  • In this video, Mailbox Sensor - Mail Chime Review, home renovation brothers Dave and Rich, and Dave's son, Caleb, show you a relatively new product that can let you know when you have mail in your mailbox.
Our father is in his 80's and he is not getting around quite as well as he once did. It is now an effort for him to go out to the mailbox. So, the last thing he would want is to go outside, make the trip to the mailbox and find that the mail hadn't arrived yet.
He does have a clever hack that he has been using for years. He has hundreds of magazine subscription cards. He puts one in his mailbox each day and then put the red flag up on his mailbox. When the postal carrier takes the magazine subscription card out of the mailbox, he can look out the window and know that the mail has arrived.
We thought there must be some kind of mailbox sensor gadget, we looked online and sure enough -- we found the Mail Chime Mailbox Sensor from a company called Hannah Products!

    ********************************************************************************************
The Mail Chime is quite easy to set up. The contents include a receiver, which will go inside your home. This will display a red flashing light and buzz when the mailbox door is opened.
There is also a transmitter, which will be attached to your mailbox.
There are 3 main kinds of mailboxes, slot, curbside, and wall mount. They have installation directions for each one.
The Transmitter has a dial with 4 frequencies. They will tell you which one to set yours on.
There is a small battery that comes with the unit that must be installed before you use the Mail Chime.
You will fasten the Transmitter to your mailbox with a tape strip that they provide.
Once you have the transmitter in place, just plug the power adaptor to the receiver and plug it into a wall outlet. Now you are all set. Have someone open your mailbox door. You should hear a loud signal and see a red flashing light.
They have a volume control button so you can adjust the sound.
Our Dad seems very pleased with the Mail Chime. He said that he has disabled neighbors and it is a real struggle for them to get to their mailbox. So this would be a great product for them, or anyone who is having difficulty moving around. It's also nice in the rain and the snow to know for sure that your mail is in the mailbox before you have to go out in inclement weather.
    Hope this helps!!!

That’s nice, but you can also get his Dr to fill out a form for you and take it to the post office stating that they will have to deliver the mail to the front porch box, that he is unable to go to the street, kinda like back in the good ol days.
You’d have to attach a wall mailbox to the porch.

I'm also a disabled vet and use one of these. For the most part it works great. The problem I have now is we have a new mailman that figured out how to defeat the chime. Yes, he does it intentionally. I watched him open it very slowly several times. Unbelievable how nasty some people can be for no good reason.

      Hey Joseph,
Thank you for serving. You all can never get enough thanks for that!
I can’t believe the post man would do that.
I would glue a neodymium magnet to the mail box interior by the door. They can be the size of a dime but they hold really tight. That way the post man would have to tug on the door to open it - no slowly opening it any more😃
      Thx for watching.

Call in on his or her smart hateful ass.
I would say run a cherry bomb trip wire to it, but then you’d have to replace the whole thing!

Nice video, but I need more info. Does the alarm keep beeping as long as the door is open ? Do you have to “reset” the alarm every time it goes off, therefore arming it for next time ? Will the alarm shut off (stop beeping) after a while ?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 роки тому +1

      Hey it…,
It stops beeping after three beeps. A light stays on inside the device in the house. That is reset by pressing a button.
      Thx for watching!

Here is something you should look into for your dad. "Hardship" or "Medical Problems" is defined as an illness or handicap which would present a physical challenge for an individual to retrieve mail.
To request door delivery, you need to write a letter requesting this change and attach a statement from a Doctor. The doctor's statement should indicate you are unable to collect your mail from a curb or centralized mailbox. Both your letter and the doctor's statement must be sent to the Post Office™ that delivers your mail for approval or denial. Final determination on whether or not door delivery will be granted will be made by the Post Office.
Request letters should be addressed to:
    POSTMASTER
    UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE

I tried the hardship for my Mom who has conjestive heart failure and is housebound and has the letter from the DR. and the proper form filled out. Our local Postmater is a real A$$ and won't do it, says she is faking because she sounds fine on the phone and it cost extra to pay a carrier to put in her box on her porch so she can reach it. The carrier wants to do it and said she would do it for free but her postmaster told her she can not do it. The mail is about all my Mom has left each day to look forward to. My sister has to drive across town (pass the post office) to get the mail and bring to the house. I wish I knew who the boss of the postmaster is.

Great idea! Ignore the naysayers.. if the mailbox is at the street which most are then a ring camera set for motion at the box will also go off with every car or person walking.. correct?

Nowadays USPS sends out an email if you have any letter or package and it is called USPS Daily Digest email. It is a free service and you have to register with them. It indicates the picture of the letter so you know ahead what the letter is from or about. For the package, it indicates the tracking number.

It has its fallacies. Sometimes the nail that's "supposed to" be delivered today, won't be delivered until the next day or days.
It doesn't tell you WHEN the mailbox has been opened. Living in an area where mail theft is common, the chime let's me know that the mailbox has been opened. For anyone with physical disabilities that make walking painful, this is a life altering product.

Hi Katherine, wow, sounds like you live in a pretty rough neighborhood! My Dad and his neighbor both have these mailbox sensors. No one is stealing anything from them. If a thief stole the sensor from the mailbox it would be useless because they need the receiver as well, which is inside the owner's home.
Sounds like what you really need is a great security system!
