My husband used to drive the Dublin to Letterkenny and back route. He'd do the night trip up and back to Dublin. The buses they use for Letterkenny are old, one went on fire recently, so you can't expect them to be premuim.
Expressway being a ‘premium’ brand of Bus Éireann is pure marketing. They are the same coaches, only difference is that Expressway services are non-PSO. They are purely commercial routes without any subsidies or control from the NTA.
Welcome to ROI, first rule of public transport, never use it for just in time stuff! If you need to be somewhere, time everything as if you will be an hour or two late.
One thousand bugs died making this video! It is lovely to see somebody filming something that might seem mundane. I recently discovered in the attic an old cine film and discovered it had been taken by my parents on their honeymoon when somebody lent them a movie camera and it included some shots of Dublin airport in 1963. It looks like the airport has changed a bit!
I loved when as a child in the 60's my parents brought us to the then little Dublin airport to collect someone. Standing on the outdoor balcony hearing the roar of the planes taking off.. you were right close to them and could see everything.. it was very exciting for kids to see planes as we would hardly know anyone who'd flown anywhere . Everyone we knew got the mailboat from Dun Laoghaire.. living near there we would watch the boat train rattle slowly right into the boat terminal when down by the harbor.. you could buy the fish there directly from the fishing boats just in back then.. and be given a bag of fish scraps for the cat!
Never expected to see Monaghan on your channel when I went onto UA-cam today! The reason why you stopped at the filling station for 10 minutes before the bus station was because the bus station in Monaghan no longer has a shop available for those arriving (so I believe). Great video Scott, was exciting seeing the sights I'm used to, feature on your channel.
OK, so I am going to do this trip at some point this year. Thank you so, so much. I am on a budget so I am always on the lookout for travel that allows you to see a lot without spending a fortune. This is perfect! Coaches always suit me as I am not the biggest guy (5'3") and always have lots of room!
Thank you for the beautiful video. I so enjoyed Letterkenny to Dublin. I have been away from Ireland for many, many years and I was shocked to see that beautiful double decker bus on that trip. Until you got to the Motorway, it must have been pretty scary sitting up top. I was also quite surprised to see so many passengers. Happy travels ☘️
The seats on the first coach seemed pretty decent, not so much on the second one, looked as dirty as the windows :D I do like that Bus Éireann logo though :) Great video as always mate!
yeah, wasn't the driver cleaning the windscreen just a few moments ago? Probably was just cleaning his own, not the window on the second deck... Or it was that fertiliser :p I agree the logo is lovely, but like the normal livery more than this Expressway livery.
Great video! To answer your question, Translink NI offer a direct service a few times a day between Derry and Dublin Airport on route X4, however this does take roughly 3 and a half hours.
There's nothing direct about it, takes you on a bloody guided tour from Derry to Belfast to Dublin.. 4 hours, bad enough 3 hours on a 32 or a Translink X service
The 32 usually breaks at a Circle K North Of Monaghan for the driver 15 minute break. Also for the passengers to stretch there feet. that is what that was 😊
That a challenge to Scott? Don't suggest trips like that. He'll take them up... if only to prove his skills in adversity. 😂 If you require proof just watch his Paisley to Aberdeen By local buses 😉. He's a Class act.
Oh, the first bus was a number 64. Used to have use that a lot and the drivers were… never great. The petrol station at Monaghan has been a thing since just before Covid, I’m assuming it’s for supplies. I’m guessing the overpriced shop at Monaghan Bus Station shut.
I took that bus before from Galway to derry I fell asleep for all of it lol good to see this video I am bed watching some good videos till I seen this fantastic video
Hello Scott, I thank you for your video. It reminded me of 1990 when I cycled from Larne via Omagh to Belmullet and back. It never occurred to me that I may have been able to take coaches. What can I say? It was an adventure well worth remembering, if just for the "beautiful coleen" that I admired in Enniscrone. Wow, she was a beauty. But, time and tide stands for no-one and I had a ferry to catch. (I know, "What a fool"!) The scenery in your video was lovely and I enjoyed the views of your adventure too. Be well!
I just been looking at driving from Lisburn to Belmullet in August. I'll be tired driving that, but a bike!!! Naaa, wouldn't make it to outskirts of Lisburn 😂
