Most RIDICULOUS amp on the Dyno Bench! Watch and laugh...
Are some good mid/budget tier ab amps you would recommend?
To be honest I’m not sure. I have tested several modern class d monoblock amps that are affordable, but it seems most of the budget companies are really focusing g on the clone monoblock stuff. Likely because the cheaper class D full range amps are terrible. I would look at Alpine, Rockford Fosgate to be able to give you something decent for the price range you are in. It’s hard to get the bigger companies to offer stuff up to test. I can’t buy anymore stuff to test. Please subscribe. It helps.
What stood out to me. On the ATG Was the channel behind the fet,s when the fets warm up that it will actually draw air into the channel and help keep the heat sink cooler.. not a whirlwind of air.. but enough. Yet i can buy 3 cheaper amps for the same price as one atg. For back ups.
You can buy 10 pairs of cheap sneakers or Nikes. Who wants to keep swapping junk out. It’s components and build quality that cost money. At least you can identify the features here. Sometimes you can’t and that’s when you are truely get ripped. The ATH is closer to $300 actually. The info they told me was wrong. They contacted me after the video was out. Dummies. lol.
I f anyone disagrees all you have to do is listen to a A/B amp and a class D amp of the same wattage and the sound is night and day no question.
So far that is my experience. I haven’t invested in anymore expensive class d amps but if they come my way I will follow up! Thanks. Hope you subscribe for more.
I happened across a video of Dean and Fernando testing this same amplifier. They also could only get about 1200 w at 1 ohm. At 2 ohm about 900w.
Interesting. I have another power supply I’m gonna add to run in parallel to help voltage drop. 1280 @ 12.8 should do a bit more at 13.6 or so. I would guess it should do it’s rated. Do sure why you would buy a $400 amp and spend a few thousand on alternators, wiring, and batteries. lol. In an upcoming video I’m gonna put some of these woofers in my Silverado and test them. It’s crazy how load a single 12” can do.
FYI this stuff is actually cheaper than I posted. They contacted me. I will do a follow up video in the near future.
I can get the flax PS165FXE the 2 way for 350 usd in Norway. Just wondering what the price is over in the states. The 3 way flax are around 550 usd here as well
We got ours from extremecaraudio.de they have great prices and ship from Germany. We will have the shallow flax set ready to test in a few weeks.
how would you compare them to the focals you tested?
They are definitely more stout and sound way better but they are 2-3 times more!
Love em. Have a nice live sound. Reminds me of my in ear monitor from live performances
They are nice and really stout.
@rawcat questions
What a steal
would have been if the monoblock wasn't DOA. I did get a refund
Almost EVERYTHING does rated power now. If you are new to Car audio, you can stay with budget bangers suck as Skar , CT Sounds and NVX. Although those are budgets, the top tier line of each one does have some nice sound to them and quality. But the point I’m trying to make is if you’ve never ran anything that’s high-end next to each other. You would never know the difference anyway. As long as it’s making its rated power it’s perfectly fine. Most people have no idea what they’re doing in car audio. They don’t even know how to wire something up. I was the same way when I was younger, but when I was 18 years old, it was also 1994. Now you can just Google subwoofer wiring diagrams and completely get the breakdown on how to wire up any subwoofer anyway you need to. I just sold an Infiniti Kappa 1000 to a guy two days ago. Its max rating is 450 W with 89 dB of sensitivity And only has 11 mm of X max one of the best sounding subwoofers you’ll ever hear. The guy paired it up in a box with no idea how the wiring already was because he pre-bought it from someone with a DB drive woofer that was most likely rated at 800 W or a mess and probably 16 mm of X max. The point I’m trying to make is everybody has a specific sound they’re looking for. Most kids and young adults like myself when I was younger are looking for loudness. Once you get older and you start to value your hearing, you start to refine the qualities that you listen for an SQ becomes your main focus.
totally agree with you. This woofer did pound and handled a lot of power, but on actual music it was too boomy. I also switched it to my unnamed woofer aka "R" and it paled in comparison at a pretty similar price point. People have always wanted to get what they pay for in car audio, and there has always been those that screw you, we called them poser brands! As always, thanks for the comments!
