Tire makers and regulators used to say "throw them out" at 8 years as the rubber oxidizes and dry rots. Now they say 6 years. Either way, consider storing them with talc (blocks oxidation) or Armorall and then storing each in a Space Bag or other airtight container. For long term storage, it literally stops the clock.
Of course the tire makers say throw them out, so you can buy new ones. But really tires just become a little stiffer with age and yes do lose some traction, but so what. Around the farm, on country roads, so long as not doing burnouts, you can be fine. But yeah, any way to store them to reduce out gassing and oxidation is a good idea!

Because prepping for a war will not work. I live 500 km from the war zone in Ukraine and I can tell you russians wil just enter your house and take everything they want and you cant do anything about it. If you want to prepare for war and you know there will be war in your area work on your bug out bag and car. Stacking supplies is waste of resources.
I have rice and beans under the bed. It gives us great peace of mind. We're building a new house and hope to move in next May. The next big project when we're settled will be a large root cellar. We will be growing our own and raising our own hens and rabbits etc. The plan then is to work on building up our resilience through skills and self suffiency and working with our brothers family and some good neighbours. We do have a long way to go but we have started. This is a good vid Cody. People will feel better if they start taking steps.
yeah this is good stuff! This country was built off of independence. It is important to be prepared and able to take care of ourselves and our families.
Three separate times in my life I have had to rely on my food storage for survival, and none were natural disasters or civil unrest. But all would have been financial disaster had we not been prepared in advance. For me, being prepared is a no brainer! It's a bit arrogant to believe you are above hardship.
What you are doing and what you’ve said makes total sense. I really like that you covered more than just food. Being debt free is one of the most important things we can do. Having some funds in the bank, out of the bank, and in other forms can be helpful. Storage of food, water, other supplies, even at the smallest levels can get us through tough times (job loss, medical issues, lack of supply at grocery stores, etc.). We have to take care of ourselves before we can help others. Having enough allows us to support our families, neighbors, friends and fellowman at large. Having your own garden, even if small, can help the family. Grow what you will eat. The only thing I don’t understand was the comment on Mormons hoarding food. I am a Mormon and we don’t “hoard” food but we have been taught for ages on exactly what you are talking about. For the same reasons. But as a church, it is also for our fellowman. You did say that yourself. As a fellow Christian, i appreciate what you are teaching others. I also realize we have differences in what we believe but as we all support our own families, neighbors, friend and fellowmen, we are all blessed.
This isn’t just for emergencies. A couple years ago my dad lost his job and as works in high level management it takes a long time to find new employment. All in all our family was without income for over a year and our food storage is what kept us afloat
What is the logic behind this? Why cant you just save the money and spend it in food when you loose your job? Why do you have to buy it beforehand? I bet buying regular food when you need it will be way less expensive than buying tht special stuff beforehand.
Lord Roo the logic is that originally the food was purchase in case something ever happened and the grocery store wasn’t exactly an option. But I was saying that it also came in handy in a loss of income situation. And as for money saved up, we had quite a bit. But a lot of money turns into a little money really fast when you have 8 kids and unexpected expenses come up during that unemployment time
Lord Roo also it wasn’t special stuff that we bought. It was stuff from the grocery store that has several year shelf life such as canned foods and dry foods. We rotate it as needed. So in the end it wasn’t any more expensive to buy it before hand
@@jacobshepherd3997 One of my prepping rules is that all preparations and stored items must have a benefit, a return on investment, even though the world continues to turn as it normally does. Because that's probably what's going to happen. Buying TP by the case is easier and more cost effective, buying 25lbs of beans requires one trip to the store and costs less, etc.
@@lordroo8484 When troubles break out in the Middle East and oil stops flowing, or a natural disaster occurs, a lot of places in the world experience the flow on effects. The trucks stop delivering, the supermarket shelves empty, prices skyrocket. The people who have saved their money for the emergency can buy a few cans of beans at that stage. Buying bulk food beforehand is much cheaper than buying as you go.
I was in the Army when hurricane Andrew hit. All you need to know is McDonalds was the only place with food and there were lines that took 3 hours to get through, cash only. One subdivision I remember working all the houses were totaled except one, he built his own home, doubled code, and he was sitting in his driveway with his generator watching us.
MrWizards1974 that’s what he said. Keep in mind this was a Lenar Home subdivision. The home builder that failed to strap roofs and garage doors were weak. This guys house was the only one on the block left standing. We were hauling out all the debris from the roadside. He didn’t even need a blue tarp.
@@leviferrero6068 Well if you don't understand whats wrong with the statement "Double Code" you are as ignorant as the person who wrote it. So in that case yes you have a problem.
Cody, I would split your fuel reserves and store them in 2 different areas. Same with your food. You never know when you might have an accidental fire. Then you would lose everything
I have my year supply of food but I rotate it every year. It gets used like normal food rice, beans, honey, cheese, dehydrated milk, nuts, pastas, canned meats and hams, vinegar, etc it’s good that if kept on a cool, dry and dark place will last practically forever so why buy prepackaged foods that will only be opened when an emergency happens if it ever happens. I find it more practical to store foods you actually use and rotate them that way it’s gets used it’s cheaper and easier to maintain.

