Oh nice, same whistle as it is used by RhB in Switzerland.

I find it unusual that they ordered locomotives to push three cars. I figured they would order 4-car DMUs which each car having a diesel engine. The addition of the air whistle is also unusual.

Stadler knows best when it comes to cog rail locomotives, and this is what they came up with. The air whistle is very common for their usual clients, but it is unusual here in the states. A welcome addition though

Stadler DMUs tend to have the Diesel engine in a separate short car, often called a "power pack", typically with a path through the middle accessible to passengers. I'm guessing that this is to reduce noise and vibrations in the passenger cars. It is probably for this same reason that Stadler just went with a locomotive-based design instead here.