You think everything goes rated power now? Definitely not. Other people have tested this same amplifier and only got maybe 1200-1300 watts. So this one does not make rated power. It can be a real roll of the dice with amplifiers. The Infinity subs are usually hand me down designs from the JBL subs. Whenever a JBL sub is discontinued, they will change it cosmetically and sell it as the newest Infinity sub. The very latest Infinity Kappa sub with SSI is the cosmetically changed JBL Stadium sub. I've got the Stadium 12" and it is quite amazing. It's one of the fastest and most dynamic subs I've heard and it plays flat down to 22hz. Really amazing for around $120.
I would love the test that infinity sub. It looks cool. Spoiler. The A**ne type R was much better than this ATG for overall output as well as musically. They are similarly priced.
I've recently been testing a 12" Type R, since they are so popular. I got a previous generation one, like from around 2020. In my opinion, it's all rumble and no impact. Not very musical. Fine for rebassed music, but lacks that fast, dynamic punch you want for traditional music. Great efficiency and gets loud, but not suited for a high end sound quality build. I think the current JBL Club, Arena X and Stadium (now the Kappa SSI model) all sound better. Tested on a Rockford amp (Prime 500.1) as they can produce the fast pulses and control the subs better than some other brand amplifiers. All the subs were tested in the same ported box. 2 cubes net, tuned to 22hz with 6" cylindrical port in a full size suv. My theory is Alpine chose to sacrifice a bit of SQ in order to achieve that huge Xmax and Xmech. I'd like to test the model below the Type R, called the Type S. It looks pretty interesting.
@ Those Infinity’s are the best I have ever owned. Didn’t know about the JBL situation. I actually thought it was the other way around when Infiniti would discontinue something they would pass it on to the JBL line. I guess around 25 years ago I had some JBL 12s couldn’t stand the way. They sounded very weak. But then again that was a long time ago and to be honest it was probably an entry-level sub. Just curious, have you ever heard in person a Rockford Fosgate 10 inch P3? I can’t help but wonder which one would be better sounding the infinity that I have the high-performance line or the Rockford Fosgate P3? I honestly don’t know maybe the infinity is a tad bit more musical but the Fosgate is still known to be a SQ sub that can deliver a lot of low end.
These sound great and with an active setup they would kill. Wow thanks dude
Active can make some bad speakers livable. These did well. I have some other sets to test again soon My next video I test a $2000 2 way set!
Liked and subscribed. New follower. Love the show man
Thanks. Let me know what you would like to see more of. New amp tests?, Speaker tests? Oldschool gear? Junky yardsale/thrift store finds? Personally I like the last two categories!
Please don't refer to these amps as being identical. They are obviously completely different. It's kind of like comparing a 1/2 ton Ford pickup truck to a 1/2 ton Chevy pickup truck. Yeah, they both have 4 wheels, a frame and a bed, but if your familiar with trucks, you know they are not identical. Both of these amplifier companies built their own version amp from the same basic, older amplifier blueprint. The basic board layout is similar, but that's all they have in common. 👍
Brother, you just said the same thing I said in the video!
Cool.
Try these 3-way component brands: SHCA, CT Sounds Meso, Down4Sound... Looking to build home HiFi
That could work. Parts express has a lot of affordable drivers that would work. Although how I test them is similar to using g in home use. Go for it. Thanks for the reply.
Are you gonna review that atg 12? I got two of them used for a crazy deal and am gonna put them in my buddies car for his first system just wanna know if it’ll be enough or I gotta backtrack

The Stinger 2K ample blow that thing away and it's for half the cost and just made a hell of a lot better. Does the box say made in Germany? Because I was told that the Germany quote comes only from the silk over the tweeter. The silk is from Germany, the rest is from China. So lots of speculation.
I might question the made in Germany, as one of the tweeters was dead right out of the box! Yes, these are made in China. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe for more
My man you need to replace those rca's immediately. Let me let you into a small secret. Get the mogami quad directional and the Canare star quad. They will be a revelation. You will hear the amps as they were intended.
