- Follow along as I show you how to add rock rings to steel wheels! These rock rings are made in the USA and available from my friends at Rock and Road Performance - Checkout the links below!
If you are wanting to do a set of weld on beadlocks the process is very similar. On the beadlocks there would be an outer ring that that gets bolted to the welded on ring and sandwiches the bead.

Whats up guys its Matt, I'm not sure whats up with all the hate about beadlocks. No, these aren't beadlocks, we never called them beadlocks. Yes we know what beadlocks are! Look at the title, look at the thumbnail, these are Rock Rings. Now they are similar in the way that they are welded to the rim... so if you were looking to get a set of DIY beadlocks its pretty much the same process you see here in this video to set them up. Thats why the title says "OR Beadlocks". The only difference being on the beadlocks there would be an outer ring that that gets bolted to the welded on ring and sandwiches the bead. So anyway, not sure where all these negative comments are coming from but I'm just gonna chock it up to everyone is in a bad mood from Terrible Tuesday. Have a better rest of your week!
everyone is bent because tomorrows tax day :)
I mean... you didn't mention beadlocks at all in the video. I figured there would at least be a "beadlocks are done almost the same"
Not your fault that people don't read the description though.
BleepinJeep Misleading title in more ways than one, it's not even "make your own" it's install parts bought from some place.
lately there's been a lot more negativity, and for some reason Tim seems to get the brunt of it. I don't know why exactly, but more viewers = more trolls...unfortunately
Jerry, what he means is, you can buy wheels with rock rings OR bead locks installed, already done. Or you can "install these parts bought from some place" and make your own. It's not a misleading title if you know what you're reading
Very nice weld beads. So many people criticizing and not wanting to face the fact that this is not as easy as it looks.
These rock rings are a life saver I tend to bend rims off road this helps a lot 👍🏻👍🏻😁
Did you have to re balance the tires?
Looks super clean
It has never occurred to me that I could sand and polish a weld. Yours look freaking beautiful. I've ground a few of my welds down, but they always look gnarly. Nice work
your title said" make your own rock rings", not "buy your own rock rings" bummer !
No shit
That’s what I’m sayin lol
i think its another awesome fabrication video from bleepin jeep and thanks on info about hobart handler 140 finally pushed me to buy one. but it is hilarious the guys who ask if you know what a beadlock is! they obviously dont own a jeep or theyd know who yall are.
nice job! looks great. but why not go with bead locks at that point? wont they also protect your rims? anyway, something to consider is to do the tig/mig method when mig welding them ? .. you know? consume a filler rod as you mig weld to fill up the root more and reduce the under cut edges .. but honestly, you could have just left it without grinding anything. they looked good form here. finally, do you think it would be a good idea to alternate passes in a pattern like for lug nuts, just to keep.the heat from concentrating in one spot, possibly warping the rim? Thanks for posting . keep up the good work.
Excellent video. Professionally done. They look pretty before you use them.
el Emerson You're correct, these are rock rings. The installation to both the rock rings and beadlocks are pretty similar though/////yes you weld beadlocks on 2 make sure the tire is inflated to like 45 psi for a proper seat befor welding the beadlocks in place
So now I'm looking up how to make my own beadlocks sweet thx
Hey I noticed in the thumbnail that you've got treadwright tires mounted up, Id love to see a video/review of those!!
Nice welding man enjoyed the process makes me want a 4x4.
I just got a custom set from affordable off-road. I was just wondering how hard it was to get them to balance cause I was thinking about running balance beads.
I could see a use for these but I personally would only use these on an off-road-only vehicle. They will fill with mud and snow and cause terrible balance issues going down the highway, and that mud, snow and ice is going to be a real PITA to get out.
Great video Tim. Those look great and the pricing is very fair. I think your welds looked really good, but sanded flush looks awesome! I don't know why people are so upset over the title? I'm used to SJW's getting upset over nothing, but not Jeep people! WTH?
