I'm a Fed fan, but Rafa is still a class act...injuries are a part of the sport and the big five in tennis (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Wawrinka) have all suffered injuries of all sorts keeping them out of the game for extended periods....we need to treasure them for their comeback power....look at Djokovic this year.....Rafa WILL be back soon...I hope Murray can make it back to his top level form soon...

Win or lose, Rafa is a true champ, a warrior, a fighter, a gladiator . He bought the best tennis matches to the USOpen this year. Unforgettable “tennis of the gods” with Khachanov , Basilasvilli, and Thiem . Nobody worked harder then Rafa to get to the semis . So heartbroken for him...

Mard maratha - I love Del Potro , and I was sad to see my two favourite players play against each other. However you cannot say that Del Potro beat Nadal, as he retired ! Playing an injured opponent of course will put a player at a massive advantage to win . As DelPotro said on his on court interview it -“wasn’t nice to play against an injured Nadal and he didn’t enjoy seeing him that way” and he “would have preferred to play a competitive match” However going forward, I hope DelPotro defeats Djokovic and wins the tournament he certainly deserves it ...

Mard maratha -I really don’t understand your point or issue? It’s relevant whether he enjoys it or not , I think he’s probably very relieved that he’s in the final without getting tired or injured and in the best possible shape for the final! Surely winning the final is on his mind not the semi finals...

As a tennis fan, and remember I am not a Federer nor a Nadal fan. But, as a tennis fan I am absolutely gutted for Nadal for the way he lost. I didn't even expect him to be at the semi finals, but he won all three gruelling matches before the semi final and proved me that he is the greatest fighter of the sport. I am a big fan of Federer's technique reliant game, but now I must admit that I am a greater fan of Nadal's game even though it has a major drawback. As for the stupid comments about Nadal faking injury, I dare you to play consecutive four hour matches in the span of five or six days at least once in a lifetime at the age of 32. Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are literally living legends and it seems like the end of that era which we had the privilege to witness throughout all these years. Nadal might go onto win more FO, and maybe one or two hard court championships. Djokovic may catch up to Nadal and finally Federer can win one or two more in the next two years. The young guns are rising and our heroes are becoming old day by day. It's been some beautiful years for tennis fans and please don't sell yourself short to becoming delusional fans. Again, as a tennis fan I will keep rooting for the best tennis players.

It's remarkable how many bottom-feeders crawl out of their caves whenever Rafa loses, and even more when he is forced to retire due to injury. This is a guy who played out his match against Ferrer in the 2011 AO quarter-finals despite being injured, and did the same against Wawrinka in the 2014 AO final because he HATES to retire and he is also loathe to take anything away from his opponent. Also, for the uninformed, he first had his knee taped against Khachanov in the 3rd round, so I'd say making it all the way to the semi-finals is a pretty good achievement.

This is the typical nonsense of hatred.
"Fedtards are morons because they dont understand *insert here Nole or Rafa* is clearly the Goat."
"Nadals buttkissers cant see how *insert Roger or Nole* is much more complete player and he doesnt need PED or fake injuries."
"Djokobitch fans are so retarded, most likely Serbians and they cant see the difference between *insert Rafa or Roger* in his prime and Nole. They would devour him alive."
Can we simply stop all 3 and enjoy them while we still can? None of them is imo doing anything bad for tennis and we are lucky that all 3 play at the same time.
I see them as: Roger (The artist) vs Rafa (The Warrior) vs Nole (The machine) and have favourites but it doesnt mean the others s*** a** or cheat or whatever.

It's a bit unfair Rafa saying people shouldn't compare him with Federer and Djokovic injury wise, but they had major surgeries which is always risky. Rafa did not. He has always been the player who relies on his physical skill the most. This tournament proved that for the zillionth time. It's sad for him and all true tennis fans, but as long as he likes to shake hands with the linespeople during each point, plays clay court tennis on each surface, and forgets to measure out his schedule more, the chronic knee injury will be there to stop him. And let's not forget, he's 32 years old, he's becoming a veteran of the game too. As a nurtured player, Rafa is his own enemy asking too much from his body unlike natural players like Federer and to a lesser extent Djokovic and Murray.

    • @MRchriSirhc
      @MRchriSirhc 6 років тому

Meryll Cariaga Even when a player is injured I think it's fair to give credit to the other player. Del Potro's groundstrokes, including the backhand, were really on fire in the second set. He didn't serve like he used to and still should've won the first set more easily than he did. That's a sign of being the dominant player, because DelPo's margin of error was much larger than his opponent's. Nadal ran from side to side like he always does chasing balls with great intensity which he stopped doing only at the end of the second set.

Why not just be happy & contented ? I wouldn't ask you to give or show RESPECT , for obviously, you don't possess that trait or civility . But remember ... WHAT YOU SOW , YOU SHALL REAP .

