Down the street from the Alexandria is the King Eddy Saloon (Bukowski was a drinker there). It has a haunted history as well plus a basement that is now walled off from the tunnels that used to connect to it. The tunnels would go under the streets into the basements of other hotels and large buildings. These were well used during prohibition. The security provided was often off duty LAPD. Prohibition wasn’t taken very seriously in Los Angeles unless it involved rum runners who wouldn’t pay off the police and city council members. In the basement is a mural that was painted in the 1930’s showing a festive debauched scene with a cop as a doorman chastising someone for trying to sneak in their own liquor. Also Auto Park (across from the Biltmore Hotel) has a lot of returning spirits.

I was born here and downtown L.A. is awful now. Homeless, crime and the smell of urine.

You moved to downtown? Why would you do that to yourself?

@@galileasalinas9803 I'm just saying even if you had money to live in a nice new condo, why would you spend two to $3,000 a month living in a building that used to be section 8 housing in the 90s or new condo that's built right next to skid row? There's way better places to live if you got money. It's dirty smells like piss and parking is atrocious. I have delivered in the downtown area a lot there's a literally rats running around everywhere, I just have no clue why you chose to live there. But you do you. And rent there is way overpriced for what you get there

Sad that in the 4 years since this was posted, people don’t even feel safe in that area for tours and walking. Everything is vacant and boarded up.