I must admit Scott i've never been to Ireland but theres some very pretty places you passed through. I enjoy your journeys so well done keep it up ....oh by the way was you going anywhere interesting on the plane ?
Ah, you should visit (and fáilte). BUT remember what Bill Bailey (awesome) said at one of his gigs here (Dublin) - "Ireland, where euros magically disappear". Yep, 'tis pricey!
Decades ago I used get a return bus from Dublin to Ballina in Mayo.. it would stop in Longford for a 10 minutes for toilet and tea break! One occasion returning to Dublin... The bus moved position and I got on the wrong bus. I only realised when all the returned passengers around me had changed and asked one of them.. the bus had come from some other place than Ballina but fortunately it was also going to Dublin.. and the driver radio'd my original bus to take out my baggage for me from the hold when he got to the Dublin terminal...
Nice video Scott and good to see the bus alternative to this. I got the train between Derry and Dublin changing at Belfast but may get the bus should I visit again
Greetings from Dublin, Scott - welcome (back) to Dublin and eh, see you again? Hope so. Being a Dub, naturally I have (residual) brand loyalty for both Aer Lingus and Bus Éireann, so I reckon whereas they might (indeed do) appear stolid and boring to folks who have experienced better/plusher etc., what I say is - "They'll both get you there and back, in relative comfort, safely". That's enough for me. Great channel - happy travels, Bro (sometimes the journey becomes/is an integral part of the trip - I LOVE flying in particular). Dave.
Btw that bus station in Derry had the best Irish Stew I have ever eaten. But that was back in 2002-04. I am not sure if they still serve Irish Stew and if the standards are still that high. I should visit the Donegal again and do the west coast proper. Great video as per always. Great inspirations for my own travels.
In our family, when a queue is moving slowly because every person seems to be having a conversation with the conductor/ticket sales person/check out operator/etc. we refer to it as "people getting counselling".
I love that polestar sculpture in Letterkenny and it is a million miles better than all the rusty sculptures that we see in Ireland these days. I worked for 42 years in the paint industry and there's nothing I hate more than rust.
The only thing premium about Expressway is the prices! And totally agree with you about how long it seems to take some people to get on a bus. I use Bus Eireann a lot and I can never understand why it takes some people literally 10 minutes to get their ticket scanned or pay for it.
Whoops - i neglected to give an extra shoutout for using the fada over the initial E in Éireann. Perspicacity - it's FAAAANTASTIC! Iomlán thar barr, dar liomsa.
Typical Ireland, always a tractor holding up the roads as usual (whether its the North or the South). Great video. Keep up the great work. Enjoy seeing the different types of public transport services.
4:20 Just had a thought - remember when James Bond films were actually GOOD? 'Live and Let Die' remains my favourite - in particular that bit where Roger Moore commandeers the double-decker, resulting in the bus v bridge scene. WHAT IF - in the next GOOD Bond flick, 007 commandeers such a fertiliser spreader? Not quite as cool as the Aston Martin DB5 after Q has added his bits but still, some potential here in terms of getting rid of the pursuing goons? Just a thought.
The public transport in Donegal is an absolute joke and a third rate service. Constant cancellations and delays, broken down busses, sometimes unclean interiors. With no rail service or decent motorway/dual carriageway to Dublin, the only option is the bus. It is an afterthought service given by Bus Eireann who couldn't care less for the traveling public in Donegal.
@@TheEpicAppleEater01 Granted and see your point, with the pot hold situation better than it used to be, but with about 3km of dual carriageway in the whole county and still waiting for the A5 in the north to be upgraded, Donegal and the rest of the north west gets left out of the loop when it comes to motorway building.
There's nothing wrong with the roads in the North, it's more to do with the clowns that are using them, i assume that most of them got their driving licence out of a lucky bag , and if the road services built freeways, they'll still be clowns 👎
Pro tip, you can go through security in T2 and walk to T1.. very handy if it's pissing rain outside. It's also less crowded in T2 security.
My husband used to drive the Dublin to Letterkenny and back route. He'd do the night trip up and back to Dublin. The buses they use for Letterkenny are old, one went on fire recently, so you can't expect them to be premuim.

