I think you might be interested in "Thanatos" by Deus Mortem. It features members of Thunderbolt (Paimon's former band). Also Inferno used be a drummer on their debut release. Thanatos is easily in my top 3 black metal albums of 2024, I really recommend it.
I've been nagging Jerry for like 4 years (or more honestly) to go listen to Deus Mortem. He did at some point and enjoyed it (no surprise ofc)! Good to see more people nag him, let's keep nagging Jerry until he does a full discography review hahaha, joking of course. Love ya Jerry we know you're busy with that endless pile of music.

However, the album that I liked the most this was also a non-metal release "Genocide Organ - All is Suffering", but I didn't include it because it's a compilation of four 7" EP/singles. That and Lifvsleda's album were the soundtrack of 2024 for me, both are April albums. In addition, I've always admired the fact that you release your lists after the year ACTUALLY ends, compared to the majority of people, journalists, etc., which I wholeheartedly agree with your reasoning.
Good list. Number 1 surprised me I have to be honest. Didn't know you were in to dark ambient stuff. Highly recommend checking out Treha Sektori if you haven't already.
Glad to have people surprised! I have been listening to dark ambient for over 20 years, so those who know that, were not probably surprised. Or those who saw my Lustmord review earlier last year.
Haven't watched it yet and I normally don't make top 10 lists however here is a list of stuff I enjoyed this year (NOT IN ANY ORDER); New BMSS release (Under a different name; Mystery51) deserves a shoutout, only 2 songs so hard to really justify as a full release and the album art was dogshit (AI..). I also enjoyed the new SW album but I gotta give that a listen or two more, it didn't blow me away but I did enjoy the straight no bullshit 2nd wave black metal. Any of these albums could be album of the year for me personally. I was really excited for the new Deus Mortem and Grylle albums and they did not dissappoint! Gloomy Reflections was definitely a shock (same with Drevorod tbh) since I wasn't aware of either band at the time. But not surprised Quest Master and Will Spectre together would be great, still surprised how good it is though. * The Gates - ...From the River Styx (Heavy Psych (rock) with a bunch of synths, black metal vocals and the works that usually comes from this style of music) * Drevorod - Anthems of Soil and Stars (Pagan/Atmospheric Black Metal - great vocals!) * Gloomy Reflections - Oath of the Paladins (Prog rock/Heavy metal, some people say Krautrock. It's some heavy metal with good ass synths) * Inquisition - Veneration of.... (Black Metal) * Hyver - Both the album and EP but I think the EP was a bit better (Folky/Synth Black Metal) * Grylle - Egotrants... ("Medieval" Black Metal, aka with traditional folk instruments leading the charge, although this album does feature actual guitars unlike the previous one) * Deus Mortem - Thanatos (Black Metal) Any of these releases is atleast an 8.5/9 if not straight 10 (on a good day). Bunch of different genres but I've been loving a more melodic aproach this year it seems. Highly reccommend to anyone willing to listen to anything experimental (or just straight good Black Metal ofc). I tried putting genres behind it to give an indication but genres and styles are different (as people should know) and it's hard to fit some of these into multiple boxes let alone a single one. Jerry you might not be aware of some of these albums but goddamn they're great! Hope you had a good 2024 and have an even better 2025 - here's to another year of Rauta! Hails!
@@RautaMetal Count Spookula also deserves an honorable mention even if I still think his second album was really good (obviously it's not TOO serious but there is some good music there along with some good jokes). I have checked out the Nightside release when it came out but not sure if I ever sat through the whole album. I'll give it another go seeing you reminded me. Not a "fan" of melodic BM, just more that I've been listening to melodic music in general past year or so. Thank you again for all your work Jerry, those interviews will be even more important in a few years seeing most bands aren't that big and can dissappear whenever - you are actually doing the whole underground scene a service and I'm not bullshitting either.
Thanik you for your words. I hope that my interviews and other videos will servce as a library of sorts into the world of extreme metal in the long run.
I skipped new Opeth because it didn't come for review and I have never been into the band. Aborted sounded nice based on one listen I gave to them, but didn't remember to add them to the list as I didn't review them. Happy new year to you too!
Some great albums there! If I can say one's you didn;t mention i would include are from Blood Red Throne, Severe Torture, Order of Nosferat, Nightside, Mork Gryning, Old Forest, Arkona (Poland), Chaos Invocation, Skelethal, Mordant Rhed, Unhallowing, Fleshgod Apocalypse, In Aphellion, Necrophobic, Seth, Tomorrows Rain, Heathen Diety, Ieschure, BAT, Midnight, Hell:on, Funeral Storm, Bythos, Hekseblad, Benighted, Necrowretch, Witchtrap, etc.... sorry for the list bat man these albums rip!
For obvious reasons I didn't mention Nightside, since it's my own band :) About some others you mentioned, I haven't heard all of them and for example Old Forest wasn't that good for me. In Aphelion and Necrophobic were good, but not good enough for top 10 or so. Same applies to Witchtrap and some others over there.
