms at 4 and 250rms at 2 ohms)mono amp i have, it's hooked up to a RF HX2 d4 12" sub in a sealed box( sub is 500 rms and 1000 max ) and it slams great and clean. I also have mono and 4 channel amps of revised or newer model (same M-Class just a black-ish brown color) that's considered old school. Sounds amazing

      We all have of flavor or gear. Mine changes as I find these gems. I took a gamble on this one and after looking at it I could tell it was something special, not just a some cheap copy. I am amazed that some of the Korean amps from this period were in fact good stuff. Thanks for watching and check out the newest video on the ARC audio find. Please subscribe if you haven't!

    I've owned a few 300-4 memphis amps. They sounded good to me. Back in the 90s I blew up a fosgate 4080dsm that ran my whole system. I put in the 300-4 as a replacement. It sounded good, didnt have the pop of the fosgate but sounded better on the mids and highs then the 4080.

    These were pretty decent amps. Yes the 4 channel you have there is the same board that was in the Belle, and the 150x2 amp was the other in the Belle. I ran a Belle in usac in 99. Did quite well. The shop I hung out in was a memphis dealer and I got to know the rep quite well. The original Belle was Fultron branded and mine was Memphis branded, but I had it before they were officially on the market. They have a bit of a cult following.

      Put me in that bit of the "cult" following. Memphis was and still is my go to audio since highschool 1999-ish . I have many series of this type of M-Class amplifier and buy them whenever they're on eBay or marketplace, same goes for the subs and speakers from this era. Also the old school DD audio ( before the Internet sales started) and USAmps, Atomic audio, Genesis and old school Focal. Old school stuff was just built better

      @@DanielStahler-m8f You are a decade younger than me so our "old school" years are different! I consider anything class AB older than 2005 to be acceptable though! This stuff is out there and I have stopped looking for specific amps. Now I stumble across ones I never would have looked for, and for really cheap, like $50 range. I hope to do some "car audio history" videos in the future. What do you think of that? I have some contacts I can do interviews with.

    Old school name of
    Memphis was called Fultron. I had a similar 5 channel amp and it had crisp power.

    Memphis makes good stuff and has been making good stuff. I've owned Memphis subs (Power Reference 15") and amps (MCH1000.1D) and was happy with all of it.

    So the amp is late 90’s. Fulton became Memphis and the board came along. It was make in Korea and also was used in a crossfire amp. This board was also used in the Memphis belle amps. This was a serious amp offering and not just some clone. I got this info from someone who worked for the company at this time period.

    my guess they were putting holes to try to kool it down my be if you play it for 10 15 mins at a high volume maybe it cuts out or shuts off or they had it running at to low of a ohm but what i would do sense its so old i forgot what you those things that are normaly on the rails but are on the board on this amp un screw all those metal pieces that have the 1 screw and get some computer Prosser paste called artic silver and clean those and put new paste on them all and i bet the amp will run cooler and last along time

  • @joshholden8561
    @joshholden8561 3 місяці тому

    The waters was extremely low because the impedance rise was so high like 8-15 ohms

    pretty sure i had a silver memphis amp like that 20 years ago in was skinnyer and longer and it was a class d that on is definitely class ab but they were decent amps and they did have decent old school subs the ones with the orange baskets the mojo and there one higher then that has a huge basket think it was called LVS

    • @DanielStahler-m8f
      @DanielStahler-m8f 3 місяці тому

      That was most likely the 500D or 1000D mono amp. I have a few of them. The LVS you're referring to had double spider's and you could get them with multiple voice coil configurations. I believe ( not a 100% sure about that, been a few years) up to 4 voice coils on one. sub. When I was in high school,the "facility" where I bought my car audio from ( Sounds & Motion was the name) got a pair of the LVS 15" prototypes to test before released to the public. (I'm sure a few other dealers got the same treatment) And OH BOY, loud was an understatement. Had 4 M-class 1000D's hooked up to each sub in a hatchback civic looking car( wasn't a Honda, it began with a D) in a wall configuration firing into the car. One directly behind each front seat and the car was heavily sound dampened and spray foamed. Holy sh!ttt it was almost loud, barely cranked when I sat in the car, for me to enjoy. The SHP was the next series down from the LVS and then the HP series that I had.

  • @Mark_5150

    I think a lot of amps back in the day were better built and had better SQ. Over the years manufacturers figured out how to maximize profits by pushing the limits of what the average consumer could detect, as far as noise and output power. Not to mention buying off the shelf boards that most brands use now
    I saw an old Targa amp on eBay not long ago; the same model I had back in the 90s and it was made in Korea. Now, that's some of the best amps, but back then it's where budget amps were made.

    • @Hi-Fire-do
      @Hi-Fire-do  4 місяці тому +1

      I think back in the day the Korea was just like now, with generic boards and such, but the introduction of Class D stuff that is cheap to make has made this stuff affordable, but it has no quality or soul. This memphis amp is REALLY well made even for back then
