  • I have logged over 600 miles in the Asics Gel Nimbus 25 and am close to hanging them up for good. In this video I go over my likes and dislikes, how the shoe has held up and do I think the Nimbus 25 was worth my hard earned money.

    500km in my Nimbus 25, and your long run comment is spot on. Last week's 25km run after about 20km I just felt like I was dragging my feet. The shoe slots in best as a daily/recovery shoe. I've even used it for tame strides, since as you mention the forefoot isn't mushy at higher paces. I might transition my pair to the treadmill only for my recovery runs. The Nimbus 25 is the reason I ordered a pair of Novablast 3, in hopes it can become the shoe which can cover my endurance/strides runs and my long runs without marathon pace injection.
    Knee pain can often by the classic crashing in on the medial side, I generally feel it in the shins first, never gave a shoe enough chances to impact my knees.
    Great content as always.

      I love that asics does so many of those TR versions. I thought about doing the same. The running shoe geek in me had me wanting to try something different. Also, Triumph 20, still my favorite running shoe :)

      When I started running, I could only run .25 miles in my 5 year old Adidas shoes. I purchased these shoes and ran over a mile straight. These shoes are amazing.

    The best thing with this shoe is that after 500-600 miles, you can wear it for another at least 200 miles walking due to it's upper that looks almost like new.

    Oh man... I wish I could have seen your video before I bought the shoe. Same experience here, it feels comfortable when walking but when running, the forefoot area suddenly becomes hard and I don't feel the plushiness or response at all. I'm doing an easy run at 6.5 minutes per Km which I think the shoe is designed for but I don't feel comfortable at all. I wish I could have gone for the NB more V4 or Nike Invincible 3. Great review by the way.

    I give you a lot of credit for getting 600 miles in a pair or shoes. I generally replace after 400ish. I did just order this shoe though, so I might try to push it to 500 plus. It will be the first shoe I try since purchasing 5 pairs of saucony triumph 20, which is my all time favorite shoe. I loved the comparison review you did.

    This shoe is a furnace during summer and the midfoot is indeed too narrow for some (like me!). The outsole is also pretty bad on wet pavement. I would get all tensed up while running because I was constantly afraid that I would slip. It ended up causing me a bunch of issues! Didn't bother trying them in the snow.

    I purchased the Novoblast 3 last year at the tail end of my half marathon training to run my race in. I started to have right hip pain pretty bad during my last several training runs and when I ran the race both hips started throbbing starting at mile 6. I am thinking it was the extreme cushion and lack of stability. Thoughts? Do you ever get hip pain with these high stack shoes? This was a great review. I desperately want to run a marathon but need to find the right shoe.

    • @WhatMatterstoMatt
      @WhatMatterstoMatt  3 місяці тому +1

      Hey, can't remember if I replied to this or not. For me the only issue with the Asics and Comrades might be the weight. It will certainly be protective but for me sometimes on longer runs when I'm getting tired I start to notice the weight more and more. Novablast might be a good option. I have not had the chance to run in the novablast 4 but Asics used a similar foam (ff blast +) and it is a lot lighter. You might lose a little in terms of stability but I don't think the newer versions of the novablast are considered unstable.

    between nimbus 25 and 26, which one is more suitable for daily wear?

    • @WhatMatterstoMatt
      @WhatMatterstoMatt  Місяць тому

      Honestly I have not run in the nimbus 26 other than trying it on at the store and doing a light jog. From what I can tell with other reviews you probably can’t go wrong with either. If we are talking “daily wear” as in a shoe to both walk and run in, I will say I have used the nimbus 25 as a walking shoe for a long time after retiring it from running. My guess is that the traction in the 26 might be a bit better but some folks felt when running the change in the outsole made it a little “slappy”. In the end you can’t go wrong and I think if you can find the 25 for a good deal then it’s worth it. *remembering that my opinion is based on very little experience in the 26*

      I have abnormally short and wide foot. This shoe gives me the perfect fit and comfort. Mine are 4E, that stands for extra wide. This is probably most comfortable shoe i have ever owned. Extra cushioning is good since i also have osteoarthritis in my knee. No pain at all. Just over 50km so far.