I hear you. The biggest issue is I am connecting and disconnecting those cable so much that they wear out in a few months. I have some better ones I will put in there when I redo the bench in the hopefully near future. To be honest. A few years back I did a test with two sets of 16’ cables. One very cheap and one that was reasonably expensive. I didn’t notice a difference. Maybe some high tech measuring equipment could but my ears could not. My bench has a total of 8 pairs or cables. Maybe I can get a sponsor! Thanks for watching. I am always upgrading as time and money is available!
good unit when it works. will need new laser and recap.
I asked Jeff Priddy about fixing it. He never really got back to me and I forgot. Cosmetically it is good. I have a few slightly new units that I was hoping might be able to sacrifice their guts to fix this one. Just not wanting to spend a ton to fix it. I have a lot of Alpine head units if you have watched any of my other videos. Thanks for watching. Hope youre subscribed! I have a lot of old school stuff.
We sold them at ultimate electronics right before they went out of business in 2006. D3 was their middle line. D9 was their top high end line. Sold and installed several of these, was never very impressed tbh. I like the first generation Alpine PDX line over these, and the Alpine PDX wasn't anything spectacular if that says anything
So did these amps come out in 2006? The oldest reviews I saw for this model was 2008.
Good to know. I always think of Diamond as a cheap brand, but I know they once were near a premium brand (like so many others). Opening them up wasn't really impressive. I was hoping to use them in a customers car and make a few $$$. I appreciate your always useful insight. Thanks BTW, I got the chance to demo a set of JL C7's on my bench. You will have to wait for the video on my opinion!
@jasonww2000. I can actually look up the exact date when we received the first one as I was in charge of ordering but iirc it was 3rd quarter of 2005. Ultimate electronics always seemed to get Diamond first as we were a flagship dealer for them and we sold a TON of Diamond. Honestly was never impressed with any of it with the exception of the D6 components which were ok I suppose, but I was upset that Boston disappeared at that time so that was the line they decided to pick up. I was pushing for Focal back then and they just wouldn't listen sadly. Well we've all seen where Focal is now and where Diamond is
@melissathompson7229 This brings back memories. My first really good component set was the Diamond DA 6.6. Eventually I overheated them. My guru/dealer said, "Hey, try these mids". Turns out they were Focal K2's. I was in love again. I've used K2's ever since. I noticed that Diamond products seemed to get cheaper and cheaper. It's like they gradually declined.
I’m sure the car audio industry was really crazy back at that time. So many Legacy companies went away or were bought for a name. When industries lose passion, and focus on profits, the decline is near. Thanks for the info.
i was at a salvation army couple of years ago and picked 2 matching pair of pioneer gm-d8400m class d amps 15 dollars for the pair and they work and i still have them i hooked them up to my old punch power dvc 12in subs put 1 amp on each sup and they were slamming they have 2 30 amp fuses you know you can buy car audio from i think its either goodwill or salivation army online and get it shipped
I have seen that. I look once in a while. Please subscribe for more, oh I have more!
the mono block amp may just have some cold solder joints preventing it from outputting anything. for some reason the big blue relays you pointed out that kick the output to the speaker terminals after the amp circuits have energized sometimes like to go cold
Good to know. I thought I heard it click, but it might have been the 4 channel amp. I’m gonna mess with it today a bit before I take them back. Thank you
@@Hi-Fire-do i heard it click too, but they can click, yet not pass any signal depending on which pins have broken connection
@@RavenousBitchProductions Without knowing how it outputs I'm not going to mess with it. These are just OK, I was hoping to use them in a customer build and make a few $$$$. thanks
Those big sandcast resistors in the 500.4 are on the output section. So it looks like two FETs per channel. It's class AB. On a class D 4 channel amp, you wouldn't have the big resistors and you'd see 4 inductors. That older Arc amp seems quite a bit older. Looking at specs, it seems they are not FETs but BJTs. Bipolar junction transistors. I'm not very familiar with those. I'm going to guess and say that they are fairly low power handling which is why you see so many of them. The 500.4 must have newer designed FETs that can handle more current. That's why there are only 2 per channel.