It's not to bad when it comes to private bus companies, but bus eireann is atrocious.
expressway is a premium service provided by Bus Éireann or translated as Irish bus in English .
10/10 name 😂😂😂😂
And I can now ride them for free!🎉 👏
Less so premium more so private (it's not supported by public funds)

As a resident of NI I’m always pleased to see you doing videos either in NI or ROI. Looks like you had an interesting journey. Thanks Scott.

Looks like the Bus Driver knicked 20 minutes off this video!
There actually is a direct service operated from Derry to Dublin Airport, the 705X operated by Aircoach. It operates every 2 hours
There's nothing direct about it, takes you on a bloody guided tour from Derry to Belfast to Dublin.. 4 hours, bad enough 3 hours on a 32 or a Translink X service
Ah cool seeing you started a vid in Derry! :)
Great video Scott.
Nice little video Scott. It was very diplomatic referring to that as a fertiliser spreader. 😅
I understand how sitting in the upper left corner of the bus is unnerving 4:38 . 🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🍃🍃🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌳
I used to get this bus as i had a friend from limavady
No legroom review? Please do the legroom shots on every coach service you use?
The 32 usually breaks at a Circle K North Of Monaghan for the driver 15 minute break. Also for the passengers to stretch there feet. that is what that was 😊
Cleanest window I’ve ever seen on your videos eh? You
Should try and go from leterkenny to Cork on a bus hurrendous journey

Sunny day in Londonderry

Very nice coach. I’ve been coaches with very nice livery, comfortable seats and better leg room.

Ah yes - cycling around Ireland, overnighting in various An Óige hostels - GREAT! Happy daze.
I just been looking at driving from Lisburn to Belmullet in August.
I'll be tired driving that, but a bike!!! Naaa, wouldn't make it to outskirts of Lisburn 😂
Yes, I loved cycling cross country when Ireland had less traffic... I imagine it could be quite dangerous today.
They make those insects in Ireland tough and strong. LOL. We enjoyed the journey as always.
I wonder were they Catholic bugs or Protestant bugs?
I must admit Scott i've never been to Ireland but theres some very pretty places you passed through. I enjoy your journeys so well done keep it up ....oh by the way was you going anywhere interesting on the plane ?

Welcome to Ireland tho I hope you enjoyed it the bus services are different over here between express bus, the green bus and bus Eireann 🔥

Pre traffic light Letterkenny

Let the dance begin sculpture to us Strabane natives is called the Tinnies 😂
Nice video Scott and good to see the bus alternative to this. I got the train between Derry and Dublin changing at Belfast but may get the bus should I visit again
Dublin to Galway with this company is a good service
You should try the same journey on John McGinley Coaches
Does the road look different?

I was the driver, Scott. The problem was my piles.
Looks like you scored a fair bit of that fertiliser on the bus windscreen! 😂
Btw that bus station in Derry had the best Irish Stew I have ever eaten. But that was back in 2002-04. I am not sure if they still serve Irish Stew and if the standards are still that high. The Ukrainians were going to Ukraine on holiday! Figure that one out!
The stop in Monaghan was for toilets and refreshments btw.
The mess on the windows seemed to only appear very visibly after the slurry spreader was in front!
I now know why he cleaned the windows 😂
That was Interesting. Thank you Scott
The best thing in Omagh town are the roads out of it 👍
Amen
I like your videos, Scott. Thanks for sharing
Derry to DUBLIN via the airport by TRANSLINK

Love the videos
Glad to see a true rangers fan use the phrase Londonderry👍
You could have got the X3 or X4 from Derry to Dublin

I agree. You'd swear they've never taken a bus before.
Try being the driver. It doesn't help when people use €50 to pay for a €20 something odd trip.
Great weather in Derry..(my home town)..You missed a great opportunity to walk the very special Peace bridge...Ah well the next time maby.Good luck
He’s, already crossed the Peace Bridge in a previous video from Glasgow to Dungloe with Doherty’s coaches

Hi Scott wow that’s a lot of miles you covered by bus .Did you fly back to Glasgow from Dublin?
Good video, but bus arriving 20 minutes late that’s not good😂
I was thinking them windows are dirty, after seeing him wash them