@RautaMetal I figure you wouldn't mention your own band but I had to because I very much enjoyed it! I also bought a shirt from Purity through Fire. ;) those were some just great mansions that I had to throw out there in case maybe you haven't heard them. You had a lot of great choices too and yeah when there's so many great albums and bands it's hard to narrow them down, I honestly have a hard time doing that.
I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed Nightside that much. I am very happy with the result. And now we are doing new songs, too. About the top ten: yes it is quite hard sometimes to narrow it down to only top 10.
Actually, I agree that although DM had a solid year, there wasn't anything spectacular. Probably you've heard the black metal albums on my list but let me copy & paste my Top 10: 1. Tribulation - Sub Rosa In Æternum 2. The Funeral Procession - In Still Silence 3 Religious Observance - 7 Years Of Neglect 4. Vemod - The Deepening 5. Borkgnagar - Fall 6. Djevel - Natt Til Ende 7. Reverorum Ib Malacht - Martyrium Matrimonii : Sacrificium Christi 8.The Cure - Songs of a lost world 9. Drowned - Procul His 10. Gnipahalan - Folkstorm
EI löydy listalta, Heretic - Filthy Hymns for Sleazy Demonsia? taikka Perdition's Miren - Into a Dark Heartlandia.
I wish it had more death metal and thrash but unfortunately I didn't hear too many good ones from those genres. Also, see the description. There is more than just top 10. Btw my number one wasn't neither dm or bm, so your percents are wrong :p

* Inquisition - Veneration of.... (Black Metal)
* Hyver - Both the album and EP but I think the EP was a bit better (Folky/Synth Black Metal)
* Grylle - Egotrants... ("Medieval" Black Metal, aka with traditional folk instruments leading the charge, although this album does feature actual guitars unlike the previous one)
* Deus Mortem - Thanatos (Black Metal)
Any of these releases is atleast an 8.5/9 if not straight 10 (on a good day). Hails!
Thanks for the comments & list. Btw. if you do like melodic black metal, check out Nightside's latest album from 2024. You might like it.
Come on Jerry why skip new Opeth and Aborted? Both masterpieces (really, no joke). Hehe cheers and happy new year man 🍻
I skipped new Opeth because it didn't come for review and I have never been into the band.
Great selection and closing of the year, Satanic Warmaster strikes again!
Cheers!
Did you call Inquistion Nile for a minute or so? xD
Not sure!
Actually, I agree that although DM had a solid year, there wasn't anything spectacular. Probably you've heard the black metal albums on my list but let me copy & paste my Top 10:
1. Tribulation - Sub Rosa In Æternum
2. The Funeral Procession - In Still Silence
3 Religious Observance - 7 Years Of Neglect
4. Vemod - The Deepening
5. Borkgnagar - Fall
6. Djevel - Natt Til Ende
7. Reverorum Ib Malacht - Martyrium Matrimonii : Sacrificium Christi
8.The Cure - Songs of a lost world
9. Drowned - Procul His
10. Gnipahalan - Folkstorm
An interesting list for sure!
No Panzerfaust? It is an AWESOME album.
If you mean the Canadian Panzerfaust, I haven't heard their latest one, but their previous ones didn't do much for me.
@RautaMetal Yes, exactly., the Canadians. Give a chance, when you'll have time, I think you'll enjoy it. Thanks.
Boredom Black Metal for people that dislikes Black Metal
Maybe some day in the future, but now too busy with review albums and retrospective projects.
good list that whoredom rife is a banger,
Sure is!
My top list
1. Abhorration - Demonolatry
9-10. I mean nothing compares to the top spot so no need to even list anything else.
For me that Abhorration didn't really do much.
Where is BARATHRUM? It's bad joke to skip Überkill!
It is included in the big list (had just forgotten to mention it earlier).
EI löydy listalta, Heretic - Filthy Hymns for Sleazy Demonsia? taikka Perdition's Miren - Into a Dark Heartlandia.
@@JH-666 hangover...
Flu, not being tired or hungover. I haven’t been hungover for years.
@@RautaMetal ok, sitä onki liikkeellä
Kyllä. Koko ajan ollut joku omastakin bändistä kipeänä.
LIMBONIC ART
Nah…. Not my thing.
Different stroke 4 different folks.
Indeed. I just went thru their whole discography last year and kinda reminded me why I don’t have any of their releases in my cd collection.
You look like your are sick!😅
Hangover...
I have had flu for a few days now, so that’s correct - not hungover since I haven’t been even drinking for months!
Your list sucks big time 😂 80% black metal and 20 % death metal 😂 guess yvore a trve mean bastard 😂
I wish it had more death metal and thrash but unfortunately I didn't hear too many good ones from those genres. Also, see the description. There is more than just top 10. Btw my number one wasn't neither dm or bm, so your percents are wrong :p