What is Nadal even trying to say when he says he's been injured more than the other top players? Rafa of all people should know that he is destined for more injuries than the other top guys. The reason why Rafa is Rafa is because he works his butt off everyday and his sheer willpower, fight, and determination help him push through his mental barriers that other top players, notably Federer, are not as successful at doing. That's why Rafa has 17 Grand Slam's, because he no doubt works harder and fights harder than everyone else. But that extra hard work and pushing through mental barriers takes a physical toll on the human body. Humans aren't machines and they're going to wear down eventually. Since Rafa works harder than everyone else and pushes his body further than any other player, he is inevitably going to sustain more injuries than the other top guys. Yes injuries can be accidents but usually they are directly related to how you treat your body. It's not "unlucky" that he gets injured. It's just a result of his mental strength and hard work taking a toll on his body year after year. Sure, if Nadal had Federer's longevity and never got injured then maybe he could have 20+ Grand Slams, but that is impossible because the way Nadal plays does not yield longevity. The same can be said about Federer. If Federer had Nadal's heart, willpower, and sheer determination then Federer would likely have 25+ Grand Slams but that's also impossible because if Federer had those traits at Nadal's level, Federer would have gotten injured much much more.

People stating he should end the season and come back next year, really? The season is not over yet. Nadal needs a month to recover. I hope he will try to win the ATP Finals, because this is one of the biggest trophies in tennis. Although it's not his favourite tournament and it doesn't get easier for him, he needs at least one victory at the unofficial world championships of tennis by beating the best of the best in one week.

loool the ending XD He says it like it is.
It's quality, not quantity of matches, and when he does play; it's of the highest quality. He's the most humble, generous, hardworking player, with the greatest presence in Tennis for me.
These tournaments really should be longer and fewer of them, for more rest days to recover. Practice, then playing for over 4 hours, finishing @ 3am, with a couple days of rest @ 32 years old. It's too much for any human to take, not to mention other cups have no rest days in between. I know what its like having bad knee problems, because I have the same weak knee as Rafa does and I can't imagine playing that hard, that frequently. Something has to give.
I know Rafa is just happy he's still playing at this stage in his life and he and his team did the right thing, I'm proud of them for not pushing too far over the health limit. Love and care to all of them :)

Will all these injuries take a toll on him later, during his life after tennis? I hope not. Although I don't know everything that happened out there, I admire how he is still focused. After all these injuries and being forced to retire and probably even facing the comments from media and viewers of the game, he is still so focused. If it was me, I'd have taken pride in what I already achieved and hung up my rackets, so that I don't have to humiliate myself in front of people.
That's why I admire Rafa, he's more than just a tennis player or even just a competitor in the race to be the goat.

He has problems with his knee since a long time, and though he retired from his match, he is treated like he lost so no need for the ugly comments.. Losing to del potro doesn't make him lesser! He is the world number one whether you like it or not.. He is one of the greatest athletes of all time... So bad some of roger fans can't be as humble as Roger is.. PATHETIC!

It was important that Rafa set the record straight about comparing injuries of Federer, Novak and Andy, with his. The so called debate about "who's the GOAT" wouldn't be a debate at all, if it wasn't for Rafa's countless injuries. Thank you Rafa for a yet another unforgettable tournament. Those who love you and love tennis would be sharing your pain right now, and wishing nothing but a speed recovery.
How someone can hate this guy, is beyond me! there's only two explanations I could think of:
    1) In every way he is quite the opposite of the conventional No.1 tennis player that narrow minded people are so used to or pictured in their minds.
    2) In a world where masses of people supported genocides and backed dictators like Adolf Hitler, you would always have people hating others for no apparent reason.

I am not a Nadal fan but never do I wish to see him injured that’s for sure. So this match was sad to see. I already at the beginning of the second set noticed that Rafa was not himself and knew he would retire. Rafa really needs to clean up his schedule. He plays way to many claycourts tournements before French (Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid and Rome) that is way to many with knees who are giving up on him more and more. Two retirement matches on grandslam this year (Cilic the other one in Australia) I can’t honestly not belive why in earth Nadal plays four claycourts tournements before French that to me is insane.
Yeah I know he more or less is unbeatable on clay, but his goal should be winning as many slams as possible and not winning Barcelona and Madrid??? In the end of the day it’s up to him (his life his career) but If I would have been Nadal (with a burned body like his) I would had never played so many tournements in a season like he does that’s bloody sure. Time for him to really take a page from Federer’s book. Who will win US Open now?? My money is on Djokovic.

Can somebody explain to me why there is so much doubts on Rafa’s injuries? I don’t see a tennis player like Nadal (or Federer or Djokovic, or anyone in that category) throwing the towel because they are losing a game. Seriously? Why choose to lose a game if you are healthy and still have the possibility to win a game? It does not make any sense. These players, all of them, if healthy, have the physical ability to come back and win a match, Nadal is not the exception. I honestly don’t understand why so much hate is said about Nadal, or Federer, or Djokovic. All of them are amazing players, let’s just enjoy them while they are still active. It’s a matter of a couple of years until they retire, don’t lose your time on stupid discussions and enjoy every single match they play, regardless of the results.