You see the side of the amp where the big transformer is, that's the power supply side. The transistors closest to the transformer are the ones switching for the power supply. The other half of the amp is your output section, which has transistors for the output channels.
Awesome. Thanks for the info.
If your data sheet is correct, it was not assembled in USA. They definitely would have bragged about that. Frankly, the specs do not look very good. What's up with a sub amp that's only rated to play down to 40hz? Very strange. Must be a typo. I get the impression that these models are not very high end. They seem a bit cheaply designed. I don't think Zeff would have design these particular models. They do look nice, though. Looks like they came out around 2008-2010
I think the company was sold about that time. These were their top stuff I believe. I’m bummed the monoblock is dead.
If it was super cheap you should have tried to diagnosis and repair the amp. That would have been cool. Im about to start soldering as a hobby. If im any good at it, i might purchase a cheap broken amp to attemp a repair.
come on . he cant recognize a relay and the transistors of the channels and distinguish mosfets and diodes from those transistors .
@@tolgadabbagh1877 Not everyone knows electronics
No he can’t. I’m a manufacturing engineer not an electronics repairman.
I spent sometime today looking at it. I’m good at lots of things including diagnosing electrical, but I don’t have the time to pick up a new trade. I have some soldering work to do and need to practice a bit before I butcher something up!
Thanks buddy. I can only be good at so many things.
6:30 those white Sand cast resistors are a dead giveaway that the amp is a Class A/B. Love Diamond Audio's gear and ran it in my Van and Cars over the years. It's pricey, don't know much about the newest stuff they carry, but the Fiberglass mid bass drivers were out of this world great. Not sure about their amps as I never could justify leaving something so top tier in my Daily. I also have to admit I have never seen these models.
I think they are likely mediocre. I couldn’t find prices on them.
$450 for plastic and poly?! How does Sky High do it with machined baskets, neo magnets, and carbon cones for $150 more. You’re definitely buying the name, just like their overpriced subs and amps

no matter how you spin it. That amp and that sub for $219 dollars seems like robbery. That is an amazing deal!
It’s definitely not junk. While it may be the same or similar to others stuff, it’s really cheap and likely you will get better service. The company seems legit. Thanks for watching. I hope you are subscribed.
@@Hi-Fire-do I have dealt with them I actually have a feature coming up on my show soon. They seem attentive at least to me. I like to pay attention to the budget end of the niche helps keep prices down. ;)
@BassDad-TV yeah. So it seems that companies are using small social media entities to do their marketing. Or affordable and seem impartial and legitimate to consumers. Hyanka as well as others have never asked or made any demands after offering equipment to test. These guys follow up and if you look they even left comments. Makes me wonder who actually these companies are and how they operate. Heck they could be AI contacting us!
I had a pair of those subs and I was amazed at how good they were. I've had plenty of subs that cost way more but weren't as musical as them. For everyday driving subs, you can't beat them. They're very well built, sound spectacular, and cost almost nothing. I bought them early so I paid $89 apiece for them.
I was expecting a really boomy sound from them or lazy response on just everyday music, but yeah they just did their thing. Just for reference I did swap them for an unnamed expensive sub we will call “R” and there was a difference, but at 1/3 the price! China mass production for the win. Thanks for watching. I hope you are subscribed to see more!
It sounds like you had to talk yourself into liking them....... you should heads up against the NVX 3ways
I kinda did. They have a different sound. They are very mellow and never too much. Most speakers need to be adjusted down, while these need to be turned up in the same place others get turned down. Hope you’re subscribed. Thanks for watching.
nice nice
Thanks!
This set up looks awesome!
I bought the under seat sub and it is good!!!
I might check one out. Thanks.
thanks for testing this setup. i would agree that hyanka is a great price/performance brand. i've heard one hyanka setup and it was awesome
Other companies are selling the same or similar for more. It's solid for the price. Hope you subscribe.
@@Hi-Fire-do i've been subbed already for quite awhile 👍
I keep seeing these and wanted to check them out, so thanks for that. The sub looks really nice for the price man.. I couldnt build one that cheap if I had to buy glues and everything. They both remind me of skar, EVL and RP line. I just checked the price on the sub, it has a 10% off coupon right now! 107, killer deal.