These are honestly pretty cool in my opinion. Yeah they're not beadlocks, but they are pretty sweet!
did you have any warpage from the large beads?
Do you think it's possible to weld with a flux core 120v welder?
Great job!! Ok for the people who don't know what there for. Have you ever seen a bent rim ? From sliding or bouncing on a big rock? Especially when you're air is down? Think about it.,. You thinking about it? That rock ring strengthens that wheel bead substantial... And as a sharp edge... Again try to think about it.. think how the tire is mounted on the bead. There is no sharp edge...
Great video man, I am only wishing to see how they look painted and on your jeep. Kinda missing the close to the video, it left me wondering. Keep making videos guys!
any chance you have a before and after on the weight of a wheel with and without the RR and weld?
Isnt a D44 and 9 inch a bit overkill for 33s? Especially if you arent going crazy in it?
They help also by protecting valve stem when wheeling aired down on off camber parts of a trail. Had a stem ripped off w/o a spare once , these wouldve saved a major pia
They make metal valve stems
Honestly for this amount of effort, cost and weight you should have just gone with beadlocks. If all you want to do is not bend a lip, a rolled piece of rebar is way lighter, cheaper and easier. Also, that is a hell of a sharp edge/wedge shape you've put between your tire and a rock. It looks nice though, I suppose.
looks like a great place to get caked with mud and rocks to me
pressure washer
is that the Dana 44 u took out of the truck few weeks ago on the table
I am sorry, What these are for ? Extra support for rim ?
How to buy and weld rock rings. This is an Installation video not a make your own video. Still good knowledge.
A bead lock actually locks the bead against the wheel so that there it a (way) less of a chance of the bead slipping off the rim.
not my idea buy when I saw it I had to agree, step 1 is to relocate the valve stem. Leaving it in the factor location makes it really hard to connect to them. Transferring it to the center drum area makes life a 1000x easier when you are out in the trail and full of mud.
My only curiosity Is balancing the rim if you drive your jeep arround
I really enjoy your videos thanks keep them coming👍
What was the point of going to full width 1/2 ton axles if your only going to be running 33s? The hp Dana 30 and chrysler 8.25 handle 35s all day long. I thought you got the ford axles because you were going to be running a 37" or larger tire on this new Jeep build???
nice love the videos just wondering would 1 inch stich welds be ok
Thanks for sharing this, looks awesome
I see the rock ring install. but nothing about beadlock like the title suggested.
What does this help with
Surely these will never balance correctly? The ring doesn't perfecly fit / centre in the rim. And the RR logo is gonna cause it to be unbalanced?
Use balance beads
mud collectors death wobble makers . i remember unloading my first set of stock wheels years ago because they would hold mud in the gaps and always made my truck feel like something was wrong . they look good though
Yeah there better used just for rock crawling, they don't seem necessary for other types of offroading.
those look awsome man sweet
Great stuff!
I'm confused by the several comments saying they will slice your tires...how??? These weld onto the wheels where the tire does not touch, how the hell are you guys cutting tires with rock rings lol?
Wont the sharp edge of the rim start cutting into your tire when you air down? also this adds more weight 8~/ im not a big fan but they look cool!
Anthony Mendoza it probably just looks like its sharp.
The edge should be beveled
Very cool man!
What do these things do? I know what a bead lock does and that makes sense and all but I don't see what these would do
They add weight. They help protect your valve stem. They also do a good job of holding lots of mud in the rim. The only think they do not do is lock the tire bead to the tire. HTH
are these tires true to size?
What is the advantages of rock rings
About the only thing these are good for is rigidity. They're mostly for rock crawling. If you do a lot of four wheeling in the mud they'll get packed with mud. When you get back on the road you usually end up with bad vibrations unless you clean out all the mud.