Been using chest old freezers for similar storage on the folks farm for many years. Great as they have thermal insulation which helps stop things getting crazy hot too.

@@-KillaWatt- That makes sense. The people that criticize emergency prep are simply delusional. Do these people drive around with no insurance on their brand new car? Do they have insurance on their house? I see no difference between the two.
The worlds not going to last another 20 years buddy. Worrying about that stuff is fools dream. That’s as bad as the guys buying rare fast cars to never drive them thinking in 60 years when the price is even higher they’ll make a huge profit. Newsflash they and this whole world will be nuclear wasteland in less than 20. And they will have died with no money gained and no bliss of driving that car for what it was. That’s not worth it. One of the main problems that I have with patriot supply is it is very dependent upon wheat. Think about the recipes, pancakes, pasta meals, oatmeal, not a lot of protein and what is, is TVP. Dear Cody, may I politely suggest that you read "Blackout" by Marc Elsberg? Myself, I seem to think along the same lines as you. I'm currently rigging up a water supply with a manually operated pump in my cellar. But after reading this book I came to the conclusion that the first thing you need is not food or gas or water or firewood, but a good supply of very effective weapons, along with enough ammunition, plus (most important) the willingess to use them on desperate human beings if required. Otherwise, before long people who are stronger than you will come and take away your supply, because they weren't as foresighted as yourself and want to ensure survival of themselves and their family. All the best, and thank you for teaching me so much. Frank from Germany
From reviews I've watched it seems most of these companies are ripping people off and making false claims. It may be better to make your own emergency food storage from products that you trust.
Yeah. Just look at what is really included in the 500 servings in each pail. Its half filler just to take up space. Whatever they say it will feed divide it in half.
But that's kind of the problem. How do I trust my own emergency food? All the information I have about storing food is second-hand and by the time I can do long-term testing it's gonna be approaching the end of the shelf-life. How do I even trust the products? It's layers upon layers of trust and if a link on that chain fails, you spoil the end product.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD You don't have to trust the company as much if you are buying things that are known to last a long time like rice and beans. Some of the freeze dried companies have been in business for a while. Because prepping for a war will not work.
LOL, I bet he felt really good about spending that extra money on his home.

LMAO "doubled code". Just stop it.
That's how it is done in Alaska. If your home burns down, you need alternate food, water & shelter....now!
Jeffrey Yeip Don’t you think it should be split 3 ways and stored in three locations? Or maybe 4 would be even better.
I was thinking the same...

Watching this during quarantine. 3/28/2020
This video hits different this time.
After having a tornado take out the power in my home last summer, I was glad that I had some emergency supplies.
I would prep if i were in an area prone to some natural disasters etc. Not so much where i reside currently.
