  • Colorado Governor Jared Polis is more pro-freedom than many politicians. But I have problems with some things Polis believes.

    ----
    Colorado Governor Jared Polis is a rare Democrat who talks about economic freedom and individual liberty.
    But he’s no libertarian.
    He wants to force businesses to provide services for gay weddings.
    He signed universal pre-k. Colorado lags in school choice.
    Polis is also unusual because most Democrats won’t debate ideas with me. He will.
    This is our full interview.

      Anti-gun people are not really anti-gun. The anti-gun crowd just does not want anyone they presume to be Conservatives, right wing, veterans, those in the "Basket of Deplorables" etc., to possess firearms. The anti-2A politicians always have layers of people with guns surrounding them. Anti-2A politicians really know very little about firearms, but very much like guns as long as they can control the people who carry them.

      We have a dear single lady friend who lives in Monument. She says the same thing you have.
      She left California almost two decades ago and is looking to leave Colorado now because of the mess the state has become. She is a very kind and thoughtful landlord, which is her sole means of support (we are also landlords, and we were "talking shop"). She told me that she can no longer run a criminal background check on tenants as of Sept 1, 2023; she is very nervous and understandably so. She reminded me that the one time she had given a chance to someone who had a long ago felony, against her gut, the tenant stopped paying rent halfway into his tenancy (years before Covid), and she had to go to court have he and his wife evicted. He responded by threatening her bodily (she had to learn to use a firearm for protection), and before he was evicted, he filled her rental home's sewer lines with concrete! She had to re-pipe the entire home to mitigate the damages, costing her thousands and thousands of dollars and with no money coming in. Now, she can't even protect herself from those threats to her income (thereby removing a home from the rental market and driving up rents.)
      She said the legalization of drugs has brought in the junkies of society who are living on the streets and that the smell of Marijuana is so unbelievably strong that she worries for children breathing that stuff .
      It sounds so horrid. It's so sad; it was such a beautiful state.

      @chioxin 9 місяців тому +1

      @@dennytuma The purpose of the tariffs is to keep jobs within the US. So you can't go to China or Mexico and have your shoes made for 10 dollars and sell them in the US for 50. It increases that 10 dollars to match closer to what it would take to make it in the US. He's right in that it means a company over here will then raise the price of their shoe to 80 dollars. But, then at least we'll have jobs here in the US for people to do, jobs that should pay better than minimum wage, which are needed.
      His opinion on a labor shortage though isn't honest. He's right, there are plenty of immigrant workers willing to work.... and there are plenty of US citizens capable of working but won't because they can get by on a number of social programs that keeps them afloat. If these people do work, they lose their social program benefits and don't really understand why it's better to work and progress than it is to just stay on a social program. This isn't just a Polis problem though, this is a country wide problem, and it's a drain on our economy. You work hard, to pay taxes, they get.

    He ducked the question about whether government run schools demonstrate accountability (around the 5 minute mark.) And the argument that if you serve any part of the public, you must serve all of the public... that is a violation of freedom of association. Businesses which have bigoted customer choice practices are unlikely to compete well against those that are more open, and if that turns out not to be the case in all instances, so be it. And the BIDEN administration said NO to TikTok too. And the reason GOP folks are working to ban TikTok has zero to do with suppressing speech and everything to do with this being a CHINESE company that uses the app to gather data and have a foreign influence over the USA. There is a reason that China does not allow the same sort of TikTok to run inside of China. Sure, equity does mean what he notes, but he is being dishonest when he acts as if it doesn't have a much different meaning when it comes to government and business since we have been in the 21st century. I am appreciative that he did this interview with John.