Go get one! This stuff is budget, but its solid stuff. Keep in mind other companies are likely selling the same stuff for more. Hope you're subscribed!
I doubt that S/N on that JL. Would love to see actual channel separation & damping factor.
Talk to the Raw-cat guy. Thats way above me. I didn't need measuring equipment to hear the noise and the high pitch squeal. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe for more
I am an alpine head unit (the nice competition level units) collector. If you are to acquire any more I suggest the 7842 is affordable a bit rare but it has bbe and puts out the cleanest signal through for the sub outs out of the most affordable ones. I cant choose one as the best but from my collection top three are CDA-7969 (ultra rare and hard to get) CDA-7949 not that rare but expensive and last but not least 7865
I need to look at what I have.
What do you think of the last to units on my bench? The 3rd unit is really cool. It’s from 2000 and it’s AiNet, no internal amp. I believe it was the top unit for the year. I only wish it was green like the one to the left of it which is from the same year, which I got it new in the box. The far right has optical and also has the imprint capability. Weird it doesn’t have a motorized face. Of course the 5903 on the far left. I love that thing. It is in really nice shape, but I need a bezel for it. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe.
@Hi-Fire-do yeah those are cool. I also got that equalizer you have and and a bunch of others. Alpine itself stopped making their own units from scratch in the start of 2000. Before 2000 all units were designed and built with alpine specific circuitry, chips and mechanics. After 2000 they turned just like every other legendary brand into the "from the generic parts bin" business model. On the pre 2000 units there is a lot of cool tricks you can do. Swap faceplates for different. Colors. Integrate balanced ins and outs. If they are amp less you can put amp chips on them.

@@Hi-Fire-do I just shot you a message
I love what you’re doing, but clean that camera lens! It looks like you’re in a poker room & everybody is smokin cigars! How do I reach ya about sending the ADS 320i’s?
It’s the LED lighting. Watch my last video and let me know what you think. Keep in mind I don’t make money on these videos nor am I selling anything. Hope you subscribe for more.
Had the Hertz Mille in my car, and swapped them for the Focal PG’s with the TN47 tweets & just kept them in check. Have you tried the LP components? Their 6.5’a play low & are unbelievably accurate. I have a set of ADS 320i’s, I’ll reach out.
That would be great. Who is LP?
I run class A/B on my entire system. My last set up was all linear power 3-2.2’s & a 4.1hv that ran two RE Audio 12” SXXv2’s I believe. The accuracy in the subs was a HUGE difference from my 1500bdcp, which is not a bad sounding amp! But the class A/B moves the subs so much faster than the class d’s. I am currently going all RF power DSM’s, & nib old school MB Quart. Great video, thanks for All the content.
NIB mb quart is awesome. Would love to demo those. Metal baskets and paper cones and German engineering for the win.
Need to figure out a way to contact in a private manner so we can discuss.
Good video!..I'm thinking of getting the CT Sounds "Meso" 6.5...i would love to see what your thoughts on that . Thanks for reading
My very first video I did many months ago I tested them with a few others. Watch that one. 3 way components shootout. do they all sound the same? ua-cam.com/video/5dk8mfCCDzI/v-deo.html
Great videos! From reading all the comments...most people are out to get "the most bang " for their buck. Hertz/FOCAL etc.....as great as they may sound, could be out of most viewers pocket book range. My 2 cents. Keep up the reviews..i will be watching!
I show that the Focal 165as3 from that eBay store are great and affordable, unless. You are looking for $100 speakers, which I just did a few videos on some cheap speakers that don’t suck. Hope you subscribe for more!
Loved the series! I'm still looking for some good component speakers to keep up with 4 12s in a bed box (blow-through)..I keep seeing DS18?...please demo them soon!
The ds18 are just clone speakers like many of the sets out there. I think they are a bit expensive for the set. I have lots of stuff I will be selling. You can contact me directly on Instagram. instagram.com/hifi_re_do?igsh=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA==