Where to do teach tje part of bedlock???? That is just cosmetic rise
Change the title to "How to do your own Rock Rings" lol not beadlocks
Nice work , and the welding didn't look to hard, seeing that I am not a welder
Next time make all your welds downhill hardwire should always go downhill and you won't have so much undercut.
disculpa usted no puede hacer un juego de rines para Nissan pick up del 96 quiero poner doble rodado en la parte de atrás
Busca Toyota axles
These are not beadlocks, and for the price of those you can buy a set of DIY beadlock kits from TMI
just my opinion
but I'd rather look at a nice welded bead instead of grinding it down and taking away some of the strength of the weld
What is DA?
Dual Action (sander)
I see that the bead locks are only on the outside of the rim, wouldn't the Tyre come off the rim on the back side as it has no bead locks?
Sometimes it will
not gonna lie this looks badass
you want to show me were the acctual "bead lock" is? all i see is a 35 doller piece of mettle welded in your rim, thats no bead lock
Tim, find more shit to do and make more videos. You're the best presenter of the bunch, so keep it up.
I've done a few beadlocks before, and this should definitely be renamed "how to install rockrings/beadlocks yourself". This is not making your own.
Shawn
Thats not a beadlock. Like at all.
Del Emerson You're correct, these are rock rings. The installation to both the rock rings and beadlocks are pretty similar though
They're steel rims, I've put giant wows in mine and beat them straight with a
hammer. These are pointless, extra weight, mud grabbing, hunks of steel. Thought I was going to see beadlocks hence the title.
Aren’t these gonna get smashed on the rocks? Or are you mall crawling? Nice nevertheless though.👏👏
Delete the title and start over or add a part 2 topic now the Beadlocks! Oh and Beadlocks are more useful on both sides of the rim not just Mall Crawler side for looks!
It has to have a sharp edge big time. And this is not a Bead Lock Rim..
but he did , right at the bottum in the title rock rings OR "BEDE LOCKS", look like you got to eat this one , but we wont hold it against ya , thanks
Yeah, cause everybody has a plasma cutter just sitting in their basement
TheBassking15 I think you buy them (the rings) then weld them... it's just showing you how it's done if you do it your self...
I was told there would be beadlocks.
Jerry no you werent...
Low&Slow Works I think most would agree the title gives the impression there would be beadlocks.
You keep saying "sand", but you really mean grind....
ya thats not bead lock i seen your other vid you know this
same concept and installation procedure
Title says beadlocks. Muppet.
One..where's the beadlocks?
Two...that's not making my own rock rings...that's buying the insert and putting them on.
and three (and this is my biggest question)...where do the wheel weights go to balance the tires?...on the back side of the rim?...I've never seen them on the backside.
Grant Davis they go on the back.
I put the wights on the backside on all my aftermarket wheels, cause no none wants to see ugly wights on the outside especially on a colored wheel.
Grant Davis on my jeep I put them on both inside and out but after bending all of my rims n hammering them back in to shape I took off the front weight n got them rebalancing using them only on the inside I don't get any shimming or anything... but iv seen ppl where they just can't make the shimming go away on a perfectly balance wheel...
second comment..send it !!!!!!
Looks like you created more of a problem rather than a solution? That ring flat area is going to catch a hold of rocks now and then put a nice slice the tires when the edge slips past the flat area. Looks very cool, nice job, but the tires will get sliced off-roading for sure. Wider rims that hide the sidewall with these rings would make real world 4x4 functional logic.
the only problem that I see dirt and mud collector it does not do nothing for the performance to me it's just a waste of money
They are rock rings. They are installed to keep rock and stumps and shit from bending up the lip of your rims when you are offroading. They work exactly as they are intended to work. Probably a waste of money to put on your mall crawler or Honda Civic.
VanderVape 😂😂😂
My only issue with the title would be that I didn't learn to make my own anything. I watched a guy put together a pre made product.
first comment, pin it yo!!
Those are not bead locks.
Josh Kasel and you're not a genius
who gives a fuck what the title or what the video contains, that sir is an osha violation. no guard or handle on that grinder.....
Holy crap if one of those comes off and lops someone's head off
