It absolutely does! You just have to keep the battery disconnected for about 10 minutes to allow it to reset. I’m speaking from experience-installing this steering wheel. If you’re having trouble, maybe try to keep the battery disconnected for a little longer, it will definitely clear - I can only confirm this if it’s pertaining to the steering wheel or the the door panel airbag, both of which I have removed and reinstalled without issues.
@@TheAutoSurgeon - The only way I've seen to disable the airbag light is with a dedicated scan tool, you would have to be the only one that 's been able to do it by simply disconnecting the battery, sorry for being sceptical but I've tried it on numerous occasions and it doesn't work.
I’m not sure, I don’t think my car is special. As long as the airbag is reconnected and good, I don’t see why the airbag code would be permanent. Maybe it’s a BMW thing, if you’re talking about trying it on different brands.
I don’t have the link anymore, it’s been deleted. But if you just search for an e60 steering wheel on Ali Express, you’ll be able to find one. They’re all probably made in the same factory.
Yes! Almost all LED steering wheels only require power and ground. Some also have a separate OBD2 module that needs to be installed. But in your case, your install should be very similar to mine. Just take extra care when opening up the clock-spring and you sound be fine. Good luck!
Here’s the link to the wheel, make sure you contact the seller before you place an order: a.aliexpress.com/_m0UUsr6 If the link doesn’t work, just type this into the search: Custom Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel Alcantara Leather For BMW E60 M5
It unfortunately looks like they’ve changed the ad. I’m sure you can find another one through a quick search on Ali Express! Most of them are probably made in the same factory.
It was about $1200 CAD. It’s going to be a pretty involved DIY, depending on what modifications you’re planning to make. If you’re going to be changing the shape of the steering wheel (flat bottom with cutouts) you’re going to need to make a mold and remold the shape of the steering wheel. But if you plan to keep the original shape and just re wrap it in new leather with the LED display, it should be a relatively simple process.

It’s on my 535i.
How’s the steering wheel holing up a year later??
It’s great! No issues at all.
Is it similar connections with as the e46? To wire
You should be able to find a similar way to wire the power on your e46!
By re-connecting the battery without the airbag connected you're going to have the airbag warning light on your cluster.
Yes, but when you reinstall the airbag, disconnect the battery and reconnect, it clears the airbag light.
@@TheAutoSurgeon - Have you actually tried this, I can tell you that simply disconnecting and reconnecting the battery will not clear the airbag light
