Alaska is a special place. I worked on the Aniak River many years ago for a summer. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I got paid to do it.
@@WAFishQuest I wish I was still 20, I would try to do it again. At 42 I might be a little old to last all summer. Hopefully some day I can make it back up there for a fishing trip.
Finally got to sit and watch the whole video. You may have just planted a seed. I still need to check a halibut and sockeye off my catch list. Great video keep it up.
The wife and I are up on Camano Island. If your interested in a more local getaway the Skagit is predicting an excellent pink year with outstanding Dungeness in the delta. No halibut or rockfish but we do have flounder and greenling. Bring the whole family, its a big house and you dont have to jettison your clothes at the end of the trip.
One thing that I've heard is to take Dramamine the day before and then patch/Dramamine the day of. Getting it flowing in your system well ahead of time is supposed to really kick seasickness.
I really enjoyed all the detailed information about costs and logistics. Some especially skillful storytelling too. Those brands that we're both against are going to come-a-calling to get you to sell for 'em sooner or later. Might give some thought to a graceful compromise so you can go fishing in Alaska every third year? A greater good might be served by their money in other ways too- family. My 2 cents
Good informative video, nothing wrong with the footage you got. Your info was clearly presented and I am sure many a fisher will benefit from this. Looked like a great trip. Never really heard the terms "Flossing" or "Combat Fishing" before. Mike
Flossing is basically when you hook a fish in the mouth, but it didn't take the hook intentionally. You just ran your like through it's open maw. Where legal, it's ethics put angles into two camps. I usually don't do it- I wouldn't call it recreation angling- but that was the fishery and I wanted the fish. And it was a lot of fun!
Thanks for the tips. My plan is to execute a trip in 2026. BTW, not only did I get to see a moose in 1987 when traveling in Maine, I accidently hit the darn thing as it decided to cross the road while I was traveling back to the airport from Presque Isle Maine. Unfortunately, the roads were snowed packed and the moose was only trying to get to the other side but at the wrong time. I ended up broadsiding the beast and broke two legs, the Ford Taurus rental was totaled and thank God a logging trucker came by about ten minutes after the accident and radioed for help. A local Law Enforcement person came out and put the beast out of her misery which was a bit disturbing, but not half as bad as the constant wailing that this moose was screaming until that point. Found out that the moose meat did not go to waste however, as a packer/butcher would process the meat, keep the best cuts for his family and send the rest to homeless shelters in Bangor and other areas.
Thanks Blake! Ketchikan / Thorne Bay is my current Alaska plan.
Awesome-- best of luck on your adventure!

Thanks Mark! Really appreciate the advice! Luckily I'm also happy fishing near my house... Granted the catching is about 1/100th as good!

Cool. I liked your video. Very interesting.
thanks as always Toni!!
I lived in Alaska (Ketchikan, Kodiak, Juneau and lastly Wasilla) over a span of 25 years. I miss everything except the shoveling snow part.....
That's kind of sad! Thanks. At least you got to live there I suppose!
Looks ton of fun
Thanks Bashi! It was!
Boom! Another video.
Thanks Brian! Look forward to meeting up in December.
@@WAFishQuest that would be great!
I love how small your carry-on bag is 👍
Thanks a ton! I tend to pack light. Even when not going to Alaska I usually don't check a bag.
We are heading up to salmon falls in ketchikan in August it is amazing up there.
Salmon Falls eh? Thanks for the tip!

Great video but what do you mean “pay with a check???” 😂😂😂 is that a new crypto currency?
It's come back around-- checks for everything! Does make sense though. I think it's a 3% fee for using cards. So checks, cash, or Doge it is!
