A study published in Geophysical Research Letters journal of March, by climate researchers at IIT Bombay revealed a sustained subsidence of land in the city of Mumbai ringing alarm bells for this Indian megacity. The study says that the coastal city is sinking into the sea at the rate of 2 mm per year which may prima facie appear small but the issue if not addressed immediately can have severe consequences. The report has recommended urgent remedial measures that should be taken by urban planners and municipal authorities in order to avoid increased flooding in future.
Mumbai a city based on rocks and the pumping of groundwater in an unplanned way results in compaction and inevitable land subsidence especially prominent in sub surface rocks made of fine-grained sediments. It’s important to accept what is happening to then follow with action steps to control the situation before it’s too late. Big infrastructure projects are simply aggravating the problem. Builder-friendly laws, lobbied with governments to get large revenues and profits, needs to be checked immediately to safeguard environmental damages.
As we all know Mumbai is built on seven islands. Soil cover in the city region is predominantly sandy due to its proximity to the sea. Land subsidence is downward, vertical movement of the earth, which is permanent in nature, making the land more vulnerable to floods amidst rising sea levels. In order to combat this problem Mumbai needs to follow the example of Bangkok by reinforcing stricter regulations of groundwater use. Three key areas need to be addressed such as reduction of groundwater bores, centralisation of water delivery, easy access to this framework. This will result in lower groundwater subsidence, which will save large capital investments in resolving potential damages in future

You don't even know which areas will flood tbh. Fluid mechanics is not that easy to simulate and just by looking at DEM you can only make predictions that may or may not come true. There are several stuff that need urgent attention, be it proper drainage systems, better drinking water facilities, garbage disposal, better hygienic conditions that government needs to work on. So yea, this can wait.

Actually, this is not what will happen. The major thing that will happen is ground level increment, which is much cheaper way of handling this situation than businesses relocating or all sorts of things said in the video. It is very practical approach and is being used in various parts of the world where the land is/was below the sea level. I do not know why the government is not considering the engineering solutions still now, but I can assure that one day this will happen, much before 100 years. Mumbai receives a large amount of rainfall, but it still has water problem. Nowadays water storage is being done in Mumbai. If this is done on a large scale, it will make Mumbai one of the best planned and tsunami proof cities in the world. For example, Tokyo has a similar solution and a very very safe city nowadays inspite of constant danger of tsunami and earthquake.

I think the doomsday scenario is scarry because we have a perception from the movies like 2012, San andreas, etc. These movies do have amazing VFX, but the scenes stick in the people's mind. And when they hear the sea level rise, they recollect the scenes of 2012.
Also the innovation generally takes an S curve, its slow in the beginning , then it starts taking steam, and we finally reach a complete adoption of the new tech. Climate change and the technologies that are about to come will take the similar curve. They will seem slow at first and slowly, they will start rising.
There was a theory of peak oil that was calculated in 1950s, that as per that time's consumption, the world will run out of oil by 1990s. But it didn't happen, the internal combustion engines, and all the allied technologies become 100x more efficient than in 50s. So this peak oil date gradually kept on shifting and we may probably never see it.
There are a lot of technologies under development which can combat climate change or even reverse it. Things like renewable energy (making them more efficient and long lasting, efficient transmission of power, efficient usage of power from the electronics that we use, etc. Nuclear fusion, Carbon capture, Genetically Engineered plants and algae that consumes more greenhouse gas and release more oxygen. Small scale nuclear fission reactors, alternative battery tech that doesn't use environmentally damaging minerals to make so they can be used for future EVs. Most of all mass scale adoption and usage of public transit like metro, trains, trams, Electric buses, etc.
The things which are almost impossible to go green or don't have any green alternatives :- Aviation, construction materials like cement, asphalt, agriculture and animal husbandry, Plastics, Steel, Space travel, etc. For these things, you cannot just stop pumping Oil. you will need a small amount of demand for oil and gas in future forever. So, to combat it, we will need to use carbon capture on mass scale.
