I know it's been 13 years since this video was posted, but I just want to thank you! My toilet was clogged for almost 2 days. I tried everything. My plunger wasn't working (turns out I was using the wrong type of plunger without the flange. I had no idea that those were for sinks and not toilets until I watched your video!). I also used a toilet auger and that did nothing at all. The water level in my toilet was near overflowing and it was so disgusting. I let my toilet water drain down for a few hours and I went out and purchased the flange plunger you suggested. I got it from Walmart for a few dollars.
I used the plunger exactly the way you said to. I let it fill up with water slowly as I inserted it into the bowl. I copied your movements. Suddenly after days of hopelessness, my toilet unclogged just as quickly as you demonstrated. Seriously, I think it took around 11 seconds for me too. You are amazing and this video saved my life!!! Thank you so much!

I have owned that exact same plunger for about 15 years and have used it a few times and eventually I can clear the clog .. Last night I had a particularly stubborn clog and after 2 hours of trying I resigned to call a plumber 1st thing in the morning. So I'm a guy, and I just moved into a house with 3 girls a week ago, and I've been trying as hard as I can to convince them I'm not the disgusting stereotype they may have assigned me. I clogged the toilet this morning and freaked out for a full two hours trying to fix it before their episode of "the Bachelor" finished downstairs and they would come upstairs to see the destruction I had wroth. I want to thankyou - I have had a blocked toilet for days and tried all the usual hacks x I ordered a plunger like you demonstrate and was going to dive in to the far from clean “stuff” in my commode lol then you said watch out because it could rise up and make a mess on you and bathroom so I put on rubber gloves and took a bowl and putting all my considerable squeamishness aside I removed a large proportion of what was there 🤢 and then set to plunging x I poured water down and it came up to top then put in b soda and vinegar went away and left things and went back raised the lid and level of water is normal!!! Dude, just ride it. Push it down and then release really fast right at the little toilet hole and do that really fast until the water starts going down. The water went down pretty fast but there was a shit ton of toilet paper in my bowl so i kinda had to scoot it out the way but you'll be fine.

Just remember the 4 basic steps:
1. Place (the plunger correctly)
2. Purge (the air from the plunger)
3 Pump (the plunger rapidly, keeping it UNDERWATER)
4 Pull (the plunger UP, dislodging the obstruction)
The obstruction should then break up and can be flushed.
Place, Purge, Pump, Pull.

All these years and I didn't know you had to fill the plunger with water. That did the trick. My usual methods weren't working; I tried using dish soap, baking soda and vinegar, and even poured a 20oz Coke down the thing. I hope they at least helped a little.
